Book Synopsis The Cryptocurrency Phenomenon by : Gianni Nicolini
Download or read book The Cryptocurrency Phenomenon written by Gianni Nicolini and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-16 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the cryptocurrency phenomenon from a financial/monetary point of view. It offers a unique slant in at least two ways, with the financial perspective as the reference point. An examination of the technicalities surrounding blockchain and the mining of cryptocurrencies is included, but the reading is oriented to those who seek to better understand how these technical issues help to explain the functioning and the potential of cryptocurrencies, without touching on coding aspects. Moreover, the book addresses cryptocurrencies as an evolution of the concept of money, and it frames the analysis to give readers all the knowledge needed to connect the cryptocurrency phenomenon with traditional monetary theories. In so doing, cryptocurrencies are not considered as a completely disconnected trend, set apart from traditional financial systems, but as innovations that will push the concept of money forward, without dismantling previous foundations. The book also includes a discussion on central banks, and stresses how their initial diffidence toward cryptocurrencies has turned into a more active approach that includes projects to develop the so-called Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), thereby completing the analysis of the state of the art of the cryptocurrency surge. The mix of theoretical content on the concept of money, the description of payment tools and the functioning of the payment industry, and the analysis of blockchain and the cryptocurrency markets makes the book interesting reading for researchers, scholars and students of economics, finance, or business, enabling them to develop the ability to understand the dynamics of the cryptocurrency phenomenon and its possible evolution.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of Cellulose Ethers for Conservation by : Robert L. Feller
Download or read book Evaluation of Cellulose Ethers for Conservation written by Robert L. Feller and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 1991-03-21 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is the result of a three-year research program. It describes the chemical character of cellulose ethers as a general class of polymers and establishes an approximate ranking of the relative stability of each generic chemical subclass. Ranking the thermal stability of the polymers with respect to color change and loss in degree of polymerization led to the conclusion that as generic chemical classes, methylcellulose and carboxymethylcellulose appear to be the most stable of the cellulose ethers. Water-soluble ethylhydroxyethylcellulose apparently also possesses good stability. Of questionable long-term stability are hydroxyethylcellulose and hydroxy- propylcellulose. Ethylcellulose and organic-soluble ethylhydroxyethylcellulose proved to be of poor stability, potentially undergoing marked changes in twenty years or less under normal museum conditions. An important additional conclusion reached here, as well as in an earlier investigation, is that considerable variations in stability can occur within a generic chemical class from differences in the basic raw material, a natural product from plants, which is not a uniform, manufactured, chemical substance. Further variations can exist due to different manufacturing processes or commercial sources. Hence, commercial products must be evaluated individually to determine the most stable of a given generic type. Nonetheless, the authors believe the conclusions expressed here to be valid with regard to the relative stability of the generic chemical classes of cellulose ethers.

Book Synopsis The Whole Person by : Roberta Vienneau
Download or read book The Whole Person written by Roberta Vienneau and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2023-07-05 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world where many are disillusioned with the highly drug-dependent medical establishment, integrative medicine is gaining popularity because of its more holistic approach. Holism by definition implies greater than the sum of its parts, and is a response to reductionism, especially biological reductionism in medicine. The holistic model widely accepted in integrative healthcare today is a biopsychosocial model that aims to treat the whole person. It is a systems hierarchy model that includes the universe to a cell particle, so one’s understanding of holism will be reflected in what one considers relevant. To a pulmonologist, holism might mean the whole respiratory system, to a geneticist, holism might mean the whole family history, but...who is treating the whole “person”? This groundbreaking book sheds light on the limitations of integrative healthcare in exploring the full potential of homeopathy in treating the whole person. It argues that we don’t need a new approach, definition, or understanding of holism. We sometimes just need to step out of the systems hierarchy model of the reductionist paradigm itself to get a larger view, and redefine the boundaries of what constitutes the wholeness of a person. With a clear and engaging writing style, the book takes readers on a journey through the history and evolution of the concept of “whole”, and presents a compelling case for the adoption of an anthroposophic paradigm as a more comprehensive and effective approach to holism, healing, and homeopathy. Whether you are a homeopath, a healthcare practitioner, a patient, or simply interested in holistic medicine, this is a must-read book that will challenge your assumptions and expand your understanding of what it means to treat the whole person.
