Book Synopsis Descendants of William Cromartie and Ruhamah Doane and Related Families by : Amanda Cook Gilbert
Download or read book Descendants of William Cromartie and Ruhamah Doane and Related Families written by Amanda Cook Gilbert and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious work chronicles 250 years of the Cromartie family genealogical history. Included in the index of nearly fifty thousand names are the current generations, and all of those preceding, which trace ancestry to our family patriarch, William Cromartie, who was born in 1731 in Orkney, Scotland, and his second wife, Ruhamah Doane, who was born in 1745. Arriving in America in 1758, William Cromartie settled and developed a plantation on South River, a tributary of the Cape Fear near Wilmington, North Carolina. On April 2, 1766, William married Ruhamah Doane, a fifth-generation descendant of a Mayflower passenger to Plymouth, Stephen Hopkins. If Cromartie is your last name or that of one of your blood relatives, it is almost certain that you can trace your ancestry to one of the thirteen children of William Cromartie , his first wife, and Ruhamah Doane, who became the founding ancestors of our Cromartie family in America: William Jr., James, Thankful, Elizabeth, Hannah Ruhamah, Alexander, John, Margaret Nancy, Mary, Catherine, Jean, Peter Patrick, and Ann E. Cromartie. These four volumes hold an account of the descent of each of these first-generation Cromarties in America, including personal anecdotes, photographs, copies of family bibles, wills, and other historical documents. Their pages hold a personal record of our ancestors and where you belong in the Cromartie family tree.

Book Synopsis Robert Coleman of Charles City Shire by : James Coleman
Download or read book Robert Coleman of Charles City Shire written by James Coleman and published by . This book was released on 2022-03-31 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Odyssey of the Coleman brothers, all from England, began in 1637 with the arrival of Robert Coleman. Robert was named as one of forty headrights of Colonel William Farrar II. While some 1,932 descendants and related family members of Robert Coleman are included in this book, those in the states of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina are particularly highlighted. The author's objective is to help the reader develop insights into the soul and the day-to-day life of Coleman family members. The hundreds of family member photographs add much to these insights since "the eyes are the windows to the soul". In addition, since the soul of architecture is closely integrated with the souls of the inhabitants who interact within the space they occupy, the pictures of Coleman family homes are likewise "windows to the soul". Lastly, it was once said that, "Purity of writing is purity of the soul". Thus, the handwriting samples in this book add to the reader's understanding of the Coleman soul.

Book Synopsis "Our Connection with Savannah" by : Russell K. Brown
Download or read book "Our Connection with Savannah" written by Russell K. Brown and published by Mercer University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the outset, the 1st Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters had problems. Much of the trouble lay in the organization of Civil War regiments and companies. Most companies in the early years of the war were made up of men from the same town or county. The concept of the sharpshooters was alien to this home-town tradition. Men were asked to leave the comfortable companionship of their neighbors and friends and go into a unit with people they had never met before. Despite its uncertain beginning, the battalion was molded into a fine unit by the skill and energy of its officers and non-commissioned officers. The sharpshooters early won the praise of higher-level commanders and inspecting officers. However, as the war dragged on, the battalion was reduced in numbers, morale, and efficiency. Notwithstanding its poor performance in the last months of its life, the unit has a high reputation that was well deserved. A Civil War veteran and historian called the sharpshooters "one of the best-drilled and most-efficient battalions in the service." This book objectively examines the organization, leadership, and performance of the sharpshooters, follows their wartime experiences, and devotes considerable attention to the individual soldiers. If the story of the 1st Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters has not been a well known story, it is now.
