Book Synopsis The Effects of Attentional Focus Cues on the Kinematic Characteristics of a Maximal Effort Soccer Kick by : Cory Sims
Download or read book The Effects of Attentional Focus Cues on the Kinematic Characteristics of a Maximal Effort Soccer Kick written by Cory Sims and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the actions performed during soccer, kicking of the ball is the most important and studied skill. In particular, the biomechanical characteristics of the kicking leg and their influence on ball speed have been investigated. However, the impact of attentional focus cues on kicking performance has yet to be examined. The purpose of this study was to investigate if focusing attention externally resulted in better performance on the Loughborough Soccer Shooting (LSST) and increased joint angular velocities compared internal attentional focus or control. A second purpose of the study was to measure participants' focus of attention during practice by use of a questionnaire. To evaluate the effect of attentional focus on LSST performance and kicking mechanics, five male and seven female soccer players (age=16.73±0.90) completed a three-day study. Participants completed 30 trials of the LSST following instructions designed to induce an external focus of attention (EXT), the internal focus of attention (INT), or control (CON). Results showed no significant difference in joint angular velocities at the hip, knee, and ankle between attentional foci. Further, there was no significant difference in the LSST scores between attentional foci. However, EXT and INT resulted in a decreased LSST performance time compared to CON and increased ball velocity with EXT condition compared to CON. Qualitative data showed that participants focused externally in CON, EXT, and INT conditions 39%, 58%, and 31% of the time, respectively. It was concluded that EXT or INT focus instructions are superior to CON directions when performing a maximal effort instep kick.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Learning and Instruction by : Richard E. Mayer
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Learning and Instruction written by Richard E. Mayer and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past 30 years, researchers have made exciting progress in the science of learning (i.e., how people learn) and the science of instruction (i.e., how to help people learn). This second edition of the Handbook of Research on Learning and Instruction is intended to provide an overview of these research advances. With chapters written by leading researchers from around the world, this volume examines learning and instruction in a variety of learning environments including in classrooms and out of classrooms, and with a variety of learners including K-16 students and adult learners. Contributors to this volume demonstrate how and why educational practice should be guided by research evidence concerning what works in instruction. The Handbook is written at a level that is appropriate for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners interested in an evidence-based approach to learning and instruction. The book is divided into two sections: learning and instruction. The learning section consists of chapters on how people learn in reading, writing, mathematics, science, history, second language, and physical education, as well as how people acquire the knowledge and processes required for critical thinking, studying, self-regulation, and motivation. The instruction section consists of chapters on effective instructional methods—feedback, examples, questioning, tutoring, visualizations, simulations, inquiry, discussion, collaboration, peer modeling, and adaptive instruction. Each chapter in this second edition of the Handbook has been thoroughly revised to integrate recent advances in the field of educational psychology. Two chapters have been added to reflect advances in both helping students develop learning strategies and using technology to individualize instruction. As with the first edition, this updated volume showcases the best research being done on learning and instruction by traversing a broad array of academic domains, learning constructs, and instructional methods.

Download or read book Youth Soccer written by Thomas Reilly and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-09-16 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the adult game has increased in popularity, youth soccer has also seen significant expansion in recent years. The popularity of the youth game is set to continue. Young boy and girl players wish to emulate professional soccer stars and the professional game, often with long-term financial rewards in mind, is increasingly keen to develop young talent. Applied sports science is now a well-established feature of the adult game but the sports science that supports modern football does not translate directly into the youth game. The coaches of young players need specific information about children. Themes explored in this text include: growth of physiological systems development of motor and perceptive skills paediatric environmental physiology prevention of injury diet and nutrition youth fitness and skills training effective teaching and coaching of juniors the role of football academies. Youth Soccer: From Science to Performance blends current child-focused sports science theory with youth-specific coaching practice to help create soccer development strategies for children. It promotes knowledge and understanding in all these areas and will further professional expertise amongst coaches who wish to develop the all year round potential of youth soccer players and train the stars of the future.
Book Synopsis Exploring Elite Soccer Players' Attentional Focus in Performance Tasks and Game Situations by : Rafael Alves Ballón Tedesqui
Download or read book Exploring Elite Soccer Players' Attentional Focus in Performance Tasks and Game Situations written by Rafael Alves Ballón Tedesqui and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to investigate elite soccer players' attentional focus during their best performances, better understand the strategies they use to enter or re-enter optimal attentional states, and explore potential attentional differences according to soccer positions, performance tasks, and game situations. No previous studies have explored elite soccer players' attentional skills from a naturalistic and qualitative perspective in such detail. The growing interest in soccer among Canadians provided further justification for this study. Data collection consisted of individual semi-structured interviews with eight elite soccer players from five main soccer positions, namely goalkeeper, defender, wing, midfielder, and forward. Cross-case thematic analysis indicated positive thinking and pre-performance routines as important sources of optimal focus. Attentional focus varied according to soccer positions and performance tasks. Information processing, sport expertise, and attentional systems theoretical frameworks informed the discussion of results. Applied and theoretical implications were drawn and future studies were recommended.
