Or, if you had a magic coin that allowed you to summon an unbreakable sword? Or, it allowed you to persuade your enemies to your side? Or, it allowed you to see your enemies' deepest desires? Or, it made lovers hate each other? Would you use it for good or evil? What would you do, if someone tried to take your magic coin. Would you fight them? Persuade them? Shoot them? Oh, yeah, did I forget to mention, we still have guns baby! This is an urban fantasy taking place in modern day America. A wide array of characters obtain magic coins that allow them to perform extraordinary feats. The coin holders, called players, all play in "The Coin Game". Some players want all the power and all the coins. They will use their coins to hurt others. excerpt: He closes his fist and concentrates for a minute. “Sword, please.” he thinks. He feels a punch to his belly, and a spinning in his bowels. After a moment, the feeling leaves him, and a large bronze colored sword appears in his hand. “Wow, cool color. I thought it would be black.” He slowly stabs both tires on his side of the car.

Download or read book Militarism, Hunting, Imperialism written by J.A. Mangan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late Victorian and Edwardian officer class viewed hunting and big game hunting in particular, as a sound preparation for imperial warfare. For the imperial officer in the making, the ‘blooding’ hunting ritual was a visible ‘hallmark’ of stirling martial masculinity. Sir Henry Newbolt, the period poet of subaltern self-sacrifice, typically considered hunting as essential for the creation of a ‘masculine sporting spirit’ necessary for the consolidation and extension of the empire. Hunting was seen as a manifestation of Darwinian masculinity that maintained a pre-ordained hierarchical order of superordinate and subordinate breeds. Militarism, Hunting, Imperialism examines these ideas under the following five sections: martial imperialism: the self-sacrificial subaltern ‘blooding’ the middle class martial male the imperial officer, hunting and war martial masculinity proclaimed and consolidated martial masculinity adapted and adjusted. This book was published as a special issue of the International Journal of the History of Sport.

While escaping the Holy Roman Empire, Thal discovers more about his werewolf powers as he struggles to reach a refuge shrouded in mystery. Facing uncertain destinies, Thal and Altea must escape Bohemia. The Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand himself has signed the warrant for Thal’s capture on charges of shape shifting and the killing of Jesuits. A hefty reward attracts countless bounty hunters into the heart of this 16th century Christian empire. Thal emerges from hiding with his young wife Altea who is barely recovered from torture at the hands of witch hunters. With his werewolf powers, he battles the bounty hunters and begins a daring journey across the Holy Roman Empire. But more than men stalk him. Servants of Tekax, sorcerer to the Turks, have been unleashed upon his trail. The werewolf Rotfeng covets the enchanted fur that lets Thal change form at will, regardless of the phase of the moon. Worse yet comes Janfelter, an undying fext created in the dark fortress of Tekax. These heartless killers are tasked with stopping Thal from reaching his father Sarputeen, the arch nemesis of Tekax. Thal’s only refuge awaits him in what is left of the Kingdom of Hungary after a Turkish conquest. In the remote castle Vlkbohveza the ancient sorcerer Sarputeen lives untouched despite widespread persecution of magic users and pagans. Although Thal longs to be with his own kind, he worries about the reunion with his father. It was Sarputeen’s magic that made Thal a werelord, a master of wolves. But what shall the sorcerer require of his creation now that Tekax aims to settle an old score? Enjoy this historical fantasy from the Werewolves in the Renaissance series on Google Play.

Book Synopsis The Legacy of a Red Hills Hunting Plantation by : Robert L Crawford
Download or read book The Legacy of a Red Hills Hunting Plantation written by Robert L Crawford and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2012-10-21 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Red Hills region is an idyllic setting filled with longleaf pines that stretches from Tallahassee, Florida, to Thomasville, Georgia. At its heart lies Tall Timbers, a former hunting plantation. In 1919, sportsman Henry L. Beadel purchased the Red Hills plantation to be used for quail hunting. As was the tradition, he conducted prescribed burnings after every hunting season in order to clear out the thick brush to make it more appealing to the nesting birds. After the U.S. Forest Service outlawed the practice in the 1920s, condemning it as harmful for the forest and its wildlife, the quail population diminished dramatically. Astonished by this loss and encouraged by his naturalist friend Herbert L. Stoddard, Beadel set his sights on conserving the land in order to study the effects of prescribed burnings on wildlife. Upon his death in 1958, Beadel donated the entire Tall Timbers estate to be used as an ecological research station. The Legacy of a Red Hills Hunting Plantation traces Beadel’s evolution from sportsman and naturalist to conservationist. Complemented by a wealth of previously unpublished, rare vintage photographs, it follows the transformation of the plantation into what its founders envisioned--a long-term plot study station, independent of government or academic funding and control.
