Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maximum principles are bedrock results in the theory of second order elliptic equations. This principle, simple enough in essence, lends itself to a quite remarkable number of subtle uses when combined appropriately with other notions. Intended for a wide audience, the book provides a clear and comprehensive explanation of the various maximum principles available in elliptic theory, from their beginning for linear equations to recent work on nonlinear and singular equations.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Potential Theory on Metric Spaces by : Anders Björn
Download or read book Nonlinear Potential Theory on Metric Spaces written by Anders Björn and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2011 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The $p$-Laplace equation is the main prototype for nonlinear elliptic problems and forms a basis for various applications, such as injection moulding of plastics, nonlinear elasticity theory, and image processing. Its solutions, called p-harmonic functions, have been studied in various contexts since the 1960s, first on Euclidean spaces and later on Riemannian manifolds, graphs, and Heisenberg groups. Nonlinear potential theory of p-harmonic functions on metric spaces has been developing since the 1990s and generalizes and unites these earlier theories. This monograph gives a unified treatment of the subject and covers most of the available results in the field, so far scattered over a large number of research papers. The aim is to serve both as an introduction to the area for interested readers and as a reference text for active researchers. The presentation is rather self contained, but it is assumed that readers know measure theory and functional analysis. The first half of the book deals with Sobolev type spaces, so-called Newtonian spaces, based on upper gradients on general metric spaces. In the second half, these spaces are used to study p-harmonic functions on metric spaces, and a nonlinear potential theory is developed under some additional, but natural, assumptions on the underlying metric space. Each chapter contains historical notes with relevant references, and an extensive index is provided at the end of the book.

Book Synopsis Differential Operators On Spaces Of Variable Integrability by : Osvaldo Mendez
Download or read book Differential Operators On Spaces Of Variable Integrability written by Osvaldo Mendez and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-06-26 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of Lebesgue and Sobolev spaces with variable integrability is experiencing a steady expansion, and is the subject of much vigorous research by functional analysts, function-space analysts and specialists in nonlinear analysis. These spaces have attracted attention not only because of their intrinsic mathematical importance as natural, interesting examples of non-rearrangement-invariant function spaces but also in view of their applications, which include the mathematical modeling of electrorheological fluids and image restoration. The main focus of this book is to provide a solid functional-analytic background for the study of differential operators on spaces with variable integrability. It includes some novel stability phenomena which the authors have recently discovered. At the present time, this is the only book which focuses systematically on differential operators on spaces with variable integrability. The authors present a concise, natural introduction to the basic material and steadily move toward differential operators on these spaces, leading the reader quickly to current research topics.
Book Synopsis Heat Kernels and Analysis on Manifolds, Graphs, and Metric Spaces by : Pascal Auscher
Download or read book Heat Kernels and Analysis on Manifolds, Graphs, and Metric Spaces written by Pascal Auscher and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the expanded lecture notes of courses taught at the Emile Borel Centre of the Henri Poincare Institute (Paris). In the book, leading experts introduce recent research in their fields. The unifying theme is the study of heat kernels in various situations using related geometric and analytic tools. Topics include analysis of complex-coefficient elliptic operators, diffusions on fractals and on infinite-dimensional groups, heat kernel and isoperimetry on Riemannian manifolds, heat kernels and infinite dimensional analysis, diffusions and Sobolev-type spaces on metric spaces, quasi-regular mappings and $p$-Laplace operators, heat kernel and spherical inversion on $SL 2(C)$, random walks and spectral geometry on crystal lattices, isoperimetric and isocapacitary inequalities, and generating function techniques for random walks on graphs. This volume is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in random processes and analysis on manifolds.

Book Synopsis p-Laplace Equation in the Heisenberg Group by : Diego Ricciotti
Download or read book p-Laplace Equation in the Heisenberg Group written by Diego Ricciotti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-28 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This works focuses on regularity theory for solutions to the p-Laplace equation in the Heisenberg group. In particular, it presents detailed proofs of smoothness for solutions to the non-degenerate equation and of Lipschitz regularity for solutions to the degenerate one. An introductory chapter presents the basic properties of the Heisenberg group, making the coverage self-contained. The setting is the first Heisenberg group, helping to keep the notation simple and allow the reader to focus on the core of the theory and techniques in the field. Further, detailed proofs make the work accessible to students at the graduate level.

Book Synopsis Nonlocal Continuum Limits of p-Laplacian Problems on Graphs by : Imad El Bouchairi
Download or read book Nonlocal Continuum Limits of p-Laplacian Problems on Graphs written by Imad El Bouchairi and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-30 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Element, the authors consider fully discretized p-Laplacian problems (evolution, boundary value and variational problems) on graphs. The motivation of nonlocal continuum limits comes from the quest of understanding collective dynamics in large ensembles of interacting particles, which is a fundamental problem in nonlinear science, with applications ranging from biology to physics, chemistry and computer science. Using the theory of graphons, the authors give a unified treatment of all the above problems and establish the continuum limit for each of them together with non-asymptotic convergence rates. They also describe an algorithmic framework based proximal splitting to solve these discrete problems on graphs.
