The approval and use of alcohol by parents can have significant effects on their children for years to come. The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between parental drinking and the drinking patterns of young adults. The participants consisted of 65 public college students, ranging from ages 18 to 24. A survey formulated from questions taken from the survey used by Harvard School of Public Health for the College Alcohol Study along with questions from the research was used to collect data. For this particular study, no significant statistical correlation was found between the participant's personal use of alcohol and their parent's use of alcohol. However, parental use of alcohol was found to have a significant effect on whether or not participants had a drinking problem and on siblings' struggle with drinking.

The guidelines therefore emphasize the importance of collaboration between the health and other sectors and joint efforts across all government levels to promote healthy housing.
