Download or read book A Profile of the Farm Machinery Industry written by Dawn M. Drake and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2013-12-28 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The farm machinery industry, though dominated by three large companies, is a complex sector of the global manufacturing economy that encompasses many smaller manufacturers as well. While contributing a small percentage to gross world product, it is vitally important to another key sector of the economy agriculture. Consequently, the recent rise in global crop prices has allowed the industry to be more resilient than other mature manufacturing sectors, like automobiles. The proposed book will provide a concise but comprehensive look at the farm machinery industry: its history, organization, competitors, and the challenges and opportunities the industry faces as a result of regulations, globalization and outside market forces. This will be done as a means of understanding a crucial building block to the success of agriculture's ability to feed the expanding world population.

Download or read book Manufacturing written by David O. Whitten and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1990-09-27 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overall, this first volume in the series should render business research in manufacturing a good deal easier by bringing together insightful industry histories and detailed critical bibliographies. This series has much to recommend it. Future volumes will be eagerly awaited. Reference Books Bulletin This historical and bibliographical reference work is the first volume of Greenwood Press's Handbook of American Business History, a series intended to supplement current bibliographic materials pertaining to business history. Devoted to manufacturing, this work uses the Enterprise Standard Industrial Classification (ESIC) to divide the subject into distinct segments, from which contributors have developed histories and bibliographies of the different types of manufacturing. Though authors were given sets of guidelines to follow, they were also allowed the flexibility to work in a format that best suited the material. Each contribution in this volume contains three important elements: a concise history of the manufacturing sector, a bibliographic essay, and a bibliography. Some contributions appear in three distinct parts, while others are combined into one or two segments; all build on currently available material for students and scholars doing research on business and industry. The contributors, who include business, economic, and social historians, as well as engineers and lawyers, have covered such topics as bakery products, industrial chemicals and synthetics, engines and turbines, and household appliances. Also included are an introductory essay that covers general works and a comprehensive index. This book should be a useful tool for courses in business and industry, and a valuable resource for college, university, and public libraries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Argentine and Canadian wheat economies, starting from very similar positions in the late nineteenth century, had diverged startlingly by 1930. In wheat production and export Argentina had stagnated and declined, while Canada had surged to a position of world leadership. This book explains how Canada had outpaced Argentina, a country with better growing conditions and a much shorter haul to port. The author finds the explanation in how differing government policies affected the paths the Canadian and Argentine wheat economies took. The author's investigations center on several key questions: In what ways did Canadian and Argentine policy makers and wheat growers attempt to improve their competitive positions by introducing efficient marketing systems, research, and agricultural education? How responsive were the two political systems to questions of land tenure, the role of immigrants, and political representation in the wheat regions? In sum, how did quite different views on the role of the state affect the outcome? The book is in three parts. The first provides a basic political and economic overview of Argentine and Canadian history between 1880 and 1930. The second part analyzes and compares the two countries' basic agricultural development policies. In the third part the focus moves away from a topical emphasis and shifts to an analysis of major agricultural policy issues in the two countries. The concluding chapter presents some final thoughts on the different paths of agrarian development in the two countries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2005. The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to and interpretation of the development of the Canadian economy since European settlement. The main contrast between the book’s view and previous interpretations of Canada’s economic past is that, instead of emphasizing the continuity of Canadian economic development (with staple exports playing the leading role), the focus is on the transition from the sparsely populated colonial economy of the early nineteenth century to the modern economy ranking among the seven largest market economies whose leaders now meet for economic summits.
