Book excerpt: BOOK TWO IN THE FIREHEART SAGAAfter learning of the different manipulative forces that are trying to control him, Savitar has decided to put all other concerns aside and concentrate on his own personal revenge. He abandons the quest for the Shards of the Sigilgrim, much to the chagrin of those who believe it to be mankind's only hope, and sets off to locate the necromancer who has caused him such personal pain. His magic greatly increased and his thirst for blood not yet sated, Savitar has begun to feel a dark change within him. It is a change not unnoticed by others and the more ominous interpretation of the Fireheart Prophecy is feared to be true. The Fireheart may not be the world's savior but instead the herald of its destruction. With his inability to trust anyone and the knowledge that someone close will in fact betray him, Savitar cares little of the looming turbulent future and even less for prophecies. He has cast aside his faith in legacy and now must hold to the tragedy of fate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stranger-Kings of Sikka is the first monographic study of an origin myth and history of an indigenous eastern Indonesian state and the first contemporary ethnography of the Ata Sikka of Flores. The book will be of interest to anthropologists, ethnologists of Austronesia, historians and political scientists whose interests include Southeast Asia. During the 1920s, in the regency of Sikka on the island of Flores, D.D. Pareira Kondi and A. Boer Pareira, two notable men among the first literate Sikkanese, began writing about the history and culture of their people. Among their many surviving manuscripts are two long works on the origin of the rajas who ruled Sikka until the end of the rajadom in the 1950s. The author of this book uncovered the manuscripts in 1994 and found among them versions of the myth of origin of the Sikkanese rajas, an epic tale of immigrant-kings that was lost to living memory and as oral tradition by the 1970s. Drawing on Boer’s and Kondi's texts and his own field research in the regency of Sikka, Lewis presents an abridged English translation of the origin myth and constructs a history of the Sikkanese rajas and the organization of the society they ruled.

Book excerpt: Mpu Monaguṇa's early thirteenth century epic poem Sumanasāntaka is a vernacular rendering of Kālidāsa's story of Prince Aja and Princess Indumatī told in the Raghuvaṃśa. In it the poet exploits his source narrative to describe and comment on the Javanese world of his times. In Mpu Monaguṇa's Sumanasāntaka the authors offer an edited text and translation of Mpu Monaguṇa's epic kakawin and extensive commentary on the editing of the manuscripts and history of the poem and its story, the relationship between the Old Javanese poem and Kālidāsa's Raghuvaṃśa, the way in which the poem imagines the lived environment of ancient Java in the early thirteenth century and Balinese painted representations of the story of Prince Aja and Princess Indumatī.

This book was released on 2004-10-01 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cypriot Arabic, an unwritten language and mother tongue of several hundred bilingual (Arabic/Greek) Maronites from Kormakiti (N.W. Cyprus), evolved from a medieval Arabic colloquial brought to the island by Christian Arab migrants (probably from Asia Minor and Syria). It represents the outcome of a unique linguistic and cultural synthesis drawing on Arabic, Aramaic, and Greek; its Arabic component also shows a hybrid areal profile combining Greater Syrian traits with formal features typical of the contemporary S.E.Anatolian-Mesopotamian dialectal continuum. A number of rare Aramaic substratal elements in Cypriot Arabic suggest a relatively early separation of its parent dialect from mainstream Arabic. This lexicon surveys about 2000 Cypriot Arabic terms against the background of extensive comparative material from the Arabic dialects, Old Arabic, and colloquial and literary varieties of Aramaic. Many Cypriot Arabic terms are here cited with illustrative examples and ethnographic commentary where relevant. Cypriot Arabic is an endangered language; the present glossary is the most comprehensive lexical record of this scientifically intriguing variety of peripheral Arabic. It is primarily intended for orientalists and linguists specializing in comparative Semitics and Arabic dialectology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a methodology for the conception of Jesus by a human mother and a divine father. The method makes use of scientific genetic processes which operate in the conception of any human being, but with a divine contribution. Various currently held theories of methods by which Jesus appeared on earth are shown to lack evidence. Arising from this method, Jesus' sonship from God is proposed to have been literal and not metaphorical as is suggested by current theology. Therefore, Jesus is presented in this writing as the literal son of God, being both human and divine. As such, he was the unique and suitable offering to God to make atonement for the obvious wrong-doing of human beings. If this methodology is correct, the way a trinity of divine persons may be perceived is suggested.

Book excerpt: EPIC FANTASY WITH A HEART Savitar has learned that he is gifted in magic, but more than that, he may be the one prophesized as the Fireheart, a magically gifted warrior destined to rid the world of an ultimate evil. With this revelation, a legacy is presented to Savitar, a legacy of ancient warriors and powerful wielders of magic. From this venerable line, he is supposedly descended and must continue to preserve their glory, but it is only through faith that Savitar can maintain this obligation. Unfortunately, it is a faith that Savitar is not so sure of. Soon, despite his doubts, men and demigods, both good and evil are vying for his allegiance or his destruction, their great plans hinging on whether the Fireheart exists or not. Savitar is forced to face great peril and embark on a quest for the knowledge of magic and to find himself. Will he hold to the faith of legacy or will he find another way? Contains 40 pages of appendices and a newly added detailed map of the kingdom of Caidissium.
