Book excerpt: Written by well-known experts in a reader-friendly style, this is the only book to focus specifically on post-surgical guidelines for successful rehabilitation of the knee and shoulder for sports patients. Content covers basic concepts related to soft tissue healing, as well as core concepts in sports medicine rehabilitation, all of which lay the groundwork for discussions of specific protocols. Detailed descriptions of the latest post-surgical procedures for various knee and shoulder pathologies equip readers with essential knowledge needed to recommend the most effective treatment plans. Includes a separate section on multiple ligament knee injuries. Numerous photos and radiographs of topics discussed in the text serve as excellent visual references in the clinical setting. Detailed descriptions of the most current surgical protocols for various knee and shoulder pathologies help readers recommend the best treatment based on proven rehabilitation plans. The inflammatory response is described, with regard to its role in soft tissue healing following surgical procedures of the knee and shoulder. Protocols based on the most recent research available promotes evidence-based practice. A chapter on rotator cuff injuries includes authoritative, up-to-date information on this topic. A chapter on cartilage replacement focuses on the "nuts and bolts" of rehabilitation for this common injury, offering current, hands-on information about one of the fastest changing treatment protocols. Contributors are expert therapists and physicians - respected leaders in their field. Each chapter highlights post-op guidelines and protocols in a consistent format that's immediately accessible and easy to reference. Comprehensive information on soft tissue healing is presented. A separate section on multiple ligament knee injuries presents hard-to-find information that's rarely covered in other resources or literature.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of an in-season strength-training program on throwing velocity. Twenty-one baseball players, mean # SD age, height, and weight of 16.7 # 1.2 yr., 71.1 # 3.1 in., and 168.1 # 29.9 lb, respectively, were assigned to a control or experimental group. Pre-test and post-test throwing velocities were measured with a radar gun. The experimental group participated in a strength-training program three time a week for six weeks. Data was analyzed with an ANOVA. There was no significant interaction between the experitmental group (n=10) (pre-test) 68.3 mph, post-test 69.6 mph) and the control group (n=8) (pre-test 69.3 mph, post-test 69.6 mph) over time. There was no main effect (n=18) for time; pre-test vs. post-test velocities 68.7 mph and 69.6 mph, respectively, or for group; control vs. experimental. It can be concluded that a six-week strength-training program has no effect on throwing velocity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Triphasic Training? It is the pinnacle of sports performance training. Created by world renown coach, Cal Dietz, Triphasic Training breaks down dynamic, athletic movements into their three components (eccentric, isometric, and concentric), and maximizes performance gains by applying stress to the athlete in a way that allows for the continuous development of strength, speed, and power. Who uses Triphasic Training: Everyone! From elite level athletes to absolute beginners, the triphasic method of training allows for maximal performance gains in minimal time. For that reason professional athletes from all backgrounds seek out Coach Dietz each off-season to train with his triphasic system. Coach Dietz has worked with hundreds of athletes from the NFL, NHL, and MLB, as well as several dozen Olympic athletes in track and field, swimming, and hockey. What the book is about: Triphasic Training was originally a digital book with over 3,000 hyperlinks and 6 hours of video lectures, showing the reader exactly how to perform every exercise and apply the training methods. To ensure that you do not miss out on this valuable component, inside your book you will find a web link to a downloadable PDF that contains all of the hyperlinks and videos from the original digital book. The PDF is laid out to allow you to easily follow along as you read the book. Simply scroll in the PDF to the page that you are reading in the book and it will have every hyperlink and video that is on that page. The book contains over 350 pages, divided clearly into 2 parts: the “why” and the “what”. The first three sections go through the physiological basis for the Triphasic method, undulated block periodization, and general biological applications of stress. The authors will explain how to incorporate the Triphasic methods into existing programs, with complete descriptions on adapting it to virtually any scenario. Sections 4 through 7 are devoted entirely to programming, with over 3,000 exercises and 52 weeks of programs for numerous different sports. Included in the programming section are: Over 3,000 exercises, each hyperlinked to a video tutorial that shows you exactly how to perform the exercise. 5 separate 24-week training programs built for either 6 day, 5 day, 4 day, 3 day, or 2 day models. Over 6 hours of video lectures by Coach Dietz further explaining the Triphasic Training method. These lectures go even deeper into the physiology and application of what he does with his elite athletes. Over two dozen tables showing exactly when and how to modify exercises to ensure continuous improvement in your athletes. Peaking programs for football lineman or skill players, baseball, swimming, volleyball, and hockey players (among others). A complete 52 week training program for football.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Bat head velocity is an important factor in hitting. It is hypothesized that in order to generate maximal bat head velocity a hitter must have a strong torso to generate rotational power. This study attempted to determine the effectiveness of a torso strength and rotational power program vs. weight training on the improvement of angular hip and shoulder velocity and linear bat head velocity in male college baseball players. The position players of three college baseball teams were pre and post tested for maximal angular hip and shoulder velocity and peak linear bat head velocity in the impact zone through biomechanical analysis. The first group engaged in weight training and the torso strength and rotational power program for the ten week training period. The second group engaged in only weight training and the third group acted as control. The statistic measures used were a 3 X 2 factorial ANOVA (p
