Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2nd Edition. Updated and easier to use! We are continually subjected to outrageous ads like: "Lose 18 lbs in 3 weeks!" And implying that this applies to everyone. Really - what nonsense! Researchers have long known that weight change in humans depends on age, gender, height, weight, activity, caloric intake and time on a diet, but an equation that predicted weight change in humans had never been developed. Most scientists also agreed that weight loss was governed by the first law of thermodynamics. Then fitness enthusiast Dr. Vincent Antonetti, an engineer and an expert in thermodynamics and computer science, reasoned that by applying the first law of thermodynamics to humans it should be possible to do an analysis of weight change in human beings. Professor Antonetti's goal was to develop an equation that predicted weight change in humans. The first part of this book traces, in easy-to-understand language, his fascinating journey toward that goal. At the time, he was managing an engineering group at IBM. So he worked early mornings and evenings on the new equation. It took him two years to develop and verify the first and only weight change predictive equation. His results were published in a paper entitled, "The equations Governing Weight Change in Human Beings," in the prestigious American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. But Dr. Antonetti went a step further. He used a computer to produce easy-to-use tables which provided diet options for a personalized weight loss or maintenance program. The tables, coupled with sound diet information, were the basis for the original Computer Diet. At the urging of the editors at NoPaperPress he wrote an updated version: The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition. The original Computer diet was critically acclaimed by Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Consumer Union magazine, etc., but we think this book is even better. The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition is serious business. It's a sensible, healthy, well-balanced plan that your physician will approve of. It will be as valid years from now as it is today, because The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition is a classic - and timeless. CONTENTS 1. Book excerpt: We all know someone who needs a digital diet. Technology has overwhelmed our daily lives to the point of constant distraction. Many of us can no longer focus on a single task or face-to-face conversation without wanting to reach out—or retreat—to the virtual world every few minutes. Science and technology reporter and recovering digital addict Daniel Sieberg has devised a foolproof 4-step plan to help you regain control, focus, and true connection in your life. Step 1//Re: Think: Consider how technology has overwhelmed our society and the effect it’s had on your physical, mental, and emotional health. Step 2//Re: Boot: Take stock of your digital intake using Sieberg’s Virtual Weight Index and step back from the device. Step 3//Re: Connect: Focus on restoring the relationships that have been harmed by the technology in your life. Step 4//Re: Vitalize: Learn how to live with technology—the healthy way, by optimizing your time spent e-mailing, texting, on Facebook, and web surfing. This program will enable families to communicate better, employees to be more productive, and friends to stay in touch. Sieberg teaches us how to manage and use the technology in our lives to our advantage, without letting it control us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By reading this book, you are already taking the first step in the right direction! You have realized it may be time for a diet, but does a diet have to eliminate all the foods you love or inhibit all your social or family activities that often center around dinner, coffee, or drinks? Life can be complex, busy, and full of challenges that never get any easier. Weight gain also is part of aging and plays a big role in our physical and mental health; yet many of us don’t know where to turn to learn how to diet and exercise. But does a diet have to be that complex? This book provides a short and simple explanation on how and why the body stores fat, dispels misconceptions, and provides strategies for dieting and exercise. The Protein-To-Calorie Ratio (“PC Score”) provides an easy way for you to make healthy choices in your diet to more quickly reach your weight-loss goals. As a physician, I never imagined what a big role diet and nutrition would play in my medical practice, but it’s a topic that comes up with most of my patients, regardless of their presenting problem. That’s because diet and nutrition really can influence most disease states. Over the years, I have counseled my patients, family, friends, and colleagues on weight loss, but it wasn’t until I found myself needing to lose weight and searching for a diet that fit into my life and my family activities that motivated me to create a diet that was simple, flexible, AND effective! What was even more rewarding was sharing The PC Diet with my patients and receiving positive feedback. Most memorable, was seeing a 300+ pound man come in 6 months after I briefly discussed The PC Diet with him, have him pull down his suspenders, and pull his pants a good foot away from his belly and say, “Hey doc, I followed your diet, what do you think?” The PC Diet is designed to fit into your life, not a diet that controls your life. Let’s get to work, and all it takes is a quick read of this book. Now grab a copy of this book and replace 15 minutes of social media with something that can change your life! YOU’VE GOT THIS!!

Not eating, but gorging on information ceaselessly spewed from the screens and speakers we hold dear. Just as we have grown morbidly obese on sugar, fat, and flour--so, too, have we become gluttons for texts, instant messages, emails, RSS feeds, downloads, videos, status updates, and tweets. We're all battling a storm of distractions, buffeted with notifications and tempted by tasty tidbits of information. And just as too much junk food can lead to obesity, too much junk information can lead to cluelessness."--Publisher's blurb.

Book excerpt: A paradigm-shifting diet book that explains why one-size-fits-all diets don't work and helps readers customize their diet to lose weight and improve health. There are certain things we take as universal truths when it comes to dieting and health: kale is good; ice cream is bad. Until now. When Drs. Segal and Elinav published their groundbreaking research on personalized nutrition, it created a media frenzy. They had proved that individuals react differently to the same foods-a food that might be healthy for one person is unhealthy for another. In one stroke, they made all universal diet programs obsolete. The Personalized Diet helps readers understand the fascinating science behind their work, gives them the tools to create an individualized diet and lifestyle plan (based on their reactions to favorite foods) and puts them on the path to losing weight, feeling good, and preventing disease by eating in the way that's right for them.

Does losing weight and staying healthy feel like a battle? Well, it’s really a war. Your enemies are your own genes, backed by millions of years of evolution, and the only way to win is to outsmart them. Dr. Steven Gundry’s revolutionary book shares the health secrets other doctors won’t tell you: • Why plants are “good” for you because they’re “bad” for you, and meat is “bad” because it’s “good” for you • Why plateauing on this diet is actually a sign that you’re on the right track • Why artificial sweeteners have the same effects as sugar on your health and your waistline • Why taking antacids, statins, and drugs for high blood pressure and arthritis masks health issues instead of addressing them Along with the meal planner, 70 delicious recipes, and inspirational stories, Dr. Gundry’s easy-to-memorize tips will keep you healthy and on course.
