Download or read book Eight Months Behind the Bamboo Curtain written by Chang Kuo-sin and published by City University of HK Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This was the motto of Chang Kuo-sin, and the ideal which he inspired generations of students of communication to follow. He proved his own dedication to this when, in 1949, he found himself in Nanking, the former nationalist capital, under the rule of the newly victorious communists. For eight months he lived and attempted to work in the midst of these historical changes. He managed to smuggle his detailed notes out to share with the world at a time when almost no reports of the new regime were being published. To mark the centenary of his birth, Hong Kong Baptist University’s School of Communication has republished this important work by one of its most distinguished professors.

Book Synopsis The Underground Church by : Eugene Bach
Download or read book The Underground Church written by Eugene Bach and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chinese house church is one of the most misunderstood and controversial subjects in Christian world missions today. Questions about it abound, such as… How did it start? How does it work? How is it led? Why does it continue to experience revival? Is it necessary, now that China has extended religious freedoms? Much of the confusion is caused by the Chinese government, which deceives journalists and foreign missionaries with promises of religious freedom that are never kept. The truth is, the house churches of China are growing at a phenomenal rate. Never in the history of the world have so many people in such a short time left one belief system for another without a hostile revolution. Lives in China are being transformed daily by the gospel of Jesus Christ and the display of His miraculous power. The Underground Church demystifies the Chinese house church movement, with real-life examples and personal testimonies from Chinese Christians. The movement’s unique characteristics—both good and bad—are addressed, as well as how they have led to the church’s astonishing growth. Read and be amazed at what God is doing in China!
Book Synopsis Unveiling God's Church by : Paris Reidhead
Download or read book Unveiling God's Church written by Paris Reidhead and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-10-06 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Unveiling God's Church, a compilation of nine of Brother Reidhead's sermons on the first three chapters of the Book of Revelation, we gain deep insights on how we should think about the Church, the Body and Bride of Christ. We learn the only reason for the Church existing is to glorify the Lord through the lives of its members and to bring Him honor, fame, praise and love. We learn job number one of the preacher is to deliver to the Lord a Bride pleasing to Him. And thus in God's Church our hope is that in every day, every circumstance, in every situation God and His sovereign love is going to use my life to bring glory to His Son. But this only happens when each member is perfected, when each is filled with the fullness of Christ. This is how the Church is to glorify Him by revealing Christ in every believer. We become priests unto God. This royal priesthood is His perfected Church. This singular purpose is the reason He gave us pastors, teachers and prophets, to bring the Body to perfection.
Book Synopsis A Protestant Church in Communist China by : John Craig William Keating
Download or read book A Protestant Church in Communist China written by John Craig William Keating and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012-02-16 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freedom of religious belief is guaranteed under the constitution of the People’s Republic of China, but the degree to which this freedom is able to be exercised remains a highly controversial issue. Much scholarly attention has been given to persecuted underground groups such as Falungong, but one area that remains largely unexplored is the relationship between officially registered churches and the communist government. This study investigates the history of one such official church, Moore Memorial Church in Shanghai. This church was founded by American Methodist missionaries. By the time of the 1949 revolution, it was the largest Protestant church in East Asia, running seven day a week programs. As a case study of one individual church, operating from an historical (rather than theological) perspective, this study examines the experience of people at this church against the backdrop of the turbulent politics of the Mao and Deng eras. It asks and seeks to answer questions such as: were the people at the church pleased to see the foreign missionaries leave? Were people forced to sign the so-called “Christian manifesto”"? Once the church doors were closed in 1966, did worshippers go underground? Why was this particular church especially chosen to be the first re-opened in Shanghai in 1979? What explanations are there for its phenomenal growth since then? A considerable proportion of the data for this study is drawn from Chinese language sources, including interviews, personal correspondence, statistics, internal church documents and archives, many of which have never previously been published or accessed by foreign researchers. The main focus of this study is on the period from 1949 to 1989, a period in which the church experienced many ups and downs, restrictions and limitations. The Mao era, in particular, remains one of the least understood and seldom written about periods in the history of Christianity in China. This study therefore makes a significant contribution to our evolving understanding of the delicate balancing act between compromise, co-operation and compliance that categorises church-state relations in modern China.

Book Synopsis Pentecostal Preaching and Ministry in Multicultural and Post-Christian Canada by : Steven M. Studebaker
Download or read book Pentecostal Preaching and Ministry in Multicultural and Post-Christian Canada written by Steven M. Studebaker and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past forty years, Canada has become an increasingly secular, multicultural, and religiously plural society. Indeed, the church in Canada, and Pentecostals in particular, face a challenging context for responding to the call to bear witness to Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Like the disciples on the day of Pentecost, however, we need the Holy Spirit to come upon us and liberate us from our post-Christian pessimism. We need the Holy Spirit to enable us to proclaim the gospel to the nations, people that are no longer at the ends of the earth, but making their home in Canada. This book engages this new context, and considers and proposes ways that pentecostal Christians and churches can respond to the challenges of the increasingly post-Christian, multicultural, secular, and religiously plural context of Canadian society.
