Book excerpt: Fate: A New Beginning is a revision of an original work titled Fate: The Beginning. The original work lacked appealing cover artwork, a catching opening and most importantly, professional editing. These issues have been corrected but the basic story remains the same. As the title suggest, A New Beginning is exactly what happens to Eric Miller and Dr. Erica Myers. Born in a society that did not tolerate interracial relationships, fate preserved their love for each other until a day they could begin anew. After decades of separation, Dr. Erica Myers recognizes Eric Miller almost immediately though it takes Eric Miller somewhat longer to identify her. This story is set in the midst of an inaugural journey to the edge of the galaxy where Eric Miller and Dr. Erica Myers struggle to make a decision that could either destroy or preserve our planet. Before they can embrace their feelings they must overcome personal battles; Dr. Erica Myers issues with her parents and Eric Millers issues with his faith. And if this was not enough, they must battle a formidable enemy determined to gain control of their work. As a deacon in the church, Eric Millers desire is to spread Gods word. He is unaware that a seed he has planted was watered and is taking root. Unfortunately Eric Millers beliefs cause Dr. Myers to question whether he really loves her. In the end, will their love for each other outweigh their personal beliefs? Will Eric Miller get an opportunity to witness the flower sprouted from his seed? Youre sure to enjoy this delightful and intriguing story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natives, Aborigines, Indigenous populations, and First Nations are all appellations that assert the legitimacy of various antecessors despite the subordinate position granted to them by colonial, postcolonial and neo-colonial theories. In a perpetual quest for agency, the native has been framed within a set of representational practices that claim for a redress of grievances. Cultural, mediatized and historical representations of the native tend to fall within the boundaries of either a bottom-up or a top-down view that fits within a structuralist paradigm that rarely questions the individual, let alone the marginalized. However, there is a need to examine the systems within which indigenous narratives operate from a post-structuralist stance in order to re-read indigenous discourses and to celebrate the multiplicity of meanings inherent in them. The need for an intercultural pragmatic reading of native discourse therefore reveals itself to be of utmost relevance. This volume discusses indigenous literary performances, native history and cultural representations of natives and aboriginal discourse from around the world. Topics pivot around historicizing the native, the role of testimony and primary sources, displacement and the denial of native legitimacy, and literary (mis)representations of natives, among other themes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salman Rushdie's writing is engaged with translation in many ways: translator-figures tell and retell stories in his novels, while acts of translation are catalysts for climactic events. Covering his major novels as well as his often-neglected short stories and writing for children, Salman Rushdie and Translation explores the role of translation in Rushdie's work. In this book, Jenni Ramone draws on contemporary translation theory to analyse the part translation plays in Rushdie's appropriation of historical and contemporary Indian narratives of independence and migration.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compilation of short stories is a collection of narratives that take the characters and reader on a journey beyond and between the veils of reality. They are meant to be - each and individually - either philosophical, deep, touching, thrilling, and heartwarming, or any random combination of those descriptions, and more, all at once. The intention of this book is to expand upon the two previously published books of poetry, Mr. Swan's Poems and After The Flight, to take the reader onto a journey into deeper rabbit holes and on longer and more drawn out rides that the short story format allows for. All of these short stories are original works. The date of the final draft of this compiled, completed work was Saturday, June 20, 2015.

When Veil Kendry dreams, he possesses a clarity normal people never experience, along with the power of volition, which allows him to enter the minds of others. Veil’s strange gift was invaluable as an operative for the CIA, but now he’s left that life behind and instead channels his unusual ability into art. When needed, though, he still applies his supernatural and clandestine skills to helping those in trouble. So when Veil crosses paths with a thief who stole a K’ung tribe religious idol from the same midtown art gallery that exhibits his dream-paintings, he’s compelled to get involved—despite threats from a corrupt cop named Carl Nagle. Using his dream powers, Veil attempts to enter the mind of the thief in order to apprehend him. But there are others on the hunt, desperate to possess the artifact— and soon, Veil will find himself fighting just to stay alive. Jungle of Steel and Stone is the 2nd book in the Veil KendrySuspense Novels, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You'd think they'd hand out maps or life strategy plans, wouldn't you? No one I ever knew had a map or even a guidebook for life. No three-point outlines. No "Sit down here and let me tell you how this works" kind of advice either. So how was I to know? I just jumped right in, like I did with everything else in my life. Didn't question how or why...just did it! That had always been my way of doin' things from the start. "Just do it." Even before the Nike commercials. Did ya ever wonder why our federal or state court systems don't make you take a marriage test or a kid-raisin' test? Seems to me like that's way more important to the welfare and safety of our society than drivin' a Lexus or a Dodge Ram TufTruck. You have to go the courthouse in any state in America to get a marriage license, but anyone can have a baby and keep it to raise without any kind of previous experience or license. Like I said, no how-to manual. So how does anybody know how to keep a marriage going for a lifetime or raise one, two, three, or more little helpless babies into grown adults fit to govern, heal, lead, and protect our society? Well, I didn't have a manual. No license. No mentor. I just jumped right in with my heart and soul and did the best I could bein' young as I was and all. I was hardly grown myself. Certainly in no way wise to the world or rich enough to get education past high school. At seventeen, I graduated from a little country school with thirty-one kids like me who thought they knew more than they actually did. A few years later, we learned that we really didn't know much at all. Fresh and new at life and ready to jump right in and start livin' it on my own, I was ready!
