Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is the effect of carbon black loading on mechanical properties of rubber compound. There are several studies about tensile strength of rubber compund and the results are positive. Rubber blends are used for many reasons such as lowering the compound cost, for easee of fabrication and to improve the performance of the rubber industrial. Study the effect of tensile strength on rubber compound based on filler loading has played important role in contributing the fundamental to formulate the rubber compound and investigate the mechanical effect. The aim of this study is the effect carbon black loading on tensile strength of rubber compound. The previous study was show that the different filler and loading give the different effect reinforcing to rubber compound. The objective in this study is to study the effect of filler loading on the tensile strength of rubber compound. We are using two roll mills in high temperature and at medium speed this is to ensure the rubber mix well with other ingredients. The filler use is carbon black N220 and be tested in three experiment based on the filler loading at 10phr, 30phr and 50phr. The mechanical properties - such as tensile strength properties of the present industrial rubber -were studied. The study also indicated that filler materila affect on the mechanical properties of the blends.

Book excerpt: In this study, effect of carbon black type and content to the electrical property and physical properties of Neoprene rubber as well as aging time at 125°C were studied. High conductivity, low viscosity and long aging time were achieved in the rubber compound containing carbon black with high structure (high DPE), low surface area (low BET) and low critical volume fraction, c even though small amount was added to the rubber compound. These properties of rubber compounds are advantageous for the molding and processing. The rubber compound with CCB0075CB shows the optimum value of conductivity. The change in conductivity of the rubber compound was obviously observed when carbon black content was in the range of 20 to 35 phr. Physical property after aging at 125°C of the rubber compounds filled with CCB0075 at 20 and 30 phr was studied. The density, hardness, tensile strength and conductivity of the rubber compound increased with aging time until day 30-35th and constancy afterward. The result is due to the lost of small volatile molecule from polymer matrix and the carbon black particles are more close to each other. The rubber compound filled with high carbon black loading could be degraded easier than that filled with low loading. The result in this study can be useful in the production of conductive rubber as well as the prediction of their degradation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of Carbon Black fillers loading on the Tensile Strength of Natural rubber (SMR) compound were investigated in this study. In this study, 5 KN forces were used to determine Tensile Strength for each ingredient of Rubber compounds are reinforced with filler such carbon black. In general, Natural Rubber (SMR) prepare in range 10 phr, 30 phr and 50 phr of Carbon Black N220 filler loading. The Natural Rubber (SMR) composition also filled with additives such as stearic acid,CBS, zinc white and antioxidant like Aromatic oil meanwhile vulcanization accelerator, and vulcanizing agent like sulphur after 3 hour cool down under room temperature. After 24 hour cooled under room temperature, molding process should be run. After molding, the sample should be cooled under room temperature around 2 days before tensile process. In generally, the amount of the filler added is around 50 parts by weight per 165 parts by weight of the rubber component based on standard ingredient. When the amount of the filler is less by weight, the reinforcing property is insufficient and the wear resistance is poor, while when it exceeds 200 parts by weight, the tensile Strength really strong and the sample become waste because too hard for processing.

Book excerpt: The effects of filler loading on the tensile and elongation at break of SMR 10 using a sulphur vulcanization system was studied. Carbon black (N220) was used as the fillers and the loading range was from 10 to 40 phr. Two Roll Mill (Model LS-22005) and 25 Ton Hot Cold Molding Press (Model LS22025) used for mixing and molding press. Both equipments were supplied by Lotus Scientific. Tensile and elongation at break were determined using a Universal Testing Machine (Model 133004600771) operating at 20 mm/min. Results show that, elongation at break decreases, but tensile strength, increase with filler loading. This observation is attributed to the rubber-filler interphaseinteraction of carbon black and rubber.

Book excerpt: In this study, the effect of filler loadings (carbon black) on the tensile strength of SMR 10 was investigated. The carbon black grade was chosen N220 and the loading ranges were set 20, 40, 50, and 60 parts per hundred rubbers (phr). For the mixing and moulding process, the Two Roll Mill (Model LS-22005) and 25 Ton Hot Cold Molding Press (Model LS22025) was used which is supplied by Lotus Scientific. In order to determine the tensile strength values, a Universal Testing Machine (Model 133004600771) operating at 20 mm/min was used. It was found that the tensile strength increase with the increasing of carbon black loading until it reaches at the maximum interphase interaction between the polymer chains and filler. This observation is attributed to the rubber-filler interphase interaction of carbon black and rubber.

Many advances have been made in polymer and elastomers research over the past ten years since the 2nd edition was published. Updated material stresses the continuous relationship between the ongoing research in synthesis, physics, structure and mechanics of rubber technology and industrial applications. Special attention is paid to recent advances in rubber-like elasticity theory and new processing techniques for elastomers. This new edition is comprised of 20% new material, including a new chapter on environmental issues and tire recycling.

Book excerpt: This book presents the most recent description of rubber reinforcement, focusing on the network-like structure formation of nanofiller in the rubber matrix under the presence of bound rubber. The resultant filler network is visualized by electron tomography applied to rubber. In the case of natural rubber, the self-reinforcement effect is uniquely functioning, and new template crystallization is suggested. Here, the crystallites are also believed to arrange themselves in a network-like manner. These results are of great use, particularly for engineers, in designing rubber reinforcement.

Book excerpt: Tensile strengths and ultimate elongations of both crystallizing NR and amorphous SBR increase with increasing tensile rate and increasing carbon black N115 loading, although the dependence of N115 loading is at least ten-fold stronger. Previous research has shown that edge-cut specimens of gum NR show an abrupt drop in tensile strength, when tested at 50 mm/min at a critical cut size, because of lack of time to crystallize in bulk. In this thesis, the behavior of critical cut size with respect to tensile rate is completed. Critical cut size increases monotonously, but not linearly, with increasing tensile rate. Changes in precut tensile strength of NR at various tensile rates are measured and compared with those of SBR. Previous research has shown a critical loading of N115 black tested at 50 mm/min, before which precut NR will only be weakened. In this thesis, precut tensile results of NR with various N115 black contents were measured and compared to those of SBR. Only NR shows an critical black loading to reinforce precut specimens and this concentration doesn't change with tensile rate. Reinforcement of precut NR is due to the formation of a rubber/black network. But, reduce tensile rate can decrease the N115 content for reinforcing NR with all possible cut sizes. This is noted as a second turning point of black concentration.

Book excerpt: This handbook provides an introduction to and reference information about the science behind the production and use of particulate fillers in polymer applications. Fillers play an important role and are used with practically all types of polymers: thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers.Readers will find an introduction to the topic of particulate fillers for polymer applications and their importance. The first chapters describe the use and characteristics of fillers in different polymer types, such as thermoplastics, thermosets and elastomers. The following chapters compile and summarize comprehensive information about different filler materials which find application nowadays, including mineral fillers (for example feldspars, wollastonites, and many more) and inorganic fillers (barium sulphate, or clays), bio-fillers, recycled and sustainable fillers, and fillers for specific applications (for example flame-retardant fillers, fillers for electrically conductive applications, or thermally conductive additives).Offering key information, compiled by a mixed team of authors from academia and industry, this handbook will appeal to researchers and professionals working on and with particulate polymer fillers alike.
