This book was released on 1999-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Olivia & Maria are two young sisters who are coping with the recent divorce of their parents. Later, when their dad begins dating again, the sisters decide to make sure he's dating someone who is right for them too. When dad does meet that someone, Olivia & Maria are happy. Then dad announces his plan to remarry. Now the girls must cope with the experience of having a stepmother. Will she be like the wicked stepmother in the story, Cinderella? As one who has experienced the role of stepmother twice, I can assure you that it is a role one must give careful consideration. You are not only making a commitment to your partner, but also to his children. As a stepmother, I had always searched unsuccessfully for a children's book depicting stepmothers in a positive way. Something to erase the indelible image of the "wicked" stepmother in the story Cinderella. I wanted them to have confirmation that not ALL stepmothers are mean & indifferent. Much to my dismay, I was never able to present them with anything tangible. And so, these frightened children were left to battle the situation with very little reassurance of a positive outcome. Finally, I decided to put teaching on the back burner & do something about this dilemma. I would write a children's book on a subject I knew something about & felt that children, divorced singles with children & stepparents desperately needed. My hope is that those who read "The Not No Wicked Stepmother" will come away with a positive attitude about stepfamilies & some ideas about how to make them successful. Leslie Venable was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1960. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1986 from the University of Alabama & her Master of Arts in teaching from Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts before becoming a writer/publisher of children's books. Using her experience from both teaching & counseling children, she conveys some of the problems they most often face, both at home & at school. Her second book, in progress, is entitled The Friend They Called "Different."
Book Synopsis Same Sex in the City by : Lauren Blitzer
Download or read book Same Sex in the City written by Lauren Blitzer and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-12-11 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At last lesbian culture is becoming more visible in the mainstream media. From The O.C. to The L Word, gay women (and the occasional bi-curious straight girl) are portrayed coming to terms with their sexuality and embracing it. But the journey from sexual curiosity to finally coming out can be confusing without proper guidance and empowering role models. Lauren Blitzer and Lauren Levin know first-hand the challenges that lesbian women face in our society, and SAME SEX IN THE CITY is their uplifting and at times irreverent response. The Laurens are both prominent figures in the New York lesbian community, though their stories are very different. Here they relate their own experiences and those of the women they interview, as well as offer serious advice, alluring anecdotes, and a positive attitude for girls who know they're gay - and those who are wondering about their sexuality but are not yet sure whether their Prince Charming is really a Cinderella. Part confessional, part informational, SAME SEX IN THE CITY covers the gamut of lesbian life from dating to heartbreak, from hooking up with straight chicks to being out at work. It's the book that millions of women have been searching for - a step-by-step guide that will help every woman come to terms with and celebrate her sexuality, whatever it may be.

Book Synopsis Boarding School Syndrome by : Joy Schaverien
Download or read book Boarding School Syndrome written by Joy Schaverien and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-05 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boarding School Syndrome is an analysis of the trauma of the 'privileged' child sent to boarding school at a young age. Innovative and challenging, Joy Schaverien offers a psychological analysis of the long-established British and colonial preparatory and public boarding school tradition. Richly illustrated with pictures and the narratives of adult ex-boarders in psychotherapy, the book demonstrates how some forms of enduring distress in adult life may be traced back to the early losses of home and family. Developed from clinical research and informed by attachment and child development theories ‘Boarding School Syndrome’ is a new term that offers a theoretical framework on which the psychotherapeutic treatment of ex-boarders may build. Divided into four parts, History: In the Name of Privilege; Exile and Healing; Broken Attachments: A Hidden Trauma, and The Boarding School Body, the book includes vivid case studies of ex-boarders in psychotherapy. Their accounts reveal details of the suffering endured: loss, bereavement and captivity are sometimes compounded by physical, sexual and psychological abuse. Here, Joy Schaverien shows how many boarders adopt unconscious coping strategies including dissociative amnesia resulting in a psychological split between the 'home self' and the 'boarding school self'. This pattern may continue into adult life, causing difficulties in intimate relationships, generalized depression and separation anxiety amongst other forms of psychological distress. Boarding School Syndrome demonstrates how boarding school may damage those it is meant to be a reward and discusses the wider implications of this tradition. It will be essential reading for psychoanalysts, Jungian analysts, psychotherapists, art psychotherapists, counsellors and others interested in the psychological, cultural and international legacy of this tradition including ex-boarders and their partners.
Download or read book Mean Mothers written by Peg Streep and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawn from research and the real-life experiences of adult daughters, Mean Mothers illuminates one of the last cultural taboos: what happens when a woman does not or cannot love her own daughter. Peg Streep, co-author of the highly acclaimed Girl in the Mirror, has subtitled this important, eye-opening exploration of the darker side of maternal behavior, “Overcoming the Legacy of Hurt.” There are no psychopathic child abusers in Mean Mothers. Instead, this essential volume focuses on the more subtle forms of psychological damage inflicted by mothers on their unappreciated daughters—and offers help and support to those women who were forced to suffer a parent’s cruelty and neglect.
