Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raghavan Iyer founded "HERMES," a journal of Theosophical Wisdom, as one of several vehicles for the current behind the 7th Century Impulsion just prior to the beginning of the 1975 Cycle in Santa Barbara, California. In that journal, he illustrated the ways in which Mahatmas have worked and continue to work in the world. In the lead article of this volume, "The Seventh Impulsion: 1963-2000," he made clear that the Mahatmic impulsions were concentrated in the last quarter of each century, but that preparations for them occurred earlier, and that their reverberations lasted far beyond the conclusion of each quarter-century cycle in an unfailing continuous stream. Near the beginning of 1976, after a year of guiding the golden "HERMES" current, Professor Iyer determined that those thinkers and teachers most involved in the Seven Century Plan should be honored through writings-called the Teacher Articles-that described the hidden current behind their lives and the timeless context for their work within the cycles of time. All of the Teacher Articles were written from a Theosophical perspective based, in large part, upon the philosophy expounded in H. P. Blavatsky's "The Secret Doctrine," This collection of essays contains those articles that first appeared in "HERMES" as an exploration of the Seven Century Plan.

Book excerpt: Dear Readers, To educate the complete child, teaching and learning must encompass all aspects of student development. How do experts from many disciplines collaborate and combine their skills and abilities to meet the developmental requirements of students? What attitudes and ideas are required to effectively collaborate in order to build healthy educational settings for children? Who has responsibility for the collaborative process, and who intervenes when it fails? There is room for everyone to excel intellectually if they are given the correct education from the beginning. "The function of education is to teach one to think deeply and critically." True education aims to develop intelligence as well as character. The importance of cooperation and coordination in problem resolution and transformation in classrooms, schools, and school-community systems is emphasised. What exactly is 'Education'? What is its principal function, and what is it not? Which techniques support it, and at what cognitive levels? So many fundamental issues that many of our "trained teachers," among others, raise. And there are few forums where they may debate the few replies they have found so far. As a result, there was a perceived need for a book of this type, containing basic principles and introductions to many pertinent theories. I hope that the book will be a useful resource for student-teachers, teachers, teacher-educators, and all stakeholders in our country's educational institutions.

Book excerpt: This long overdue English translation of Karl Löwith's magisterial study is a major event in Nietzsche scholarship in the Anglo-American intellectual world. Its initial publication was extraordinary in itself—a dissident interpretation, written by a Jew, appearing in National Socialist Germany in 1935. Since then, Löwith's book has continued to gain recognition as one of the key texts in the German Nietzsche reception, as well as a remarkable effort to reclaim the philosopher's work from political misappropriation. For Löwith, the centerpiece of Nietzsche's thought is the doctrine of eternal recurrence, a notion which Löwith, unlike Heidegger, deems incompatible with the will to power. His careful examination of Nietzsche's cosmological theory of the infinite repetition of a finite number of states of the world suggests the paradoxical consequences this theory implies for human freedom. How is it possible to will the eternal recurrence of each moment of one's life, if both this decision and the states of affairs governed by it appear to be predestined? Löwith's book, one of the most important, if seldom acknowledged, sources for recent Anglophone Nietzsche studies, remains a central text for all concerned with understanding the philosopher's work.

Book excerpt: "Serious philosophy is not an attempt to construct a system of beliefs, but the activity of awakening, the conversation passionately pursued. Only if professional philosophy reclaims this paradigm and finds ways to embody it, will it achieve an active place in the thought and life of our culture." --James Conlon, "Stanley Cavell and the Predicament of Philosophy." This book is a collection of serious philosophical essays that aim to awaken readers, teachers, and students to a desire for conversation passionately pursued. The essays in this volume speak about sex, movies, poetry, and politics, in short, about those things contemporary Americans passionately discuss. These are the subjects that were taught for forty-three years in James Conlon's classroom at Mount Mary University, a Catholic urban university for women in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This volume celebrates Conlon's work while calling to all who continue to teach and learn about philosophy in contemporary times with the message that relevant philosophy deals with life as it is lived in the moment.

I am just a humble teacher with a heart overwhelmed with the memories of my students who came into my life in school as small children and stayed back forever even when they grew up. They walked side by side with me on the road of life sharing all smiles and sorrows. They say a teacher imparts knowledge. Yes! they do, but it is also true that some students teach truly beautiful lessons, make a difference in life, support, applaud, inspire and help in forging an authentic teacher too. 'Yours Truly' is me, whom the magnanimous provider blessed with many students who made me a teacher in true sense. This book is a mark of gratitude to all my boys and girls who were, are and for sure will be with me as my inspiration. Indebted I am to them all for not only being there and keeping connected with me with all their care, love and concern but also teaching me so many precious lessons to abide.

This book was released on 2022-07-08 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores why and how the personal creative practice of arts teachers in school matters. It responds to ethnographic research that considers specific works-of-art created by teachers within the context of their classrooms. Through a classroom-based ethnographic investigation, the book proposes that the potential impact of artist-teacher practice in the classroom can only be understood in relation to the flows of power and policy that concurrently shape the classroom. It shows how artist-teacher practice functions as a creative practice of freedom tending to the present and future aesthetic life of the classroom, countering the effects of neoliberal schooling and austerity politics. The book questions what the artist-teacher can produce within that context. Through the unique focus on artist-teacher practice, the book explores the changing nature of the classroom and the social and political dimensions of the school. It will be key reading for researchers and postgraduate students of arts education, critical pedagogy, teacher identity and aesthetics. It will also be of interest to art and design educators.
