Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flash Gordon was originally a comic strip by Alex Raymond[?], first published in 1934. It was made into a movie serial in 1936, and followed by sequels and a television series. The 1980 film is remembered mainly for its music, which was provided by Queen. The comics and movies followed the adventures of Flash Gordon, for whom the series was named, and his companions Dr. Hans Zarkov[?] and Dale Arden[?]. The story begins with Dr. Zarkov's invention of a rocket ship, in which the three of them make a journey to the planet Mongo[?] where they are stranded. Mongo is inhabited by a number of different cultures, some quite technologically advanced, that have been falling one by one under the domination of the vicious tyrant Ming the Merciless[?]. The three Earthpeople are befriended shortly after their arrival by Prince Barin, rightful heir to the throne that Ming has taken. Ming banishes Prince Barin and his followers - including Ming's own daughter, Aura, Barin's bride - to the forest realm of Arboria, and the three join in Barin's quest to topple Ming.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'My loves, what are we to do? We don't do as they want any more, and they hate it. What are we to do?' Four determinedly 'liberated' – and very different – women ricochet around a tiny shared flat, while trying to pull together the shattered strands of their lives: Dusa is struggling to regain her children from their father, Fish is losing her lover to another woman, Stas is on the game to finance the course she wants to study at university, while Vi steadfastly refuses to eat.... A bitingly sardonic modern classic, widely regarded as an historic icon of early feminism, Dusa, Fish, Stas and Vi was first seen at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1976 under the title Dead Fish, Michael Codron transferred the play to the West End under its new title where it enjoyed a huge success and established Pam Gems as a major new voice in British theatre.

Book Synopsis Ceremonies in Dark Old Men by : Lonne Elder, III
Download or read book Ceremonies in Dark Old Men written by Lonne Elder, III and published by Hill and Wang. This book was released on 1969 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ceremonies in Dark Old Men, a classic of American theater, is the poignant story of a family in 1950s Harlem. In timeless prose, Lonne Elder explores the discontent of a generation that has grown old before its time, and the determination of the next generation to avoid such a fate. In the play, Russel B. Parker is a prodigal father and failed barber who exists on memories and "ceremonies" for survival. He spends his time recounting atmospheric tales of his life in vaudeville and tells, in darkly comic detail, about his days on the chain gang. Just beneath the surface of Elder's work lie the terrors of day-to-day life in a racist society--never directly mentioned, but always simmering unforgettably. Ceremonies in Dark Old Men had its debut Off-Broadway in 1969. It received enthusiastic reviews and moved into an extended run. Since its first performance, the play has been produced numerous times both on television and on the stage, with the leads being played by an honor roll of actors, including Laurence Fishburne, Denzel Washington, and Billy Dee Williams.
