His girlfriend, twenty-two-year-old Brett Allen, is found at the scene of the crime. She claims she is innocent—even though she's dripping in blood, the murder weapon covered with her fingerprints. Enter attorney Caroline Masters, Brett's estranged aunt. She's been summoned back to her affluent New England hometown to help Brett out of this mess...and revisit the troubled family she left behind. Caroline learned a long time ago that the ties that bind can also be broken. Now that she's back home, she can't help but doubt her family's motives—and Brett's innocence. As the trial heats up, Caroline finds herself up against those who would kill to keep dark secrets hidden...and the state prosecutor, who happens to be her former lover and will do anything to expose the truth. Now, with her family's fate—and her own reputation—hanging in the balance, Caroline must assume the role of a lifetime as she fights to save her niece. Or destroy them both... "Compelling...very possibly Patterson's best." -USA Today
Book Synopsis Four Views on the Role of Works at the Final Judgment by : Robert N. Wilkin
Download or read book Four Views on the Role of Works at the Final Judgment written by Robert N. Wilkin and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a discussion of Biblical texts, this book presents four perspectives on the role of works at the final judgment. The final judgment is the last and final act before God dwells with his people forever. Scripture makes that clear, but what function do our actions play in the final assessment of our souls--especially those of professing Christians? The contributors each state their case for one of four prominent views on the effect of works at the end of time: Robert N. Wilkin: Works will determine rewards but not salvation Thomas R. Schreiner: Works will provide evidence that one actually has been saved James D. G. Dunn: Works will provide the criterion by which Christ will determine eternal destiny of his people Michael P. Barber: Works will merit eternal life This book allows each contributor to not only present the case for his view, but also to critique and respond to the critiques of the other contributors, allowing you to compare their beliefs in an open forum setting to see where they overlap and where they differ. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

Book Synopsis Revival by : William Sims Bainbridge
Download or read book Revival written by William Sims Bainbridge and published by Feral House. This book was released on 2017-04-24 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is seeking to destroy all esoteric religious movements, starting with The Process Church of the Final Judgement? The Process was the most fascinating innovative cult of the 1960s, then vanished for four decades before being virtually reborn by the use of information technology. Revival seems to be fiction, yet it’s based on fact and explores the implications of the internet, and the disintegration of conventional faiths. As reported in the author’s anthropological study, Satan’s Power, the Process was polytheistic, asserting the union of Jehovah with Lucifer, and the unity of Christ with Satan. Each Process member was a fragment of a god, with a corresponding personality trait: Jehovah = Discipline, Lucifer = Liberation, Christ = Unification, Satan = Separation. Before the first page of this book, the computer magician who resurrected the Process Church was murdered. Was this man Christ? Christianity may be the opposite of what it seems, a Satanic plot that subconsciously preaches, “Release the fiend that lies dormant within you, for he is strong and ruthless, and his power is far beyond the bounds of human frailty. Come forth in your savage might, rampant with the lust of battle, tense and quivering with the urge to strike, to smash, to split asunder all that seek to detain you.” Can the surviving Processeans achieve the hopes expressed in their blessing: “May the life-giving water of the Lord Christ and the purifying fire of the Lord Satan bring the presence of love and unity into this assembly”?
Book Synopsis Final Judgement and the Dead in Medieval Jewish Thought by : Susan Weissman
Download or read book Final Judgement and the Dead in Medieval Jewish Thought written by Susan Weissman and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-23 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a detailed analysis of ghost tales in the Ashkenazi pietistic work Sefer ḥasidim, Susan Weissman documents a major transformation in Jewish attitudes and practices regarding the dead and the afterlife that took place between the rabbinic period and medieval times. She reveals that a huge influx of Germano-Christian beliefs, customs, and fears relating to the dead and the afterlife seeped into medieval Ashkenazi society among both elite and popular groups. In matters of sin, penance, and posthumous punishment, the infiltration of Christian notions was so strong as to effect a radical departure in Pietist thinking from rabbinic thought and to spur outright contradiction of talmudic principles regarding the realm of the hereafter. Although it is primarily a study of the culture of a medieval Jewish enclave, this book demonstrates how seminal beliefs of medieval Christendom and monastic ideals could take root in a society with contrary religious values—even in the realm of doctrinal belief.

Book excerpt: In 1944, Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, knowing that high-ranking members of the military had falsely testified before the various bodies investigating the attack on Pearl Harbor, selected a then-unknown major by the name of Henry C. Clausen to undertake a new investigation. From November 1944 to September 1945, Clausen traveled more than 55,000 miles and interviewed over a hundred U.S. and British Army, Navy, and civilian personnel. He was given the authority to go anywhere and question anyone under oath, from enlisted personnel right up to George C. Marshall, the chief of staff. He ultimately presented an 800 page report to Stimson—a report that revealed a massive operational failure by the United States to use the priceless intelligence signals that it had obtained months before Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor is the "final judgement"-the story behind Clausen's investigation and a blistering account of his conclusions.

Download or read book Revelation written by Greg Laurie and published by . This book was released on 2020-04-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What on Earth will Happen? When God predicts the future, He isn t taking a risk or going out on a limb. He knows that future already. With Him, it s already an established fact. He doesn t just forecast the future, He has been there. In fact, He s there right now, just as surely as He is with us in the present moment. The Book of Revelation allows us to glimpse realities that are outside of time, in the eternal realm. It reminds us that our God lives in that eternal reality, and isn t bound by the pages in a calendar, the hours in a day, or the hands on a clock. He has no yesterday or tomorrow, because it s all just a continuum to Him. God can look at the future with as much clarity and accuracy as you and I might look at the recent past. God has perfect recollection and perfect foresight. When He says that a certain event will happen, it s as though it has already taken place. From our point of view, time seems to stretch on and on, but God isn t affected at all by the duration of time. As Peter noted, A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day (2 Peter 3:8, NLT). Greg Laurie In this exciting, comprehensive overview of the New Testament s final book, Greg Laurie shares insights drawn from a lifelong study of Bible prophecy and how it intersects with today s headlines
