Book Synopsis The Cosmic Pilgrim by : Margaret MacIntyre
Download or read book The Cosmic Pilgrim written by Margaret MacIntyre and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cosmic Pilgrim is an introduction to the world of eco-theology. Based on the vision of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, it describes the nature of reality in our Cosmos that is continually unfolding within our expanding consciousness, and the journey, the pilgrimage, of the universe through space and time toward its consummate destiny within the fullness of God. This radical, evolutionary perspective is part of the new story of science and religion. Mathematical cosmologist and visionary Brian Swimme is the chosen guide to this new cosmology, and his insights form the continuing thread of the book. His mentor, Thomas Berry, is well represented here, as are other great thinkers from the realms of science and theology: Jurgen Moltmann, Alfred North Whitehead, C. S. Lewis, John Polkinghorne, and John Haught. The Cosmic Pilgrim presents a personal, easy-to-grasp map of the current interface between ecology, religion, and science. It aims to develop a spirituality that is grounded in the present struggle of moving beyond our Earth-damaging, industrial mindset toward a higher vision of vibrant planetary community. At the same time it seeks out the wider horizon of ultimate meaning and ponders the mystery of the far future and our cosmic destiny. Although the book reflects the author's Christian background, it is nonsectarian in approach and could be enjoyed by any seeker interested in developing a "green" spirituality.

Book Synopsis The Spiritual Origins of Eastern Europe by : Sergei O. Prokofieff
Download or read book The Spiritual Origins of Eastern Europe written by Sergei O. Prokofieff and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2016-03-21 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘And however paradoxical it may seem today, the “Grail mood” is in the fullest sense to be found in Russia. And the future role that Russia will play in the sixth post-Atlantean epoch... rests firmly upon this unconquerable “Grail mood” in the Russian people.’ – Rudolf Steiner Although Eastern Europe has been part of the Christian world for more than a thousand years, its spiritual identity remains a mystery. This mystery, says Sergei Prokofieff, can only fully be solved by looking behind external events and seeking spiritual – meta-historical – dimensions of reality. In illuminating the maya of outer history, Prokofieff reveals the forces that have been at work to hinder the progress of mankind: the materialistic Brotherhoods of the West and the occult aspects of both Jesuitism and Bolshevism. These adversary groups have created a ‘karma of materialism’, that the eastern Slavic peoples have taken upon themselves out of their ‘exalted willingness for sacrifice’. Prokofieff shows how, from the earliest times, the future ‘conscience of humanity’ flowed from hidden mystery centres in Hibernia, to the eastern Slavic peoples. As a result, qualities of ‘compassion, patience and willingness for sacrifice’ developed in their souls, creating a truly Christian ‘Grail mood’. Despite incalculable suffering – from the persecutions of the Mongol hordes to the Bolshevik experiment of the last century – this quality has become an unconquerable force. Will humanity be able to use the present opportunity granted by this sacrifice to fulfil the primary purposes of the present cultural epoch? Can the future mysteries of the Holy Grail be fulfilled? In this momentous work, breathtaking in its scope and detail, the author attempts a truly esoteric approach, penetrating to the spiritual wellsprings of Eastern Europe in the light of Rudolf Steiner’s research.

Download or read book The Sioux written by Royal B. Hassrick and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many people the Sioux, as warriors and as buffalo hunters, have become the symbol of all that is Indian colorful figures endowed with great fortitude and powerful vision. They were the heroes of the Great Plains, and they were the villains, too. Royal B. Hassrick here attempts to describe the ways of the people, the patterns of their behavior, and the concepts of their imagination. Uniquely, he has approached the subject from the Sioux's own point of view, giving their own interpretation of their world in the era of its greatest vigor and renown –the brief span of years from about 1830 to 1870. In addition to printed sources, the author has drawn from the observation and records of a number of Sioux who were still living when this book was projected, and were anxious to serve as links to the vanished world of their forebears. Because it is true that men become in great measure what they think and want themselves to be, it is important to gain this insight into Sioux thought of a century ago. Apparently, the most significant theme in their universe was that man was a minute but integral part of that universe. The dual themes of self-expression and self-denial reached through their lives, helping to explain their utter defeat soon after the Battle of the Little Big Horn. When the opportunity to resolve the conflict with the white man in their own way was lost, their very reason for living was lost, too. There are chapters on the family and the sexes, fun, the scheme of war, production, the structure of the nation, the way to status, and other aspects of Sioux life.
