Book excerpt: Divided into sections that represent the breadth of Alison Rossiter's (born 1953) process and vision, 'Expired Paper' offers a comprehensive look at the artist's body of cameraless photo-art?Latent, Landscapes, Pools, Pours, Dips, Blurs, Fours and Collages. Art critic Leah Ollman has been contemplating Rossiter's work for years, and her accompanying text serves as an ideal complement to the images: 'All of the works pay homage to the rich idiosyncrasies of photographic papers across history, and restore a sanctity to the photograph as object. Made without cameras, lenses or film, the works are nothing but process and materiality.' The book also includes a selection of early 20th-century photographic paper packages (which the artist has collected for over 10 years) in a separate booklet.

Book Synopsis America's Expiration Date by : Cal Thomas
Download or read book America's Expiration Date written by Cal Thomas and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A warning and a wake-up call to learn history so we are not doomed to repeat it. A must-read for anyone who longs for a promising future for our great nation. What is wrong with America today? Is it possible that America could crumble and our democracy fail? Questions like these plague Americans and cause us to be anxious about the future of the "land that we love." Individuals may come to different conclusions, but there seems to be a common thread - the deep-seated feeling that we need to improve our country. Our culture is increasingly immoral, the family structure is threatened from all sides, and government programs consistently overreach, creating massive debt. In this powerful and prophetic book, nationally syndicated columnist and trusted political commentator Cal Thomas offers a diagnosis of what exactly is wrong with the United States by drawing parallels to once-great empires and nations that declined into oblivion. Citing the historically proven 250-year pattern of how superpowers rise and fall, he predicts that America's expiration date is just around the corner and shows us how to escape their fate. Through biblical insights and hard-hitting truth, he reminds us that real change comes when America looks to God instead of Washington. Scripture, rather than politics, is the GPS he uses to point readers to the right road - a road of hope, life, and change. Because, he says, if we're willing to seek God first, learn from history, and make changes at the individual and community level, we can not only survive, but thrive, again. This powerful, timely, and much-needed perspective is a must-read for anyone who longs for a promising future for our great nation.

Book Synopsis The End of the Past by : Aldo Schiavone
Download or read book The End of the Past written by Aldo Schiavone and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS SEARCHING INTERPRETATION of past and present addresses fundamental questions about the fall of the Roman Empire. Why did ancient culture, once so strong and rich, come to an end? Was it destroyed by weaknesses inherent in its nature? Or were mistakes made that could have been avoided -- was there a point at which Greco-Roman society took a wrong turn? And in what ways is modern society different? Western history is split into two discontinuous eras, Aldo Schiavone tells us: the ancient world was fundamentally different from the modern one. He locates the essential difference in a series of economic factors: a slave-based economy, relative lack of mechanization and technology, the dominance of agriculture over urban industry. Also crucial are aspects of the ancient mentality: disdain for manual work, a preference for transcending (rather than transforming) nature, a basic belief in the permanence of limits. Schiavone's lively and provocative examination of the ancient world, "the eternal theater of history and power", offers a stimulating opportunity to view modern society in light of the experience of our forebears.

Book Synopsis A Computerized Method for Instantaneous and Continuous Measurements of Expired Nitrogen by : John Abajian
Download or read book A Computerized Method for Instantaneous and Continuous Measurements of Expired Nitrogen written by John Abajian and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basis for the on-line study of pulmonary nitrogen washout by hybrid computer is presented. The instrument produces a semilogarithmic plot of nitrogen concentration in expired gas versus cumulative alveolar ventilatory volume. Simultaneous measurements of functional residual capacity and main conducting airway volume are also recorded. Comparison of conventional washout methods and computer technique proved the validity of the computer. Secondly, a new index of intrapulmonary gas distribution is devised. The index (IDI or Inspired Gas Distribution Index) is quite sensitive to any change of the gas distribution in the lung and has a very small physiological variation (1.8 plus or minus 0.2). As one application of this computer in research, the effect of expiratory obstruction in normal subjects is studied. A 5 mm. diameter obstruction does not affect the gas distribution in the supine position, whereas the obstruction has a striking effect on gas distribution when a subject is exercising in the upright position. Book excerpt: There is a wealth of potential trapped within our hidden and unresolved places of pain. Yet, without conscious participation, we can become stuck in a cycle of repetitive patterns that leave us feeling like an imposter in our own lives. In Expired Mindsets, Charryse Johnson, gives readers both the courage and the keys to understanding the root of their patterns. She provides an introspective mind-body approach that demonstrates how to shift into a higher place of peace and potential. This book has a gentle yet poignant way of compelling you to own your story and to stop blaming yourself for choices you made as you sought to survive. Johnson is boldly creating a new lane between the intersection of mental health, inclusivity, and growth mindset. In this body of work, she is unapologetically challenging the rigidity and stigma that reduces human struggle to a sequence of self-help steps. As you read this book, you'll create a framework that allows you to investigate the diversity of your experiences through a lens of curiosity and understanding. If you are ready to cut ties with the beliefs that hold you back, Expired Mindsets belongs on your reading list.
