This second book describes in vivid detail what may have occurred in the United States Military under the Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Harison, McKinley and Roosevelt Presidential administrations. The narration is by the son of a career naval officer, born in Beaufort, South Carolina. He will also serve in the Army Navy Building and the White House, Washington D.C. The historical events of 1877 through 1913 are carefully followed. The imagination of the author provides rich characters in powerful settings from the harbors of Alaska to the ports of the Balkan countries just prior to World War I. The time old love story between a man and a woman is woven throughout the book when the naval officer, marries the daughter of a general. They have four children, the oldest girl becomes a college professor, the oldest son enters the US Naval Academy, like his father and grandfather. The twins, a boy and a girl graduate from William and Mary and go on to law school in Washington D. C. Scenes are set carefully with attention to accurate research of the low country of South Carolina as well as our Nation's Capital circa 1877- 1913. The People's Standard History of the United States written by Edward S. Ellis and published in 1895 by Western Book Syndicate and copyrighted by the Woolfall Company have provided background materials, maps of the period and needed information on how the federal government was organized and functioned during this period of history.

Book excerpt: “I always hoped [Mary Williams] would tell her incredible story. She's a writer of uncommon clarity and humor, and the arrival of her memoir is cause for celebration." —Dave Eggers, author of What is the What As she grew up in 1970s Oakland, California, role models for Mary Williams were few and far between: her father was often in prison, her older sister was a teenage prostitute, and her hot-tempered mother struggled to raise six children alone. For all Mary knew, she was heading down a similar path. But her life changed when she met Jane Fonda at summer camp in 1978. Fonda grew attached to the bright girl and eventually invited her to become part of her family, becoming the mother Mary never had. Mary’s life since has been one of adventure and opportunity—from hiking the Appalachian Trail solo, working with the Lost Boys of Sudan, and living in the frozen reaches of Antarctica. Her most courageous trip, though, involved returning to Oakland and reconnecting with her biological mother and family, many of whom she hadn’t seen since the day she left home. The Lost Daughter is a chronicle of her journey back in time, an exploration of fractured family bonds, and a moving epic of self-discovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “[A] splendid collection . . . By turns wry, tender, pointed, and laugh-out-loud funny.” —Publishers Weekly “Untangles the many truths about hair, and the lives we lead underneath it.” —Pamela Druckerman, author of Bringing Up Bébé Ask a woman about her hair, and she just might tell you the story of her life. Ask a whole bunch of women about their hair, and you could get a history of the world. Surprising, insightful, frequently funny, and always forthright, the essays in Me, My Hair, and I are reflections and revelations about every aspect of women’s lives from family, race, religion, and motherhood to culture, health, politics, and sexuality. They take place in African American kitchens, at Hindu Bengali weddings, and inside Hasidic Jewish homes. The conversation is intimate and global at once. Layered into these reminiscences are tributes to influences throughout history: Jackie Kennedy, Lena Horne, Farrah Fawcett, the Grateful Dead, and Botticelli’s Venus. The long and the short of it is that our hair is our glory—and our nemesis, our history, our self-esteem, our joy, our mortality. Every woman knows that many things in life matter more than hair, but few bring as much pleasure as a really great hairdo.

Book excerpt: While the Naval Biography of England and the other great maritime powers has been written by the ablest authors, and published with every aid of embellishment and typographical elegance, that of the United States has hitherto been permitted to remain mostly unwritten; or has only presented itself to public notice in the fugitive form of magazine or newspaper articles. It is not to be denied, however, that some of the lives which have appeared in this form were furnished by the ablest writers in the country, and derive their authority from original documents, letters, and personal narratives. From the materials for an American Naval Biography thus furnished, in addition to other original materials politely furnished by surviving naval officers, or the families of those who are deceased, the following work is composed. Contents: Alexander Murray Charles Stewart David Porter Edward Preble Isaac Hull Jacob Jones James Biddle James Lawrence John Barry John Paul Jones Johnston Blakeley Joshua Barney Nicholas Biddle Oliver H. Perry Richard Dale Stephen Decatur Thomas Macdonough Thomas Truxtun William Henry Allen William Bainbridge

Although her high school years were quite memorable, there is one moment in time that stands out more than others. Melissa and three of her closest friends often find themselves hanging out at night clubs. The fact that it was usually on school nights didn't matter much to them. But, on one night in particular, they return to the Club after having left already and this one decision changes Melissa’s life forever. Because of her troubled past, she struggles in relationships with men. But just when she thinks she has it all figured out, an accusation of infidelity causes her to question herself even more. She doesn’t know what to do about it nor does she know where to turn for advice. Melissa’s faith in God is put to the test when that accusation forces her to deal with a seemingly corrupted legal system in Florida. Just like many of us, Melissa wants to do the right things and make better choices, but she keeps finding herself going around in circles and ending up with the same results. Although she is somewhat limited, she doesn’t limit herself to other possibilities of happiness. Will she choose the path of least resistance or will she continue on a path that keeps her torn and caught in the middle? After reading this book, you will begin to look at your own life's struggles in the same way that Melissa had to eventually do. Although Melissa's decisions may not have all worked in her favor at the time, she learned how to depend on the people that God placed in her path.

Sandra O’Toole is the president of the Outer Alliance, which stretches from the asteroid belt to the Oort Cloud beyond Pluto. Resurrected following the death of Justin Cord, the unincorporated man, O’Toole has become a powerful political figure and a Machiavellian leader determined to win the civil war against the inner planets at almost any cost. But the war has been going badly, in part because of the great General Trang, a fit opponent for the brilliant J. D. Black. Choices have to be made to abandon some of the moral principles upon which the revolution was founded. It is a time of great heroism and great betrayal, madness, sacrifice, and shocking military conflict. Nothing is predictable, even the behavior of artificial intelligences. There may be only one way out, but it is not surrender.
