Book Synopsis Coins of the Golden Horde by : Dzmitry Huletski
Download or read book Coins of the Golden Horde written by Dzmitry Huletski and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to coinage of the Mongol Empire during its westward expansion through Central Asia, the Volga regions and the Crimea under the leadership of Chingiz (Genghis) Khan's oldest son Jochi. These lands eventually came to be ruled independently by Jochi's descendants as the Ulus Jochi, known in later times as Jochids, Jujids or the Golden Horde. Most of the early coins of Central Asia in the book are new discoveries only recently published in the Russian literature. The authors have attempted to relate the coinage to the historical context in which it was issued and to provide an overview of the westward expansion itself. The Golden Horde are the Mongols who were in Russia for two centuries and who had an indelible influence on the future development of the Russian Empire.

Book Synopsis The Mongols in Iran by : Judith Kolbas
Download or read book The Mongols in Iran written by Judith Kolbas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the administration of Iran under Mongol rule through taxation and monetary policy. A consistent development is evident only from abundant numismatic material, from the conquest of Samarqand by Chingiz Khan to the reign of the penultimate ruler, Uljaytu. In many cases, the individuals responsible for initiating and conducting the policies can be identified from the histories or remarks of the mint master. The structure of the empire is clearly demarcated by mint production, coin styles and type of metal. This illuminates many controversial historical points such as the meaning and function of an Il-khan and the establishment of the Toluid dynasty under Hulagu. The Mongols broke the crust of an inflexible and archaic Islamic monetary tradition that had hampered economic development by encouraging extensive trade and the sciences (especially astronomy and higher mathematics) through determined and always pragmatic programmes.
Book Synopsis Studies on the Mongol Empire and Early Muslim India by : Peter Jackson
Download or read book Studies on the Mongol Empire and Early Muslim India written by Peter Jackson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first section of this volume brings together five studies on the Mongol empire. The accent is on the ideology behind Mongol expansion, on the dissolution of the empire into a number of rival khanates, and on the relations between the Mongol regimes and their Christian subjects within and potential allies outside. Three pieces in the second section relate to the early history of the Delhi Sultanate, with particular reference to the role of its Turkish slave (ghulam) officers and guards, while a fourth examines the collapse in 1206-15 of the Ghurid dynasty, whose conquests in northern India had created the preconditions for the Sultanate's emergence. The final three papers are concerned with Mongol pressure on Muslim India and the capacity of the Delhi Sultanate to withstand it.
