Empirical models are not universal, nor are the regression-based models. The numerical models are, on the other hand, physics-based but require substantial data measurement and parameter estimation. Hence, there is a need to employ models that are robust, user-friendly, practical and do not have the shortcomings of the existing methods. Artificial intelligence methods in this regard are the ones that meet this need. This book introduces the basics of artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms with illustrative examples. The applications of the artificial intelligence methods include, but not limited to, prediction of flood peaks, hydrographs, sedimentographs, seepage path, longitudinal dispersion coefficient in alluvial channels, mean and bankful discharge. The comparative analysis of the artificial intelligence methods against contemporary empirical, numerical, regression ones are also provided in the book.The target audiences for this book are graduate students, researchers, scientists and faculty members. However, the book can also be used as one of the core textbooks for undergraduate students.

The book not only examines the "Küçükcekmece Ayazma-Tepeüstü Urban Regeneration" project, but it also gives a clear account of the positive and negative aspects of the process.To date, especially in the western world, a large number of scientifically significant books have been released on some such initiatives (mainly in the UK), yet there has been no widely disseminated volume on Turkey's approach and project building methodologies. Unlike in the Western world, in Turkey, urban regeneration is a means to overcome the challenges created by the growth of unauthorized housing. In the case of Turkey this publication will serve as a step in developing more publications, as well as present the reader with an example for comparison.The authors prepared the book in order to bring into public view the "Küçükcekmece Ayazma-Tepeüstü Urban Regeneration Project" and all its associated dynamics. The project has been under way since 2004 and is the first project in Turkey with well adjusted social projects implemented in parallel. The Ayazma-Tepeüstü region is historically a location of unplanned/illegal settlements,. Unlike a standard project, this initiative was embarked on with a genuine academic enthusiasm and an investigative perspective, making it valuable to share publicly all phases, timelines and current achievements.

Conventional studies of economic organization have tended to center on markets and hierarchies, the two forms of organization most common in the West. But today the world moves too quickly and too unpredictably for the idealized organizations of microeconomic theory to keep up. It is no accident that the region that has generated the world's most explosive economic growth is also the region where network organizations--sets of independent actors who cooperate frequently for mutual advantage--are most pervasive. Rapid economic, social, and technical changes favor the formation of network organizations, and vice versa.
