Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic information on petroleum is presented in this book prepared for naval logistics officers. Petroleum in national defense is discussed in connection with consumption statistics, productive capacity, world's resources, and steps in logistics. Chemical and geological analyses are made in efforts to familiarize methods of refining, measuring, sampling, and testing petroleum products. Military specifications are described with a background of property requirements of kerosene, lubricating oils and greases, aviation and automotive gasolines, and jet, diesel, and burner fuels. In quality surveillance, deterioration, contamination, and reclamation aspects are presented in relation to bulk storage facilities; and in safety precautions, hazards, fire, and explosion are mentioned in relation to pipelines, tank cars, tank barges, tank trucks, and, especially tanker operations. Also included are operational procedures at fuel depots. Illustrations for explanation purposes, a glossary of general terms, and a suggested reading list are included.

Alquist and published by . This book was released on 1946 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The knock-limited performance of nine fuels, comprising isolated members of four classes of hydrocarbons, paraffins, cycloparaffins, and olefins), is presented in the form of three-dimensional plots of fuel-air ratio, compression temperature, and compression-air density. The plots are based on a correlation that is shown to apply for these fuels over a wide range of compression that is shown to apply for these fuels over a wide range of compression ratios and inlet-air temperatures. The significance of the term "temperature sensitivity" is sketched, and it is emphasized that no generalized number such as octane number can be applied even to members of a given class of hydrocarbons when broad ranges of engine severity are encountered.

Book Synopsis NACA Wartime Reports. Series E. by : Addison May Rothrock
Download or read book NACA Wartime Reports. Series E. written by Addison May Rothrock and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knock-limit data were recorded for a current 100-octane-number aviation gasoline in a full-scale single-cylinder test engine. Inlet-air temperatures were the temperatures estimated from a consideration of the temperature increase through an aircraft-engine supercharger. Low-speed and high-speed superchargers were considered in making these estimates. A carburetor-mixture-control curve was assumed from which, in conjunction with the knock-limit data, estimates were made of these conditions under which the engine would knock with a current 100-octane fuel at sea-level.
