Book Synopsis Imagery and Verbal Processes by : A. Paivio
Download or read book Imagery and Verbal Processes written by A. Paivio and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1978. In this book the author has attempted to present a systematic theoretical and factual account of the role of higher mental processes in human learning and memory, and certain aspects of the psychology of perception and language. The major orienting theme of the book is its dual emphasis on nonverbal imagery and verbal processes (inner speech) as memory codes and mediators of behavior. Based on recent experimental evidence, the conceptual approach in a sense represents an integration of pre-behavioristic and behavioristic views concerning the nature of thought. The book is intended both as a textbook and as a theoretical monograph.

Book Synopsis Suggestion and Suggestibility by : Vladimir A. Gheorghiu
Download or read book Suggestion and Suggestibility written by Vladimir A. Gheorghiu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the First International Sym posium on Suggestion and Suggestibility, held at the University of Giessen in the Federal Republic of Germany, July 7-111987, upon the initiative of and organized by Dr. V. A. Gheorghiu and Dr. P. Netter. I regret that for personal reasons I was unable to accept his kind invita tion to attend, for Dr. Gheorghiu and I are old friends. I am pleased, however, to have this opportunity to call attention to the significance of this volume. Most of the chapters were presented in approximately their present form at the symposium, though some have been extensi vely revised for publication. It was a wise choice to divide the papers into four major sections. - I. Theoretical and Historical Perspectives, II. Assessment and Indivi dual Differences of Suggestibility, III. Psychophysiological Aspects of Suggestibility, and IV. Social and Cognitive Aspects of Suggestive Processes - each with a summarizing commentary. In view of the variety and difficulty of the individual papers, it is a help to have the integration provided by these commentaries - on Part I by Sheehan (Chap. 7), on Part II by Lundy (Chap. 13), on Part III by Edmonston (Chap. 19), and on Part IV by Fiedler (Chap. 30).

Book Synopsis Human Memory by : Johannes Engelkamp
Download or read book Human Memory written by Johannes Engelkamp and published by Seattle ; Toronto : Hogrefe & Huber Publishers. This book was released on 1994 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our memory of simple action phrases such as "comb your hair" improves by about 50% when we actually act out the phrase. Extensive studies on this self-performance effect, which is not explained by any of the current theories of episodic memory, led the authors of this book to develop a fascinating multi-modal model of memory. The central idea of this model is that human information processing is to a certain extent decentralized, and that episodic memory performance depends not only on central information processing, but also on which systems are actually involved in the encoding and retrieval of the material itself. This book describes the practical evidence and theoretical background for this model, which not only challenges current concepts in the psychology of memory, but also has potentially very important implications about how people might best learn to remember information in our increasingly "multi-modal" information age.
Book Synopsis Neurophysiology in Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia by : Davide Vito Moretti
Download or read book Neurophysiology in Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia written by Davide Vito Moretti and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and dementia are the most common neurodegenerative disorder. Since the number of individuals with AD and dementia is expected to increase considerably in the near future, reliable treatment and diagnosis are critical. EEG and neurophysiological technique could be used as a cost-effective screening tool for early detection and diagnosis in the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) stage. The aim in neurophysiology research is to develop signal processing methods that improve the specificity for diagnosing dementia; we wish to discover signal features that not only significantly differ in AD patients, but also allow us to reliably separate AD patients and control subjects. This approach is valuable for clinical purposes (as diagnostic tool for dementia), and it also more fundamentally contributes to a better understanding of brain dynamics of MCI patients. Finally, the development of neurophysiological biomarker could be useful in monitoring pharmacological treatments. The main focus of this special issue will be on the most recent developments and ideas in the field of EEG and neurophysiology which will enable us to extract features that improve the specificity for diagnosing AD and dementia.
