Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of vitamin E supplementation (400 I.U. d-alpha-tocopherol succinate once/day x 28 days) on subjective ratings of delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) following exhaustive bench stepping exercise. Eleven experimental subjects performed two exercise trials separated by 9 to 11 weeks. Seven subjects took vitamin E supplements while four took a placebo prior to performing the second exercise trial. Subjective soreness ratings were recorded every 8 hours for 72 hours post-exercise. Results failed to show a significant difference in subjective DOMS ratings between the two groups following supplementation. DOMS ratings' were significantly lower for both groups after performing the second exercise trial compared to the first. It was concluded that the decrease in subjective DOMS ratings following the second exercise trial was due to the protective effect of training on the development of DOMS and not supplementation"--Document.
