Book excerpt: Book One Francis and Willow met in third grade and became very good friends immediately. After college they saw an advertisement for the local Police Force seeking employees. They both decided to apply as a lark, and the rest is history. The two heroines are employed by the English Police Force and the opportunity arises for the ladies to travel to America. Their assignment is to locate a Dr. Gaile Morton who lives in the Village of Porter Field in Porter County. Doctor Morton wants to start a detective business which is unusual work for a woman in the early 1950's. The two ladies travel on the ship The Royal Victorian Rose to reach America. While on board the ship they plan their cover as cleaning specialists. They create a motto: "We Clean Up More Than Just Dirt." They also create their outfits for cleaning, and they figure out the process to use in cleaning a home. After they arrive at Ellis Island, they enter America, and the two heroines are finally travelling to their destination. The ladies soon connect with Dr. Gaile Morton. Francis and Willow observe various odd and unusual things happening at certain client's homes. A dead body disappearing from a bath tub, sliding doors hidden in a wall, a water pitcher breaking apart in a closed room, and frankly, some of the clients are rather unique in appearance. The ladies must keep "THE WHISPERED PROMISE" to their boss SGT Major Doyle FitzWilliams and the Police Force, as they solve the strange happenings in book one of THE CLEANING CHRONICLES.

Book excerpt: The modern world can get messy. Fortunately, Swiss artist Ursus Wehrli is a man of obsessive order, as he demonstrates with eye-catching surprise in The Art of Clean Up. Already a bestseller in Germany, this compulsive title has sold more than 100,000 copies in less than a year, and the fastidiously arranged images have garnered blog love from NPR, Brain Pickings, swissmiss, and more. Tapping into the desire for organization and the insanity of über-order, Wehrli humorously categorizes everyday objects and situations by color, size, and shape. He arranges alphabet soup into alphabetical order, sorts the night sky by star size, and aligns sunbathers' accoutrements—all captured in bright photographs sure to astonish even the pickiest of neat freaks.

The only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can't leave the grounds because she's responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Now something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night. To keep her neighbors and guests safe, Dina has to juggle dealing with annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans-- an alpha-strain werewolf -- and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland.

Book excerpt: Is Your Home Out of Order? Do your kids expect clean folded clothes to magically appear in their drawers? Do they roll their eyes when you suggest they clean the bathroom? By racing in to make their lives easy, have you unintentionally reinforced your children’s belief that the world revolves around them? Dismayed at the attitude of entitlement that had crept into her home, Kay Wyma got some attitude of her own. Cleaning House is her account of a year-long campaign to introduce her five kids to basic life skills and the ways meaningful work can increase earned self-confidence and concern for others. With irresistible humor and refreshing insights, Kay candidly details the ups and downs of equipping her kids for such tasks as making beds, refinishing a deck chair, and working together. The changes that take place in her household will inspire you to launch your own campaign to dislodge your kids from the center of their universe. “If you want your children to be more responsible, more self-assured, and more empathetic, Cleaning House is for you.” —Jim Daly, president of Focus on the Family

Book excerpt: Paul Shapiro gives you a “captivating” (John Mackey, former CEO of Whole Foods Market) front-row seat for the race to create and commercialize cleaner, safer, sustainable meat—real meat—without the animals. Since the dawn of Homo sapiens some quarter million years ago, animals have satiated our species’ desire for meat. But with a growing global population and demand for meat, eggs, dairy, leather, and more, raising such massive numbers of farm animals is woefully inefficient and takes an enormous toll on the planet, public health, and certainly the animals themselves. But what if we could have our meat and eat it, too? The next great scientific revolution is underway—“a future where the cellular agricultural revolution helps lower rates of foodborne illness, greatly improves environmental sustainability, and allows us to continue to enjoy the food we love” (Kathleen Sebelius, former US Secretary of Health and Human Services). Enter clean meat—real, actual meat grown (or brewed!) from animal cells—as well as other clean foods that ditch animal cells altogether and are simply built from the molecule up. Whereas our ancestors domesticated wild animals into livestock, today we’re beginning to domesticate their cells, leaving the animals out of the equation. From one single cell of a cow, you could feed an entire village. And “in this important book that could just save your life” (Michael Greger, MD, author of How Not to Die), the story of this coming second domestication is anything but tame.

Book excerpt: Smiley-Man Chronicles is the true story and reminiscences of Michael Mulholland, Tahni Jones, Eddy Boros, Kevin Donnelly, the Lefty Jones Band, Edwardo, Pancho Rosie, et al. Technically your author has been more of an archivist and editor than story-teller. He has also tried to hold the price down on this volume so that it will not cost you too much--either spiritually or financially. It reads easily in order, or out, and is about going to the moon, literally & figuratively. Though parts are fiction, the chronicles are largely non-fiction, and they are dedicated to both Nathan Harris, who gave your author everything, and Tahni Jones, who told his sister Georgi shortly before he died that he had been "playing life by ear." Reviews: "Essential reading...a tour de force!" --Stewart Allen, author The Devil's Cup, In the Devil's Garden "I couldn't have written a better book without dropping out of school...." --Saul Fisher, Ph.D. "Thank God for The Lefty Jones Band...long live the Smiley-Man Chronicles..." --Andy Malm, Drummer, Lefty Jones Band "This book is serious fun, thoughtful, and revolutionary." --Nina Feldman, President, Sweet Bella. "Totally original...ground-breaking." --Walter White, Bassist, Lefty Jones Band. "Unmarketable and brilliant." --Errol McDonald, Editor, Random House.

Book excerpt: It has been less than a year since eleven-year-old Jason Carver’s parents were murdered by one of the Rewera, a malicious breed of immortal humans possessed by ancient demons. With the help of his uncle Richard, Jason was able to defeat his murderous enemy, and has since tried to return to a “normal” boyhood. However, school life isn’t easy for him, and not only does he have to deal with the school bully, but a far more sinister threat lurks just on the horizon: the Rewera still want him dead, because unbeknownst to Jason, he is a Pegasi: a mortal imbued with the sacred power of banishing evil. The Rewera return in full force in The Pegasi Chronicles: The Portal to eradicate the Pegasi threat and contaminate Earth with their evil. Not only do they have a diabolical plan to exterminate Jason, but they also seek to open a portal between their plane and the human world in order to summon more of their kind. As part of the Rewera’s strategy, an innocent, twelve-year-old boy from Syria becomes a sacrificial pawn; this boy, Ari, must undergo a horrific process of corruption that will transform him into Jason’s future killer. If the Rewera have their way, both Jason and Ari face an agonizing death. The only person with the knowledge and skill to save them is Richard, whose own complicated and violent past is revealed in the process. Expanding the rich mythology of the Pegasi and Rewera that began in The Sacred Knife, author Allan McCarville brings us the next installment in his exciting new series. The battle between good and evil intensifies, unveiling dark secrets and pulling more innocent lives into a web of building chaos.
