Book excerpt: A study with the use of dance movement therapy as a counseling approach in a suburban high school setting was presented. The objective of this study was to determine if Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) with females struggling with relational issues with their paternal figure contributed to improved self esteem, body image, and communication skills. The literature review describes dance movement therapy, aspects of self-esteem, body image, dance movement therapy used with specific populations, fundamentals of group work, and movement therapy techniques used with adolescents. Methods of the study were presented with the use of eight movement therapy interventions. The instrument and participants were also described. The results were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively through pre and post test results and observations. Results indicated that DMT was an effective therapeutic technique in a school setting. The discussion also describes areas for additional research and implications for future research.

Book Synopsis Social Justice in Dance/Movement Therapy by : Laura Downey
Download or read book Social Justice in Dance/Movement Therapy written by Laura Downey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-18 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates the use of dance/movement therapy to directly counteract social injustices and promote healing in international settings. It also demonstrates the potential for dance/movement therapy in prevention and wellness in clinical and community settings. The use of improvisational and creative dance is presented throughout the book as a tremendously clear, strong and powerful inroad to healing in every setting. The chapters in this book do not directly address social justice in dance/movement therapy, but rather provide provoking social justice related positions. This call for a provoking re-examination of the definition of dance/movement therapy is fitting as we—as a community—challenge our identity as dance/movement therapists, educators, supervisors and as human beings who have internalized oppression in various forms through our many identifiers and the unique intersections of those identifiers. The editors and authors posit that social justice cannot be fully addressed by focusing solely on the social issues. Rather, we must be aware of where and how the social issues come into the individual(s), the setting, and the therapy process itself. Book Synopsis Resource Activation by : Christoph Flückiger
Download or read book Resource Activation written by Christoph Flückiger and published by Hogrefe Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise practice-oriented manual effectively shows how psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, supervisors, and counselors can quickly identify and put to therapeutic use an individual's own talents and resources. Written in an easy and relaxed style using everyday language, this manual illustrates how to actively take a person's resources into consideration during therapy and counseling sessions, and how to integrate them into existing intervention concepts. The first part illustrates approaches that can be used to focus attention on assessment and dialog, and that shed light on a person's individual resources from various angles. These therapeutic approaches can be used in the framework of existing manuals and guidelines to focus on how to "do things." The second part illustrates procedures offering a framework for further applying the different perspectives and provides sample worksheets for practical use.
