Download or read book Order Statistics & Inference written by Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature on order statistics and inferenc eis quite extensive and covers a large number of fields ,but most of it is dispersed throughout numerous publications. This volume is the consolidtion of the most important results and places an emphasis on estimation. Both theoretical and computational procedures are presented to meet the needs of researchers, professionals, and students. The methods of estimation discussed are well-illustrated with numerous practical examples from both the physical and life sciences, including sociology, psychology,a nd electrical and chemical engineering. A complete, comprehensive bibliography is included so the book can be used both aas a text and reference.
Book Synopsis Advances in Distribution Theory, Order Statistics, and Inference by : N. Balakrishnan
Download or read book Advances in Distribution Theory, Order Statistics, and Inference written by N. Balakrishnan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-23 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to honor the fundamental contributions to many different areas of statistics made by Barry Arnold. Distinguished and active researchers highlight some of the recent developments in statistical distribution theory, order statistics and their properties, as well as inferential methods associated with them. Applications to survival analysis, reliability, quality control, and environmental problems are emphasized.
Book Synopsis Order Statistics by : Herbert A. David
Download or read book Order Statistics written by Herbert A. David and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-03-22 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an up-to-date coverage of the theory and applications of ordered random variables and their functions. Furthermore, it develops the distribution theory of OS systematically. Applications include procedures for the treatment of outliers and other data analysis techniques. Even when chapter and section headings are the same as in OSII, there are appreciable changes, mostly additions, with some obvious deletions. Parts of old Ch. 7, for example, are prime candidates for omission. Appendices are designed to help collate tables, computer algorithms, and software, as well as to compile related monographs on the subject matter. Extensive exercise sets will continue, many of them replaced by newer ones.
Book Synopsis Approximate Distributions of Order Statistics by : Rolf-Dieter Reiss
Download or read book Approximate Distributions of Order Statistics written by Rolf-Dieter Reiss and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed as a unified and mathematically rigorous treatment of some recent developments of the asymptotic distribution theory of order statistics (including the extreme order statistics) that are relevant for statistical theory and its applications. Particular emphasis is placed on results concern ing the accuracy oflimit theorems, on higher order approximations, and other approximations in quite a general sense. Contrary to the classical limit theorems that primarily concern the weak convergence of distribution functions, our main results will be formulated in terms of the variational and the Hellinger distance. These results will form the proper springboard for the investigation of parametric approximations of nonparametric models of joint distributions of order statistics. The approxi mating models include normal as well as extreme value models. Several applications will show the usefulness of this approach. Other recent developments in statistics like nonparametric curve estima tion and the bootstrap method will be studied as far as order statistics are concerned. 1n connection with this, graphical methods will, to some extent, be explored.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the contributions to this volume stem from very different fields, no attempt was made to find a systematic ordering. All results are new in so far as they have not been published so far.

Download or read book Breakthroughs in Statistics written by Samuel Kotz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: McCrimmon, having gotten Grierson's attention, continued: "A breakthrough, you say? If it's in economics, at least it can't be dangerous. Nothing like gene engineering, laser beams, sex hormones or international relations. That's where we don't want any breakthroughs. " (Galbraith, 1. K. (1990) A Tenured Profes sor, Houghton Mifflin; Boston. ) To judge astronomy] in this way a narrow utilitarian point of view] demon strates not only how poor we are, but also how small, narrow, and indolent our minds are; it shows a disposition always to calculate the payolTbefore the work, a cold heart and a lack of feeling for everything that is great and honors man. One can unfortunately not deny that such a mode of thinking is not uncommon in our age, and I am convinced that this is closely connected with the catastro phes which have befallen many countries in recent times; do not mistake me, I do not talk of the general lack of concern for science, but of the source from which all this has come, of the tendency to everywhere look out for one's advan tage and to relate everything to one's physical well-being, of the indilTerence towards great ideas, ofthe aversion to any elTort which derives from pure enthu siasm: I believe that such attitudes, if they prevail, can be decisive in catas trophes of the kind we have experienced. Gauss, K. F.: Astronomische An trittsvorlesung (cited from Buhler, W. K. (1981) Gauss: A Biographical Study, Springer: New York)]."
Book Synopsis Annotated Readings in the History of Statistics by : H.A. David
Download or read book Annotated Readings in the History of Statistics written by H.A. David and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a selection of pioneering papers or extracts ranging from Pascal (1654) to R.A. Fisher (1930). The editors'annotations put the articles in perspective for the modern reader. A special feature of the book is the large number of translations, nearly all made by the authors. There are several reasons for studying the history of statistics: intrinsic interest in how the field of statistics developed, learning from often brilliant ideas and not reinventing the wheel, and livening up general courses in statistics by reference to important contributors.

This book was released on 2010-02-22 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kendall's Advanced Theory of Statistics and Kendall's Library of Statistics The development of modern statistical theory is reflected in the history of the late Sir Maurice Kenfall's volumes, The Advanced Theory of Statistics. This landmark publication began life as a two-volume work and grew steadily as a single-authored work until the 1950s. In this edition, there is new material on skewness and kurtosis, hazard rate distribution, the bootstrap, the evaluation of the multivariate normal integral and ratios of quadratic forms. It also includes over 200 new references, 40 new exercises, and 20 further examples in the main text.
