(the new edition of It contains all the music necessary for choral purposes, excepting the psalter, anthems, and hymns. A careful selection of single and double chants for the Canticles will be found, adapted to the pointing set forth by the General Convention. The editor Wishes to call special attention to Nos. 2 and 3, Of the Rules for Chanting, on page 29. These rules are taken from the Preface to the Cathedral Psalter, and if they are strictly Observed, the chanting will be smooth and flowing, without the disjointed effect so often heard in choirs. A great change has been made in the condition of Church Music in this country during the past few years. Choral services have increased, the dignity of Church worship has advanced, and a more enlightened appreciation of what is highest and best in ecclesiastical music is everywhere manifest.
