Jesus healed the sick because his heart went out in pity 'toward them, and he longed to help them in the most immediate and friendly way. But there was also a deeper meaning in these works of power. Their larger need as sick and suffering men and women was the healing of their bruised and diseased souls and of that power the cure of the body was a sort of symbol and pledge.
