Book Synopsis Value Distribution Theory of the Gauss Map of Minimal Surfaces in Rm by : Hirotaka Fujimoto
Download or read book Value Distribution Theory of the Gauss Map of Minimal Surfaces in Rm written by Hirotaka Fujimoto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in a systematic and almost self-contained way the striking analogy between classical function theory, in particular the value distribution theory of holomorphic curves in projective space, on the one hand, and important and beautiful properties of the Gauss map of minimal surfaces on the other hand. Both theories are developed in the text, including many results of recent research. The relations and analogies between them become completely clear. The book is written for interested graduate students and mathematicians, who want to become more familiar with this modern development in the two classical areas of mathematics, but also for those, who intend to do further research on minimal surfaces.

Book Synopsis Equivariant $E$-Theory for $C^*$-Algebras by : Erik Guentner
Download or read book Equivariant $E$-Theory for $C^*$-Algebras written by Erik Guentner and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title examines the equivariant e-theory for c*-algebra, focusing on research carried out by Higson and Kasparov. Let A and B be C*-algebras which are equipped with continuous actions of a second countable, locally compact group G. We define a notion of equivariant asymptotic morphism, and use it to define equivariant E-theory groups EULG(A, B) which generalize the E-theory groups of Connes and Higson. We develop the basic properties of equivariant E-theory, including a composition product and six-term exact sequences in both variables, and apply our theory to the problem of calculating K-theory for group C*-algebras. Our main theorem gives a simple criterion for the assembly map of Baum and Connes to be an isomorphism. The result plays an important role in the work of Higson and Kasparov on the Bau m-Connes conjecture for groups which act isometrically and metrically properly on Hilbert space
Book Synopsis Asymptotics for Solutions of Linear Differential Equations Having Turning Points with Applications by : Shlomo Strelitz
Download or read book Asymptotics for Solutions of Linear Differential Equations Having Turning Points with Applications written by Shlomo Strelitz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asymptotics are built for the solutions $y_j(x, \lambda)$, $y_j DEGREES{(k)}(0, \lambda)=\delta_{j\, n-k}$, $0\le j, k+1\le n$ of the equation $L(y)=\lambda p(x)y, \quad x\in [0,1], $ where $L(y)$ is a linear differential operator of whatever order $n\ge 2$ and $p(x)$ is assumed to possess a finite number of turning points. The established asymptotics are afterwards applied to the study of: 1) the existence of infinite eigenvalue sequences for various multipoint boundary problems posed on $L(y)=\lambda p(x)y, \quad x\in [0,1], $, especially as $n=2$ and $n=3$ (let us be aware that the same method can be successfully applied on many occasions in case $n>3$ too) and 2) asymptotical distribution of the corresponding eigenvalue sequences on the

Book Synopsis Quantum Linear Groups and Representations of $GL_n({\mathbb F}_q)$ by : Jonathan Brundan
Download or read book Quantum Linear Groups and Representations of $GL_n({\mathbb F}_q)$ written by Jonathan Brundan and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We give a self-contained account of the results originating in the work of James and the second author in the 1980s relating the representation theory of GL[n(F[q) over fields of characteristic coprime to q to the representation theory of "quantum GL[n" at roots of unity. The new treatment allows us to extend the theory in several directions. First, we prove a precise functorial connection between the operations of tensor product in quantum GL[n and Harish-Chandra induction in finite GL[n. This allows us to obtain a version of the recent Morita theorem of Cline, Parshall and Scott valid in addition for p-singular classes. From that we obtain simplified treatments of various basic known facts, such as the computation of decomposition numbers and blocks of GL[n(F[q) from knowledge of the same for the quantum group, and the non-defining analogue of Steinberg's tensor product theorem. We also easily obtain a new double centralizer property between GL[n(F[[q) and quantum GL[n, generalizing a result of Takeuchi. Finally, we apply the theory to study the affine general linear group, following ideas of Zelevinsky in characteristic zero. We prove results that can be regarded as the modular analogues of Zelevinsky's and Thoma's branching rules. Using these, we obtain a new dimension formula for the irreducible cross-characteristic representations of GL[n(F[q), expressing their dimensions in terms of the characters of irreducible modules over the quantum group.
Book Synopsis Layer Potentials, the Hodge Laplacian, and Global Boundary Problems in Nonsmooth Riemannian Manifolds by : Dorina Mitrea
Download or read book Layer Potentials, the Hodge Laplacian, and Global Boundary Problems in Nonsmooth Riemannian Manifolds written by Dorina Mitrea and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general aim of the present monograph is to study boundary-value problems for second-order elliptic operators in Lipschitz sub domains of Riemannian manifolds. In the first part (ss1-4), we develop a theory for Cauchy type operators on Lipschitz submanifolds of co dimension one (focused on boundedness properties and jump relations) and solve the $Lp$-Dirichlet problem, with $p$ close to $2$, for general second-order strongly elliptic systems. The solution is represented in the form of layer potentials and optimal non tangential maximal function estimates are established. This analysis is carried out under smoothness assumptions (for the coefficients of the operator, metric tensor and the underlying domain) which are in the nature of best possible. In the second part of the monograph, ss5-13, we further specialize this discussion to the case of Hodge Laplacian $\Delta: =-d\delta-\delta d$. This time, the goal is to identify all (pairs of) natural boundary conditions of Neumann type. Owing to the structural richness of the higher degree case we are considering, the theory developed here encompasses in a unitary fashion many basic PDE's of mathematical physics. Its scope extends to also cover Maxwell's equations, dealt with separately in s14. The main tools are those of PDE's and harmonic analysis, occasionally supplemented with some basic facts from algebraic topology and differential geometry.
