The stories take place on the east and west coasts of the United States, the Hawiian Islands, the Filipino Islands, and the now nonexistent South Vietnam and finally end up where it all started, in Southeast Iowa. The topics range from stories about inmates, stories about women, and the most preferred subject of all, fishing. The author's mentality in writing these stories was to crowd the element of humor and to take the best out of each day no matter what the day may have had to offer. So make it a better day, and enjoy reading

Download or read book The Rotary Jail written by W.C. Madden and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2017-06-14 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rotary jail was a very unusual architectural design. In response to a need for better control over prisoners, 18 of the revolving, escape-proof structures were erected in the United States from 1882 through 1889. There were problems. There were mechanical difficulties due to the extreme weight of the components. Unwary prisoners lost digits or limbs when carousels were rotated without warning--one lost his life. Because inmates could only be let out of their cells one at a time, some rotary jails were closed as fire hazards. This book describes in detail their construction, operation and eventual demise, as well as some of the colorful inmates that were held in them.

With inspiration and practical advice from members of Alcoholics Anonymous, this is a book that can save lives. “A brave and powerful work for anyone who cares about people, who desires to be more knowledgeable about human behavior.” —Leo Buscaglia, author of Living, Loving, and Learning “Should be required reading in every school system in America . . . If there’s an alcoholic in your life, one of the best investments you can make is this book.” —Detroit Free Press
Book Synopsis The Sheep and the Guardians by : Ahmed Amr
Download or read book The Sheep and the Guardians written by Ahmed Amr and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2009-06-04 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of the Madoff scandal, this compelling tale is a searing indictment of the SEC and FINRA regulators who allowed market manipulation and outright larceny to infest America's capital markets. Against a backdrop of a traumatic financial meltdown, a few tenacious Pro Se litigants drop in uninvited on the unfamiliar turf of a dysfunctional Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware. Follow the author as he navigates an unchartered path through a financial and legal wilderness inhabited by Taiwanese syndicates, Greenwich hedge funds, Fifth Avenue bankruptcy lawyers and complicit regulators. Along the way he is embraced by comrades who join him as he traverses the peaks and valleys of this improbable journey. This quixotic account of how this 'band of brothers' fought the good fight against the cabal of crooks that ripped them off reads like a John Grisham novel. For some great court room drama, this book is a must read. As you turn the pages, you will be astounded by the financial outrages that go unchallenged by our delinquent regulators and the permissive judiciary that allows corporate swindlers to cover up fraud by declaring bankruptcy.
Book Synopsis The Sacrifice of Lester Yates by : Robin Yocum
Download or read book The Sacrifice of Lester Yates written by Robin Yocum and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new political thriller from the author of bestselling novel The Essay. Lester Yates is the notorious Egypt Valley Strangler, one of the country’s most prolific serial killers. Or, is he? Yates is two months from his date with the executioner when Ohio Attorney General Hutch Van Buren is presented with evidence that could exonerate him. But Yates is a political pawn, and forces exist that don’t want him exonerated, regardless of the evidence. To do so could derail presidential aspirations and change the national political landscape. Yates’ execution will clear a wide political path for many influential people, including Van Buren, who must battle both the clock and a political machine of which he is a part. Robin Yocum has been compared with E. Annie Proulx for his authenticity of place, and Elmore Leonard for his well-laid plots and perfect pacing. Arcade is thrilled to publish The Sacrifice of Lester Yates, which is Yocum at his best: suspenseful, political, and smart.
