Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this study is to find out effectiveness of cold water immersion to prevent delayed onset muscle soreness. There are total 11 subjects (n=11; male =5, female = 6) participated in this study. Each subject acted as its own control in the study. Each subject had performed 5 sets of 10 drop jumps in both groups (control group and cold water immersion group). Pain levels (using vas scale), range of motion (ROM) and isometric force production (using force plate via NetForce Software (Advanced Mechanical Technologies, Inc, Newton, MA, USA) were measured. Dependent sample t-test was done to found statistically significant difference in various measured parameters. We found significant difference in pain levels and isometric force productions for a level P

Book Synopsis The Effects of Cold Water Immersion on Recovery Following the Demands Associated with Team-sport Exercise by : Monique Pointon
Download or read book The Effects of Cold Water Immersion on Recovery Following the Demands Associated with Team-sport Exercise written by Monique Pointon and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The high-intensity, physically demanding nature of team-sport exercise invokes physiological perturbations often resulting in short- and long-term reductions in muscle function and increased symptoms of exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD). When such exercise bouts are performed in hot environmental conditions and/or include exposure to intense physical collisions between opposing players, the physiological load of exercise can be exacerbated. Consequently, post-exercise recovery strategies including cold water immersion (CWI) are commonly implemented in order to minimise the deleterious symptoms associated with team-sport exercise, and optimise the quality of subsequent performance. Despite the increased popularity of CWI, minimal research has focused on the benefits following team-sport exercise and more specifically, there remains a paucity of research evaluating the subsequent effects of cold therapy on the recovery of neuromuscular function following the demands associated with team-sport exercise. Therefore, the aim of this thesis was to examine the effects of post-exercise cold therapy on the recovery of neuromuscular function following a variety of exercise conditions related to team-sport activity"--Abstract, p. v.
Book Synopsis Effects of Cold-Water Immersion on Post-Exercise Recovery of Skeletal Muscle Function Following Acute Sprint-Interval Exercise by : Sarah Mosely
Download or read book Effects of Cold-Water Immersion on Post-Exercise Recovery of Skeletal Muscle Function Following Acute Sprint-Interval Exercise written by Sarah Mosely and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cold-water immersion (CWI) is a popular post-exercise intervention, assumed to be effective in accelerating muscle recovery after strenuous exercise. Previous evidence has proposed that acute increases in oxidative stress induced by SIE cause a long-lasting depression in submaximal force generation called prolonged low-frequency force depression (PLFFD). The focus of this thesis was to test the hypothesis as to whether CWI can enhance recovery of neuromuscular function by decreasing oxidative stress and mitigating the extent of PLFFD. PLFFD was examined by measuring torque from evoked stimulation at low- and high-frequencies before, immediately after and 24h post-exercise. Results showed that PLFFD was observed at 24h post-exercise but no difference was seen in the extent of PLFFD between the cooled and control leg. These results do not support any benefit of acute 30 min post-exercise CWI on the recovery of skeletal muscle function at 24h following SIE.

Download or read book Nutritional Needs in Cold and High-Altitude Environments written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-05-15 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the research pertaining to nutrient requirements for working in cold or in high-altitude environments and states recommendations regarding the application of this information to military operational rations. It addresses whether, aside from increased energy demands, cold or high-altitude environments elicit an increased demand or requirement for specific nutrients, and whether performance in cold or high-altitude environments can be enhanced by the provision of increased amounts of specific nutrients.

Book Synopsis Effect of Active, Passive, and Cold Water Immersion on Muscle Recovery and Subsequent Performance by : Ben Wheeler

This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Purpose of this study was to determine the most effective method of recovery from an exhausting workout by comparing passive, active, and cold-water immersion (CWI). Exercise induced muscle damage (EIDM) is the micro trauma that occurs during strenuous exercise. Recovery is the physiologic response period following intense exercise where the body repairs EIMD, adapts to exercise, and refuels tissue for performance. There are many physiological and psychological factors involved in recovery. For example, active recovery may be advantageous because it promotes greater blood circulation to the damaged tissue. CWI may be advantageous because it serves to limit inflammation. By manipulating these factors it was hypothesized that CWI would be the most effective method of recovery. The Hanover College Institutional Review Board approved this study.

This book was released on 1999-08-04 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The activities of the Food and Nutrition Board's Committee on Military Nutrition Research (CMNR, the committee) have been supported since 1994 by grant DAMD17-94-J-4046 from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC). This report fulfills the final reporting requirement of the grant, and presents a summary of activities for the grant period from December 1, 1994 through May 31, 1999. During this grant period, the CMNR has met from three to six times each year in response to issues that are brought to the committee through the Military Nutrition and Biochemistry Division of the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine at Natick, Massachusetts, and the Military Operational Medicine Program of USAMRMC at Fort Detrick, Maryland. The CMNR has submitted five workshop reports (plus two preliminary reports), including one that is a joint project with the Subcommittee on Body Composition, Nutrition, and Health of Military Women; three letter reports, and one brief report, all with recommendations, to the Commander, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, since September 1995 and has a brief report currently in preparation. These reports are summarized in the following activity report with synopses of additional topics for which reports were deferred pending completion of military research in progress. This activity report includes as appendixes the conclusions and recommendations from the nine reports and has been prepared in a fashion to allow rapid access to committee recommendations on the topics covered over the time period.

This book was released on 2011 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Cold water immersion (CWI) is commonly used by endurance athletes to speed recovery and maintain performance during subsequent exercise bouts. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of CWI following an acute bout of intense aerobic exercise on 5 km run performance, perceived muscle soreness (PMS) , range of motion (ROM), thigh circumference, and perceived exertion. Nine endurance trained males (35.9 ÷ 7.8 years old) completed 2 trials consisting of 8 repetitions of 1200 m at a running pace equal to 75% ofVO2peak. Following exercise, subjects underwent CWI (12 mm at 12°C) on the lower body or no treatment. A timed 5 km run was completed 24 hr post exercise. No differences were found between 5 km run time for the CWI and control trials. PMS increased significantly from baseline to immediately post exercise (p
