Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author, Duncan Ferguson, draws upon his years as chaplain and professor in university settings, where seeking answers to hard and perplexing questions are the order of the day. One that continually surfaces is whether there is any evidence of divine transcendence in the natural world, in history, or in the human experience. Is there a God who might provide universal values, guidance to those seeking solutions to the overwhelming problems we face, and a measure of inner peace for troubled souls? This question is considered one of the most difficult to answer in a definitive way, and in a university setting, it is often answered by a clear no or simple neglect in that the question is not generally viewed as within the domain of the goals of the university. Dr. Ferguson believes that it is, and that it should be explored by our best minds in our universities and indeed the best minds in the world, by those with game-changing power, and by committed and compassionate seekers. It is especially not the exclusive domain of cultic preachers. He explores what might be interpreted as evidence of a divine Transcendence, looking within the natural world, human history, the history of religious thought in the great religions, and the need for divine guidance as the human family faces the critical crisis of the survival of planet Earth. Universal values, compassion, justice, and peace, often rooted in the great religious traditions, should guide us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no deeper, more intense human longing than to know God is real and to see Him face to face.Ó In some circles, having a personal relationship with GodÓ is synonymous with being a Christian. We are told, in fact, that we 'must' have such a relationship if we are truly God's children. But if we are honest, says Tim Stafford, we must admit that often there is a considerable gap between our talk and our experience. We want to know God. The problem is that we don't know how to know Him. How do we know God personally?Ó After examining the traditional answers and finding their shortcomings for himself, Stafford began his own search for the means to knowing, personally, a personal God. 'Knowing the Face of God' is the moving record of his quest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gazing upon the face of God is our only source for ultimate Truth. God did not just give us a bunch of rules to follow; He gave us His very nature. All of creation, including mankind, is a direct attribute of God Himself so it only makes sense that in order to understand anything we must look upon His face to determine Truth. The world today is slipping towards a world order that defines Truth by popular demand and a majority of vote. The screaming minorities become the majorities. Without God as the ultimate Truth then there is no source other than the will and laws of man; and who is to say they are wrong or right but the majority. Christianity has become a natural acceptance of belief that is acknowledged, but hardly lived! Reality as the world knows it has conformed completely to the natural laws of the physical senses. The nature of God is hardly recognized as our source of reality. Naturalism has become man’s god and Spiritualism has become simply--the reference of historical events back in bible times. It is time we, as Christians, accept our role as outsiders to this world and take on the Nature of God in ushering in the Kingdom of Heaven upon earth!

Years ago I would have said, 'No.' Countless hymns, passage of Scripture and confessions of faith assert or imply the changelessness of God. To take issue with traditions that are centuries, if not millennia old, seemed to be daunting and misguided....But when the great professions of confidence in God harden into philosophical propositions, one is bound to ask: What difference would it make to say that God has only one face? Even if true in some sense, the fact of the matter is that features each of us would count as necessary and changeless would be a matter of considerable debate." - From the Introduction In 1998/99 five scholars presented lectures at Washington National Cathedral about our images of God and what difference they make. This book, and its companion videos, will allow parish study groups and individuals to consider and discuss the viewpoints of Marcus Borg, Karen Armstrong, Jack Miles, James Cone, and Andrew Sung Park.

Book excerpt: You no longer have to choose between what you know and what you believe—an accessible introduction to a theological game-changer. "I wrote this book for you if you want to be able to locate your life in a single, encompassing story, one that includes everything from the first moment the universe began until yesterday, a narrative that embraces deepest personal meaning, a yearning to love and be loved, a quest for social justice and compassion." —from the Introduction Much of what you were told you should believe when you were younger forces you to choose between your spirit and your intellect, between science and religion, between morality and dogma: unchanging laws of nature vs. miracles that sound magical; a good God vs. the tragedies that strike all living creatures; a God who knows the future absolutely vs. an open future that you help to shape through your choices. This fascinating introduction to Process Theology from a Jewish perspective shows that these are false choices. Inspiring speaker, spiritual leader and philosopher Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson presents an overview of what Process Theology is and what it can mean for your spiritual life. He explains how Process Theology can break you free from the strictures of ancient Greek and medieval European philosophy, allowing you to see all creation not as this or that, us or them, but as related patterns of energy through which we connect to everything. Armed with Process insights and tools, you can break free from outdated religious dichotomies and affirm that your religiosity, your spirit, your mind and your ethics all strengthen and refine each other.

Book excerpt: During the early hours of what is supposed to be an ordinary work day, I steer the pickup truck out of the driveway onto highway fifty-six heading west towards Madison, to my store. In less than ten minutes my life as I have known it, spins out of normality when I see the face of God hovering over a stand of Sycamore and Pin oak trees, where Eagle hollow Road merges into highway fifty-six. To my total amazement, Gods' facial expression was not full of love and tenderness towards me but rage and judgment. His eyes were piercing sharp, a clear marine aqua color and I felt for sure if He looked directly at me I would be dead instantly, because those eyes had the power to pierce a hole clear through anyone or anything. Though I am afraid of what I am seeing, I do realize that I am witnessing a miraculous happening. However God leaves as fast as He came to me without a message; not one word, and this leaves me baffled. Why did He come to me? Through out the day I shared with others what I had seen only to be let known, that I was not believed. Two weeks later while having lunch with my eldest sister Ann, I revealed what had happened to me on that September morning. To my utmost surprise Ann believes me and informs me, "That God doesn't just drop in on a person for no apparent reason, and it was up to me to find the reason." It was on this day that a seed was planted in my brain that I would indeed start a serious quest in search of God. A search that would take me on an educational tour into past life's to learn why they are necessary and to gain a fuller understanding as to what is expected from each and everyone of us. I was also taken into the heavenly Kingdom to see the Hall of Souls and the Hall of Memories and learned what happens to us after we are judged. But, will my heavenly Father fulfill my biggest quest of all?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deism is the religion that has captivated brilliant minds throughout human history, such as Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein. The book "Deism: From Philosophy to Religion" explores the quest for knowledge of God. Marcel Dubois, a master of deism, presents a vision of God as a transcendental entity who established the natural laws of the universe. The book addresses the problem of limited and anthropomorphic understanding of God found in many religions. The proposed solution is reason as a tool to explore the divine through a non-dogmatic perspective. The book discusses topics such as the relationship between God, science, and human existence from a deistic perspective and brilliantly narrates the journey of the soul. With his experience as a master of deism, Marcel Dubois offers an in-depth insight into the principles of this non-dogmatic religious philosophy. The book invites the reader on a journey of questioning and reflection in the pursuit of understanding God and the universe, a quest that can only be undertaken through the use of reason.
