Only one thing could save him: the mythical Skudra, a beast said to grant three wishes to anyone lucky enough to summon it. But even the best have failed to find it. Will Monty succeed and survive with the help of Morflung, his eccentric wizard friend, Mikhali, his sphinx sweetheart, Yarna, a hard-core female warrior, Onslaught, a magical, musical, half-minotaur, Sombra, his shadow-cat, and Tora, the tigress? Book excerpt: Why would any educated scientist with a PhD advocate a literal interpretation of the six days of creation? Why, indeed, when only one in three Americans believes "the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word" according to a recent Gallup poll. Science can neither prove nor disprove evolution any more than it can creation. Certainly there are no human eyewitness accounts of either. However, certain factors are present today which are capable of swaying one's beliefs one way or the other. In this book are the testimonies of fifty men and women holding doctorates in a wide range of scientific fields who have been convicted by the evidence to believe in a literal six-day creation. For example, meet: The geneticist who concludes that there must have been 150 billion forerunners of "modern man" in order for the natural selection required by evolution to have taken place in the development of man. The evidence for such vast numbers of "prehistoric man" is in dire shortage. The orthodontist who discovered that European museum fossils of ancient man have been tampered with to adhere to evolution theories. The geologist who studied under the late Stephen Jay Gould and literally cut the Bible to pieces before totally rejecting evolution. All fifty of these scientists, through faith and scientific fact, have come to the conclusion that God's Word is true and everything had its origin not so very long ago, in the beginning, In Six Days.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1965, a series of historic marches took place on the fifty-four-mile highway stretching from Selma, Alabama to the state capital of Montgomery. Nonviolent activists and demonstrators rallied together to protest the racial injustices that prevented the African American community from exercising their constitutional right to vote. This compelling edition describes the demonstrations that took place in Selma and the violence that met the protesters in their attempt to march to the state capitol building in Montgomery. The book also explores the reforms that occurred as a result of the protests, as well as the impact of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Through studying history we come to understand how things change, learn to grasp the factors that cause this change, and begin to understand what parts of society remain constant despite change. Each title in Perspectives On investigates an historical event and includes, with the help of primary sources such as eyewitness accounts and commentary, differing viewpoints of each event. Factors leading up to the event, and the event's effect on the culture and people at that time, will be explored, as well as the event's lasting effects and historical significance.

Book excerpt: Sacred Places is a book that looks at the biblical theology of place, exploring its central importance in Gods creation and mission. It takes its readers on an expository journey through place, from the Garden of Eden to the New Jerusalem, discovering the pattern of placement, displacement, and replacement in life and faith. If you are a Christian seeking to understand the Bibles teaching on place and how that affects both our faith and lives in the world, then this book is for you. It will open your eyes to the central importance of place and give you direction on how you can apply a healthy understanding of place to your life as a disciple of Jesus Christ, making you a better place maker and dweller. The thesis of this book is that place is far more important than we ever could have imagined. I am specifically proposing that (1) places are sacred because of Gods decree and personal presence, (2) place plays a major role in Gods creative and redemptive purposes, and (3) Gods people are called to be both place makers and dwellers. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Miseducating Americans, Richard F. Hamilton examines accounts of American history appearing in textbooks and popular accounts and compares these with the reports contained in scholarly monographs. The task: to determine how certain myths and misconstructions became accepted as recorded history. Hamilton provides much needed correction of those misleading accounts. Was America historically the “land of the free?” Not if you take into account slavery, discrimination, and post-Civil War segregation policies. Was America in the late nineteenth century truly expansionist, as American textbooks imply, or did it actually capitalize on unexpected political and economic opportunities, like Russia’s desire to rid itself of Alaska? Was the acquisition of the Philippines a zealous profit-seeking effort aiming for “the China market,” or the fortuitous consequences of a move against Spain during the Spanish-American War? Miseducating Americans debunks many commonly accepted explanations of historical facts. It contends that many accounts are oversimplifications, and some are one-sided depictions of virtue. Hamilton traces the sources of these misconstructions, which mostly come from history textbooks written by authors aiming for “popular audiences.” He then offers explanations as to how and why the inaccuracies have been repeated and passed on.
