Now you can hear the sounds and see the sights, meet the people who were there when it happened. This comprehensive account from the legendary Jewish historian takes you right into the action, setting up the historical relevance of first-century events, taking you all the way from Creation to Roman occupation. In the process, Josephus provides substantial first-hand corroboration of the biblical record. Most importantly, you'll meet the historical Jesus in Josephus' writings, as well as John the Baptist and other familiar faces. You'll be able to understand the background of the Bible like never before.

Written in a clear and straightforward style, Josephus provides detailed accounts of important events such as the Jewish War and the Antiquities of the Jews, offering a valuable historical perspective on the period. Josephus's literary style is marked by his ability to blend historical fact with personal anecdotes, making his works engaging and informative. His intimate knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions permeates throughout the text, offering readers a unique glimpse into the world of first-century Judea. Flavius Josephus, a Jewish historian and scholar, wrote The Complete Works as a means of preserving the history and traditions of his people amidst the tumultuous political landscape of his time. His firsthand experiences and extensive research serve as the foundation for the comprehensive and authoritative nature of his works. Download or read book The Life of Flavius Josephus written by Flavius Josephus and published by The Floating Press. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The autobiographical text The Life of Josephus is a text written by Flavius Josephus around 94 to 99 BC. The commander of a Jewish insurgency who was captured by the Roman in 67 BC he won his liberty by ingratiating himself with the Roman victors. The Life of Josephus is both a retelling of the events of this War and a justification by Josephus of his part in it. His position with his Roman and Jewish contemporaries and even now with modern day scholars is ambiguous. Many question his decision to eschew suicide in favour of capture. The works of Josephus have been pivotal in gaining an understanding of the period of the First Jewish-Roman War, The Dead Sea Scrolls and other Archaeological discoveries.

Book Synopsis The Jewish Wars by : Flavius Josephus
Download or read book The Jewish Wars written by Flavius Josephus and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jewish War is a history book by Flavius Josephus about Jewish–Roman wars. Divided into seven books, it opens with a summary of Jewish history from the capture of Jerusalem by the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes in 164 BC to the first stages of the First Jewish–Roman War (Book I and II). The next five books detail the unfolding of the war, under Roman generals Vespasian and Titus, to the death of the last Sicarii. Titus Flavius Josephus was a first-century Romano-Jewish scholar, historian and hagiographer, who was born in Jerusalem—then part of Roman Judea—to a father of priestly descent and a mother who claimed royal ancestry. He initially fought against the Romans during the First Jewish–Roman War as head of Jewish forces in Galilee, until surrendering in 67 CE to Roman forces led by Vespasian after the six-week siege of Jotapata. After Vespasian became Emperor in 69 CE, he granted Josephus his freedom, at which time Josephus assumed the emperor's family name of Flavius. He fully defected to the Roman side and was granted Roman citizenship. Josephus recorded Jewish history, with special emphasis on the first century CE and the First Jewish–Roman War, including the Siege of Masada. His most important works were The Jewish War (c. 75) and Antiquities of the Jews (c. 94).
