Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 39 (thesis year 1994) a total of 13,953 thesis titles from 21 Canadian and 159 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 39 reports theses submitted in 1994, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Synopsis Yielding and Deformation Behavior of the Single Crystal Nickel-Base Superalloy PWA 1480 by :
Download or read book Yielding and Deformation Behavior of the Single Crystal Nickel-Base Superalloy PWA 1480 written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interrupted tensile tests were conducted to fixed plastic strain levels in 001 oriented single crystals of the nickel-base superalloys PWA 1480. Testing was done in the range from 20-1093 C, at strain rates of 0.5 and 50%/min. The yield strength was constant from 20-760 C, above which the strength dropped rapidly and became a strong function of strain rate. The high temperature data could be represented very well by an Arrhenius-type equation, which resulted in three distinct temperature regimes. The deformation substructures could be grouped in the same three regimes.

This book was released on 1986 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Directionally solidified (Ds) MAR-M246+Hf was tested in tension and fatigue, at temperatures from 20 C - 1093 C. Tests were performed on (001) oriented specimens at strain rates of 50 % and 0.5 % per minutes. In tension, the yield strength was constant up to 704 C, above which the strength dropped off rapidly. A strong dependence of strength on strain rate was seen at the higher temperatures. The deformation mode was observed to change from heterogeneous to homogeneous with increasing temperature. Low Cycle Fatigue tests were done using a fully reversed waveform and total strain control. for a given plastic strain range, lives increased with increasing temperature. For a given temperature strain rate had a strong effect on life. At 704 C, decreasing strain rates decreased life, while at the higher temperatures, decreasing strain rates increased life, for a given plastic strain range. These results could be explained through considerations of the deformation modes and stress levels. At the higher temperatures, marked coarsening caused beneficial stress reductions, but oxidation limited the life. The longitudinal grain boundaries were found to influence slip behavior. The degree of secondary slip adjacent to the boundaries was found to be related to the degree of misorientation between the grains.
Book Synopsis The Influence of Microstructure on the Tensile Behavior of Rene 95 by : M. N. Menon
Download or read book The Influence of Microstructure on the Tensile Behavior of Rene 95 written by M. N. Menon and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A transmission and scanning electron microscope study has been conducted on the deformation and fracture behavior of Rene 95, an advanced superalloy developed for use as a disk material in gas turbine engines. In addition to the normal solid solution strengthening and precipitation strengthening mechanisms, Rene 95 derives part of its strength from thermomechanical processing. In this paper, the tensile mechanical properties, deformation structure and tensile fracture characteristics of Rene 95 are examined and related to the microstructure. The results are compared with those from the conventionally processed material (without TMP), and an attempt is made to account for the factors that influence the tensile characteristics of these two materials.

Book Synopsis Fatigue Crack Propagation of Nickel-Base Superalloys at 650°C by : TP. Gabb
Download or read book Fatigue Crack Propagation of Nickel-Base Superalloys at 650°C written by TP. Gabb and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 650°C fatigue crack propagation behavior of two nickel-base superalloys, René 95 and Waspaloy, were studied with particular emphasis placed on understanding the roles of creep, environment, and two key grain boundary alloying additions, boron and zirconium. Comparison of air and vacuum data showed the air environment to be detrimental over a wide range of frequencies for both alloys. In-depth analysis of René 95 showed that at lower frequencies, such as 0.02 Hz, failure in air occurred by intergranular, environmentally assisted creep crack growth, while at higher frequencies, up to 5.0 Hz, environmental interactions were still evident but creep effects were minimized. The effect of boron and zirconium in Waspaloy was found to be important where environmental and/or creep interactions were present. In those instances, removal of boron and zirconium dramatically increased crack growth. It is therefore plausible that effective dilution of these elements may explain, in part, a previously observed trend in which crack growth rates increased with decreasing grain size.

This book was released on 2020 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hot deformation behavior of nickel-based superalloy XH 67 (Ni-18.5Cr-4.5Mo-4.5W-3.0Fe-2.5Ti-1.2Al) was investigated in the temperature range of 900Degree C-1,200Degree C and in the strain rate range of 10 -3 -10 s -1 . A processing map was generated from the flow stress data. Detailed postdeformation microscopy was carried out to understand the microstructural evolution during hot deformation. Correlation of the kinetic analysis together with microstructural characterization studies was accomplished to identify the rate controlling mechanism. An increase in the fraction of , 3, , , , boundaries is observed with an increase in the strain rate at 1,150Degree C. In the temperature range of 1,100Degree C-1,200Degree C, discontinued dynamic recrystallization has been identified as the major softening mechanism. Based on the critical analysis of the mechanical data together with microstructural analysis, the safe hot working regime for the XH 67 alloy is established to have a temperature range of 1,100Degree C-1,200Degree C and a strain rate range of 10 -3 to 5-10 -2 s -1.
