Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the original book by John Lockard, which has been edited to bring it in line with modern standards to provide an enjoyable and engaging account as set out by John Lockard. Complete with illustrations to bring the ideas on the page to life in full colour. This book is intended for both the beginners and the seasoned pros, and for those who are just curious to find out about this interesting and rather unusual pastime. No specific background knowledge is required as John explains all in this complete guide. Complete with interesting facts about bees and honey, this is just the tip of the ice berg on a subject of fascination throughout time, who would have thought bees and the art of beekeeping could be so interesting. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I had fun putting it together. I was born in a little valley, hemmed in by mountains running north and south on either side. It varies in width from one to three miles from the foot of one range to the other. From my home I have a clear view of these beautiful Mountains and, as these mountains and lowlands teemed with game of all kind, and being heavily timbered, made an ideal location for the home of the wild bee. From early youth I loved to lure the wild turkey, stalk the deer and line the bee to his home. Is it any wonder that after forty years of undiminished passion for sports of this kind that I can truthfully say there is scarcely a square rod of these mountains that is not indelibly impressed on my mind in connection with some of the above mentioned sports or pastimes? I will confine myself in this work to the subject of Bee Hunting, believing it to be one of the most fascinating and beneficial of pastimes. Honey hunting or Honey harvesting is the gathering of honey from wild bee colonies and is one of the most ancient human activities and is still practiced by aboriginal societies in parts of Africa, Asia, Australia and South America. Some of the earliest evidence of gathering honey from wild colonies is from rock painting, dating to around 8,000 BC. Gathering honey from wild bee colonies is usually done by subduing the bees with smoke and breaking open the tree or rocks where the colony is located, often resulting in the physical destruction of the colony. A great book on bee hunting which deals with bee keeping from a very basic level without complicated beekeeping equipment and the minimum of beekeeping supplies. One of the best beekeeping courses found online, great guide for bee keepers of all levels, an ultimate beekeeping starter kit for the novice and the pro. Welcome to the bees nest, a beekeeping for beginners manuals will have you flying through the beehives as you will quickly learn how to build a beehive and eventually in a position to offer honey bees for sale if you so choose. Full of interesting bee facts. Website: Available on Amazon British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) www.bbka.org.uk/ twitter - @RiseofDouai

Book excerpt: This essential guide to beekeeping will introduce you, in a simple and effective way, to all the various steps you need to take in order to generate your beehives and make them prosper. One of the most common mistakes among beginners is to think that all bees are capable of producing honey. You need to know that there exist more than 20.000 species of bees, but only a small part of those can actually produce honey! It is then important to understand which kind of bee to raise to be able to produce good honey, pollen, propolis and royal jelly. There currently are many references about the beneficial properties of honey for our health, and there are also many studies dedicated to these. Obviously, in order to enjoy all the benefits provided by honey, you need to prefer the raw one, the one that has not undergone industrial processing. In fact, such processes deprive it from many of its useful nutrients, impoverishing its quality and reducing its effectiveness. From picking the right hive and bringing your bees home to surviving winter and collecting honey, experienced beekeeper Amanda Ross takes you on an easy-to-follow journey through your first year of beekeeping and beyond. Beekeeping for beginners includes: Just the essentials―Learn everything you need to know to begin your first colony―written with brand new beekeepers in mind. Modern beekeeping―Start your colony off right with guides that feature the newest practices and current, natural approaches. Learn to speak the bee language―Clearly defined terms and a complete glossary will have you talking like a pro beekeeper in no time. The following are just some of the great benefits and properties of natural raw honey: It is very rich in antioxidants; It can counteract bacterial proliferation; It has anti-inflammatory properties; It is effective in the treatment of cough; It is an excellent source of energy, and also a healthier sweetener compared to to normal sugar. Honey can even help healing wounds! Isn't it amazing? It is in fact being proved that the application of the substance on wounds can stimulate the healing process and helps with tissue regeneration; it also helps to prevent infections and reduce inflammations. So, wouldn't it be great to have healthy hives in your backyard and a good supply of honey at your disposal? Thanks to this book you will learn: How to start beekeeping even if you are an absolute beginner; The structure of a hive; Everything you need to know about bees (honey bees, bee society, anatomy...); How to select the best location, and position the new bee colonies for both their safety and yours; Which tools you need to have; How to set up and take care of your colonies; The honey-bee reproduction; How to feed bees with nectar, pollen and honey substitutes; How to solve problems related to beekeeping; How to keep hives healthy; How to enjoy rich honey production, how to harvest it, store it, and which are the other beehive products you can enjoy;

You get a book full of fun and fascinating facts on bumblebees, honeybees, worker bees, and the rest of our favorite pollinators. A bee swarm of trivia, tips, legend, and lore. Writer and beekeeper Jack Mingo lives with half a million bees. So, it's safe to say he's picked up a thing or two at his bee farm. And these are just some of the reasons bees make the best pets. Whether you're flirting with beekeeping, looking to save the bees, or growing into your role as reigning queen bee, there's something new to learn.
