I have written it out from my memory of what I then said, for two im portant reasons, - first, to avoid all possible misunder standing of the Catholic View on so important a sub jcet; and secondly, to put on record the arguments which I then brought before the American public. Many, also, who were not able to be present, may wish to know the nature of the claims which we address to that sense of justice which eminently belongs to our countrymen.
