Book Synopsis Applied Optimal Estimation by : The Analytic Sciences Corporation
Download or read book Applied Optimal Estimation written by The Analytic Sciences Corporation and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1974-05-15 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book on the optimal estimation that places its major emphasis on practical applications, treating the subject more from an engineering than a mathematical orientation. Even so, theoretical and mathematical concepts are introduced and developed sufficiently to make the book a self-contained source of instruction for readers without prior knowledge of the basic principles of the field. The work is the product of the technical staff of The Analytic Sciences Corporation (TASC), an organization whose success has resulted largely from its applications of optimal estimation techniques to a wide variety of real situations involving large-scale systems. Arthur Gelb writes in the Foreword that "It is our intent throughout to provide a simple and interesting picture of the central issues underlying modern estimation theory and practice. Heuristic, rather than theoretically elegant, arguments are used extensively, with emphasis on physical insights and key questions of practical importance." Numerous illustrative examples, many based on actual applications, have been interspersed throughout the text to lead the student to a concrete understanding of the theoretical material. The inclusion of problems with "built-in" answers at the end of each of the nine chapters further enhances the self-study potential of the text. After a brief historical prelude, the book introduces the mathematics underlying random process theory and state-space characterization of linear dynamic systems. The theory and practice of optimal estimation is them presented, including filtering, smoothing, and prediction. Both linear and non-linear systems, and continuous- and discrete-time cases, are covered in considerable detail. New results are described concerning the application of covariance analysis to non-linear systems and the connection between observers and optimal estimators. The final chapters treat such practical and often pivotal issues as suboptimal structure, and computer loading considerations. This book is an outgrowth of a course given by TASC at a number of US Government facilities. Virtually all of the members of the TASC technical staff have, at one time and in one way or another, contributed to the material contained in the work.
Book Synopsis Control and Dynamic Systems V20 by : C.T. Leonides
Download or read book Control and Dynamic Systems V20 written by C.T. Leonides and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems, Volume 20 is a collection of papers that discusses the techniques and technology of the application of nonlinear filters and Kalman filters. This collection deals with issues on computation techniques along with many examples of applications of these filters. One paper reviews the bias-separated estimation theory with some alternate derivations by investigators which can provide further extensions. Another paper shows that methods and techniques used in estimating stochastic parameters that have been derived from conventional stochastic operations are effective in various applications. Other papers describe the many advanced applications of Kalman filters and nonlinear estimators in aerospace systems such as the application of adaptive Kalman filtering for aided strapdown navigation systems. As an example, a software package can test the technique of model switching; as well as other applications of the methods of adaptive Kalman filtering for aided strapdown navigation systems. Total system development of ballistic missiles concerns system-level understanding that uses modern analytic methods including applications of filtering and smoothing theory. This book can prove useful for people working in industrial process control or in econometrics, as well as nuclear physicists.

Book Synopsis Optimal and Robust Estimation by : Frank L. Lewis
Download or read book Optimal and Robust Estimation written by Frank L. Lewis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than a decade ago, world-renowned control systems authority Frank L. Lewis introduced what would become a standard textbook on estimation, under the title Optimal Estimation, used in top universities throughout the world. The time has come for a new edition of this classic text, and Lewis enlisted the aid of two accomplished experts to bring the book completely up to date with the estimation methods driving today's high-performance systems. A Classic Revisited Optimal and Robust Estimation: With an Introduction to Stochastic Control Theory, Second Edition reflects new developments in estimation theory and design techniques. As the title suggests, the major feature of this edition is the inclusion of robust methods. Three new chapters cover the robust Kalman filter, H-infinity filtering, and H-infinity filtering of discrete-time systems. Modern Tools for Tomorrow's Engineers This text overflows with examples that highlight practical applications of the theory and concepts. Design algorithms appear conveniently in tables, allowing students quick reference, easy implementation into software, and intuitive comparisons for selecting the best algorithm for a given application. In addition, downloadable MATLAB® code allows students to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software tools for a wide variety of applications. This cutting-edge and highly interactive text makes teaching, and learning, estimation methods easier and more modern than ever.

Book Synopsis Kalman Filtering and Information Fusion by : Hongbin Ma
Download or read book Kalman Filtering and Information Fusion written by Hongbin Ma and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses a key technology for digital information processing: Kalman filtering, which is generally considered to be one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. It introduces readers to issues concerning various uncertainties in a single plant, and to corresponding solutions based on adaptive estimation. Further, it discusses in detail the issues that arise when Kalman filtering technology is applied in multi-sensor systems and/or multi-agent systems, especially when various sensors are used in systems like intelligent robots, autonomous cars, smart homes, smart buildings, etc., requiring multi-sensor information fusion techniques. Furthermore, when multiple agents (subsystems) interact with one another, it produces coupling uncertainties, a challenging issue that is addressed here with the aid of novel decentralized adaptive filtering techniques.Overall, the book’s goal is to provide readers with a comprehensive investigation into the challenging problem of making Kalman filtering work well in the presence of various uncertainties and/or for multiple sensors/components. State-of-art techniques are introduced, together with a wealth of novel findings. As such, it can be a good reference book for researchers whose work involves filtering and applications; yet it can also serve as a postgraduate textbook for students in mathematics, engineering, automation, and related fields. To read this book, only a basic grasp of linear algebra and probability theory is needed, though experience with least squares, navigation, robotics, etc. would definitely be a plus.
Book Synopsis Sensor Noise and Kalman Filter for Aided Inertial Navigation System by : G. S. Grewal
Download or read book Sensor Noise and Kalman Filter for Aided Inertial Navigation System written by G. S. Grewal and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inertial Navigation System, barometric altimeter, TACAN, and ILS are used to achieve a synergistic combination of the outputs of individual subsystems. Kalman filter is used to provide an ideal method for data processing in this multisensor navigation system. The filter design begins with the development of mathematical and statistical error models to describe the truth system. The truth model is simplified and reduced, in steps, to lower the computation burden on the on-board computer. The covariance analysis and the Monte Carlo methods of testing the performance of the Kalman filters based on reduced and simplified system models are discussed. Suggestions for further research in the area of fault detection and isolation are offered. (Author).
