Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The famous Dutch philosopher Baruch de Spinoza (1632-1677) is difficult to comprehend. Emeritus professor Maarten van Buuren published two books on Spinoza in 2016, in which he analyses Spinoza's philosophy in a meticulous and enlightening way. A number of key concepts in Spinoza's philosophy are: an immanent, nature-inhabiting God, self-determination, freedom, power, reason, intuition and self-appropriation. In this book these key concepts are discussed based on the analysis of Van Buuren and the philosophy of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique. The work of the philosophers Ken Wilber and Otto Duintjer also plays a role in this book. Although a thorough analysis of philosophical concepts is important, practical application of these concepts is paramount. Theory and practice should go hand in hand. A synthesis of philosophical reasoning and effective practices for spiritual development is needed.

Human Nature and Conduct: An Introduction to Social Psychology Excerpt: "Everything that comes to mind, that 'goes through our heads,' is called a thought. To think of a thing is just to be conscious of it in any way whatsoever. Second, the term is restricted by excluding whatever is directly presented; we think (or think of) only such things as we do not directly see, hear, smell, or taste." (How We Think) John Dewey (1859-1952) is one of the primary figures associated with the philosophy of pragmatism and is considered one of the founders of functional psychology. His ideas have been influential in education and social reform. Known for his advocacy of democracy, Dewey considered two fundamental elements—schools and civil society—to be major topics needing attention and reconstruction to encourage experimental intelligence and plurality.

Book excerpt: Many prominent Christians insist that the church must yield to contemporary evolutionary theory and therefore modify traditional biblical ideas about the creation of life. They argue that God used—albeit in an undetectable way—evolutionary mechanisms to produce all forms of life. Featuring two dozen highly credentialed scientists, philosophers, and theologians from Europe and North America, this volume contests this proposal, documenting evidential, logical, and theological problems with theistic evolution—making it the most comprehensive critique of theistic evolution yet produced.

Download or read book The Big Fish written by Anna J. Bonshek and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2007 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While debate continues in the fields of the sciences and humanities as to the nature of consciousness and the location of consciousness in the brain or as a field phenomenon, in the Vedic tradition, consciousness has been understood and continues to be articulated as an infinite field of intelligence at the basis of all forms of existence. This infinite field of intelligence is accessible to human awareness, being the very nature of the mind and the structuring dynamics of the physiology--from the DNA, to the cell, tissues, organs, and to the whole body and its sophisticated functioning. This two-part volume, The Big Fish: Consciousness as Structure, Body and Space, considers in Part One the Vedic approach to consciousness, specifically referencing Maharishi Vedic Science, and discusses themes pertinent to the arts, including perception and cognition, memory as awareness, history and culture, artistic performance and social responsibility, observatory instruments as spaces and structures to enhance consciousness, and, beyond metaphor, architectural sites as multi-layered enclosures of the brain detailed in the Shrimad Devi Bhagavatam and, as cosmic habitat or Vastu aligned to the celestial bodies. Presenting some more general consciousness-based readings, Part Two includes essays by various authors on Agnes Martin and her views on art, perfection and the "Classic", unified field based education and freedom of expression versus censorship in art, prints from the Renaissance to the contemporary era as allegories of consciousness, the work of Australian artist Michael Kane Taylor as beyond a modern / postmodern dichotomy, the photographic series The Ocean of Beauty by Mark Paul Petrick referencing the Vedic text the Saundarya-Lahari, a Deleuzian analysis of the dual-screen multi-arts work Reverie I, and an account of the making of Reverie II, a single-screen video projection inspired by the idea of dynamics of awareness. This book, therefore, presents a broad range of interests and reading while offering a unique, yet profoundly transformative perspective on consciousness.
Book Synopsis Research Handbook on the Law of Artificial Intelligence by : Woodrow Barfield
Download or read book Research Handbook on the Law of Artificial Intelligence written by Woodrow Barfield and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-28 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of artificial intelligence (AI) has made tremendous advances in the last two decades, but as smart as AI is now, it is getting smarter and becoming more autonomous. This raises a host of challenges to current legal doctrine, including whether AI/algorithms should count as ‘speech’, whether AI should be regulated under antitrust and criminal law statutes, and whether AI should be considered as an agent under agency law or be held responsible for injuries under tort law. This book contains chapters from US and international law scholars on the role of law in an age of increasingly smart AI, addressing these and other issues that are critical to the evolution of the field.

Book excerpt: Septem (severn) serves as a written discourse on the severn principal energies that comprise our collective world wherein the Septem is the state of renewal to ones higher consciousness, the energetic vehicle to the severn divine attributes of manifested existence emanated from the oneness of spirit. Consisting of seven chapters; Will, Love, Creative Intelligence, Harmony, Reason, Devotion and Order, Septem conveys each of the severn divine attributes of The One, the cosmic consciousness of god. Based upon the severn ray concept found in both Aryan and Gnostic writings, Septem's framework defines and expresses the union through conscious evolution to universal being laying the foundation to which the individual conscious unit can awaken there innate divine potential.
