Here's advice not based on saving your relationship after infidelity—but saving your sanity. When it comes to cheating, a lot of the attention is focused on cheaters—their unmet needs or their challenges with monogamy. But Tracy Schorn (aka Chump Lady) lampoons such blameshifting and puts the focus squarely on the-cheated-upon (chumps) and their needs. Combining solid advice that champions self-respect, along with hilarious cartoons satirizing the pomposity of cheaters, Leave a Cheater, Gain a Life offers a fresh voice for chumps who want (and need) a new message about infidelity. This book will offer advice on Stupid sh*t cheaters say and how to respond, Rookie mistakes of the recently chumped and how to disarm your fears, Why chumps take the blame and how to protect yourself, and more. Full of snark, sass, and real wisdom about how to bounce back after the gut blow of betrayal, Schorn is the friend who guides you through this nightmare and gives you hope for a better life ahead.

Book excerpt: "A fresh look at infidelity, broadening the focus from the havoc it wreaks within a committed relationship to consider also why people do it, what it means to them, and why breaking up is the expected response to duplicity — but not necessarily the wisest one.” — LA Review of Books From iconic couples’ therapist and bestselling author of Mating in Captivity comes a provocative and controversial look at infidelity with practical, honest, and empathetic advice for how to move beyond it. An affair: it can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet, this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. What are we to make of this time-honored taboo—universally forbidden yet universally practiced? Why do people cheat—even those in happy marriages? Why does an affair hurt so much? When we say infidelity, what exactly do we mean? Do our romantic expectations of marriage set us up for betrayal? Is there such a thing as an affair-proof marriage? Is it possible to love more than one person at once? Can an affair ever help a marriage? Perel weaves real-life case stories with incisive psychological and cultural analysis in this fast-paced and compelling book. For the past ten years, Perel has traveled the globe and worked with hundreds of couples who have grappled with infidelity. Betrayal hurts, she writes, but it can be healed. An affair can even be the doorway to a new marriage—with the same person. With the right approach, couples can grow and learn from these tumultuous experiences, together or apart. Affairs, she argues, have a lot to teach us about modern relationships—what we expect, what we think we want, and what we feel entitled to. They offer a unique window into our personal and cultural attitudes about love, lust, and commitment. Through examining illicit love from multiple angles, Perel invites readers into an honest, enlightened, and entertaining exploration of modern marriage in its many variations. Fiercely intelligent, The State of Affairs provides a daring framework for understanding the intricacies of love and desire. As Perel observes, “Love is messy; infidelity more so. But it is also a window, like no other, into the crevices of the human heart.”

Book excerpt: New relationships, marriages, and courtships are usually fun and exciting until something goes wrong. Being personally violated by a loved one is one of the deepest wounds to be cut with. You believe something like this will never happen to you until it does. Please learn that if you are the individual who has been violated, you did nothing wrong. When an affair develops those involved may use excuses and untruths to validate their actions. Also, if exposed or confronted some may not want to be held accountable for their behavior or pay any consequences. This is not in every case that is why I am saying only some. Violated relationships can either dissolve permanently or can mend over time. For those that mend it takes a lot of time, patience and understanding. Broken trust is the hardest aspect to earn again. A very important lesson I am hoping to teach my readers is if you are in a relationship with someone and are tempted to be with someone else, you end the relationship you are currently in and then move on. You have no right to cheat and hurt another human being.

He provides nurturing her body hungers because of Dwayne's neglect, and the ear her heart needs to listen. She in turn becomes the force she must fight. Her struggle with being in love with two men at the same time takes her to a life she thought she would never be caught up in, and the burden she was running from is nothing compared to what's to come. Then holding on to whatever self-respect is left, we move on.Jenny's self-pity turned into anger and then into blame, then moved forward trying to heal not because it's easy but is necessary. The Cheater's Wife tells the story of a woman's strength even through her weakness. It's said that nothing in life is by chance and all that happened had to. Your difficulties can be a learning experience and can teach appreciation if or when you're brought back to where you were most happy. Some may think they cannot go on without another, but your strength is not given; you already possess it. We hardly ever find that strength until it's needed, and that's when we learn how to retrieve it.Never try to change a person into what you want him or her to be. First think why you where attracted to the friendship in the first place. There must have been something that got your attention, so to force change would be to erase what you first saw.The steamy lovemaking and the heightened romance from an affair can bring what you think is missing, but what happens when that ends? The sneaking around and everything that goes with it can be exciting but for how long? The Cheater's Wife takes you along with each character so you can have the experience along with them. Each person's story This story will resonate in your mind, and after reading it, you can say if it was worth it. Many get trapped in the world of deceit and cannot find their way out. Remember, looking into someone else's life and judging might be easy, but looking into our own life is never as easy as you might think.Imagine what you would have done differently.

Book excerpt: Between the sheets with Australia’s powerful, rich and famous Since the First Fleet landed, Australian history has been littered with mistresses. Slide between the covers of this book to find a cheaters’ list of those women, and a star-studded hall of infamy of Australia’s rich and powerful men, catching them sneaking into their lover’s bed in the dead of night. They are all here: Michael Hutchence, Clive James, Tony Mokbel – the list goes on ... Wealthy and powerful men have always attracted beautiful mistresses. Kerry Packer, Australia’s richest man, was one such notorious philanderer. He only moved home to his wife from the flat of his mistress the day before he died. Politicians are no better: Bob Hawke had a prolonged love affair with his biographer Blanche d’Alpuget before finally casting aside loyal wife Hazel. Former Liberal leader Sir Billy Snedden died on the job in a Sydney motel room with his lover and was found wearing only a condom. Today’s politicians certainly aren’t squeaky clean either ... Mistress takes you between the sheets with Australia’s billionaires, footballers, celebrities, gangsters and politicians; the women they cheat with, the wives they betray. And it explains the one lie that binds them all – sex.

Book excerpt: When it first appeared, The English Rogue was declared a forbidden book on account of its gross indecency. Copies were printed secretly and sold furtively at alehouses until 1665 when it was properly licensed. When requested, the author, Richard Head, declined to produce a second volume as it was his belief that the text had been interpreted as autobiographical and his reputation had suffered as a consequence. Francis Kirkman, who had acquired the rights to the work, set about the endeavour himself and wrote the remaining volumes, publishing them in 1671. This is a reprint of the 1928 reissue containing Head's original book and two of Kirkman's added volumes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Visionary Queen affirms Marguerite de Navarre’s status not only as a political figure, author, or proponent of nonschismatic reform but also as a visionary. In her life and writings, the queen of Navarre dissected the injustices that her society and its institutions perpetuated against women. We also see evidence that she used her literary texts, especially the Heptaméron, as an exploratory space in which to generate a creative vision for institutional reform. The Heptaméron’s approach to reform emerges from statistical analysis of the text’s seventy-two tales, which reveals new insights into trends within the work, including the different categories of wrongdoing by male, institutional representatives from the Church and aristocracy, as well as the varying responses to injustice that characters in the tales employ as they pursue reform. Throughout its chapters, The Visionary Queen foregrounds the trope of the labyrinth, a potent symbol in early modern Europe that encapsulated both the fallen world and redemption, two themes that underlie Marguerite's project of reform.
