Book Synopsis Microwave and Radio-Frequency Technologies in Agriculture by : Mohan V. Jacob
Download or read book Microwave and Radio-Frequency Technologies in Agriculture written by Mohan V. Jacob and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-02-22 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity's ability to produce enough food is mostly due to adoption of new methods and technologies by the agricultural industries as they became available. New information, communication and high speed processing and precision agriculture technologies have the potential to transform the agricultural industry. These technologies incorporate radio-frequency and microwave radiation into their systems. This book presents an overview of how these technologies are being used in agricultural systems. The main purpose of the book is to provide a glimpse of what is possible and encourage practitioners in the engineering and agricultural industries to explore how radio-frequency and microwave systems might further enhance the agricultural industry. The authors have extensive experience in agricultural and microwave engineering, instrumentation and communication systems.

Book Synopsis The Liquid State and Its Electrical Properties by : E.E. Kunhardt
Download or read book The Liquid State and Its Electrical Properties written by E.E. Kunhardt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the various disciplines of science advance, they proliferate and tend to become more esoteric. Barriers of specialized terminologies form, which cause scientists to lose contact with their colleagues, and differences in points-of-view emerge which hinder the unification of knowledge among the various disciplines, and even within a given discipline. As a result, the scientist, and especially the student, is in many instances offered fragmented glimpses of subjects that are funda mentally synthetic and that should be treated in their own right. Such seems to be the case of the liquid state. Unlike the other states of matter -- gases, solids, and plasmas -- the liquid state has not yet received unified treatment, probably because it has been the least explored and remains the least understood state of matter. Occasionally, events occur which help remove some of the barriers that separate scientists and disciplines alike. Such an event was the ASI on The Liquid State held this past July at the lovely Hotel Tivoli Sintra, in the picturesque town of Sintra, Portugal, approximately 30 km northwest of Lisbon. Since this broad a subject could not be covered in one Institute, the focus of the ASI was on a theme that provided a common thread of understanding for all in attendance -- the Electrical Proper ties of the Liquid State.

Book excerpt: vi the information collected and discussed in this volume may help toward the achievement of such an objective. I should like to express my debt of gratitude to the authors who have contributed to this volume. Editing a work of this nature can strain long established personal relationships and I thank my various colleagues for bearing with me and responding (sooner or later) to one or several letters or telephone calls. My special thanks once again go to Mrs. Joyce Johnson, who bore the main brunt of this seemingly endless correspondence and without whose help the editorial and referencing work would have taken several years. Book Synopsis Surface Diagnostics in Tribology by : Kazuhisa Miyoshi
Download or read book Surface Diagnostics in Tribology written by Kazuhisa Miyoshi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides final year undergraduate students, graduate students, research scientists and engineers with an up-to-date overview of the power of using surface analytical techniques for probing complex solid surfaces and lubricants as well as for understanding their interactions in tribological systems. The first three introductory chapters illustrate the need for surface analysis in tribology and the essentials of the analytical techniques. Following these, eight chapters on applications give insight into the contribution of the major analytical techniques to tribology. These chapters are divided into three groups. The first group deals with the applications of surface analytical techniques to the study of the adhesion, friction, deformation, wear, structure and chemistry of solid surfaces at the atomic scale or in well-defined conditions. The second group focuses mainly on solid lubricants and tribological surface modifications. Lastly, the third group covers liquid lubricants in molecularly thin-film lubrication and in boundary lubrication and their interactions with surfaces.
