When one of the band members bangs out their last solo ever, will the group be flat? Did a band member have an axe to grind? Sammi and her mates have their hands full trying to uncover who wrote that requiem. When Courtney's old college roommate arrives to conduct anything but a friendly investigation into the town of Eerie Falls, jarring notes might be on the page for the constable. If things go off-beat, Sammi could end up solo. The mystery's rhythm changes when a robbery occurs, one that could out-crescendo the 1812 overture's finale. In order to bring the curtain down on this tale, Sammi and her friends need to follow the green glow of faerocks and find the right tempo. Gord's ghostly bites may not be enough to energize the solution, but does he have what it takes to help the band? Sammi and her friends need to hit the right notes to avoid a cacophony! Book Synopsis Hollywood Highbrow by : Shyon Baumann
Download or read book Hollywood Highbrow written by Shyon Baumann and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's moviegoers and critics generally consider some Hollywood products--even some blockbusters--to be legitimate works of art. But during the first half century of motion pictures very few Americans would have thought to call an American movie "art." Up through the 1950s, American movies were regarded as a form of popular, even lower-class, entertainment. By the 1960s and 1970s, however, viewers were regularly judging Hollywood films by artistic criteria previously applied only to high art forms. In Hollywood Highbrow, Shyon Baumann for the first time tells how social and cultural forces radically changed the public's perceptions of American movies just as those forces were radically changing the movies themselves. The development in the United States of an appreciation of film as an art was, Baumann shows, the product of large changes in Hollywood and American society as a whole. With the postwar rise of television, American movie audiences shrank dramatically and Hollywood responded by appealing to richer and more educated viewers. Around the same time, European ideas about the director as artist, an easing of censorship, and the development of art-house cinemas, film festivals, and the academic field of film studies encouraged the idea that some American movies--and not just European ones--deserved to be considered art.
Download or read book Terrence Malick written by Lloyd Michaels and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a director who has made only four feature films over three decades, Terrence Malick has sustained an extraordinary critical reputation as one of America’s most original and independent filmmakers. In this book, Lloyd Michaels analyzes each of Malick’s four features in depth, emphasizing both repetitive formal techniques such as voiceover and long lens cinematography as well as recurrent themes drawn from the director’s academic training in modern philosophy and American literature. Michaels explores Malick’s synthesis of the romance of mythic American experience and the aesthetics of European art film. He performs close cinematic analysis of paradigmatic moments in Malick’s films: the billboard sequence in Badlands, the opening credits in Days of Heaven, the philosophical colloquies between Witt and Welsh in The Thin Red Line, and the epilogue in The New World. This richly detailed study also includes the only two published interviews with Malick, both in 1975 following the release of his first feature film.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They're out there, you know--those bipedal hominids commonly called Sasquatch. This imaginative, tightly woven tale explains just how those creatures came to be traipsing around in the big trees surrounding Mount St. Helens. While local oddballs and elbow-benders talk Bigfoot and relate their peculiar yarns at Hee-Haw's Tavern, Jake Holly and Jessica O'Reilly are falling in love despite an age difference that Jessica's powerful father cannot abide. When Sasquatch enters the picture, a tripwire is broken and every preconceived notion is instantly turned upside down. Utilizing intricate details and language that's often dressed up in literary lipstick, Jeffery Viles weaves a fast-moving story of events that consume the town of Aurora, and reverberate into the White House and around the world.
