Book Synopsis Calibration and Lag of a Friez Type Cup Anemometer by : Robert M. Pinkerton
Download or read book Calibration and Lag of a Friez Type Cup Anemometer written by Robert M. Pinkerton and published by . This book was released on 1930 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests on a Friez type cup anemometer have been made to calibrate the instrument and determine its suitability for velocity measurements of wind gusts. The instrument was calibrated against a Pitot-static tube placed directed above the anemometer at air densities corresponding to sea level, and to an altitudeof approximately 6000 feet. Air-speed acceleration tests were made to determine the lag in the instrument reading. The calibration results indicate that there should be an altitude correction. It is concluded that the cup anemometer is too sluggish for velocity measurements of wind gusts.

Download or read book Wind Tunnel and Laboratory Calibration of Balloon-borne Wind Sensors written by J. H. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-low speed wind sensors have been calibrated for measuring the wind speed at an instrument suspended below stratospheric balloons. The low Reynolds number environment was duplicated at the NASA/Ames low-speed MARSWIT wind-tunnel facility, and in a laboratory bell jar. The two new instruments are the time-of-flight instrument that measures the motion of an ion cloud through an open pipe, and the corona anemometer that measures the displacement of an ion beam transversing the air-stream flowing between two plates. The calibrations consist of placing the instruments in a flow stream, and relating the instrument output to the flow-stream velocity. The laboratory calibration is easy to conduct, but is limited to a measurement of internal flow velocity. The wind-tunnel calibration is performed to relate laboratory calibration to freestream conditions. (Author).

Download or read book Fundamentals of Hot Wire Anemometry written by Charles G. Lomas and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-09 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1985 book provides a summary of the theory and practice of the hot wire anemometer, an instrument used to measure the speed of fluid flow. Many techniques and uses of this instrument are discussed in detail. The author considers such topics as probe fouling, probe design, and circuit design, as well as the thermodynamics of heated wires and thin films. He also discusses measurements of turbulence, shear flows, vorticity, temperature, combined temperature and velocity, two-phase flows, and compressible flows for measurements in air, water, mercury, blood, glycerine, oil, luminous gases, and polymer solutions. The book concludes with a section on the pulsed wire anemometer and other wake-sensing anemometers. This book assumes a familiarity with basic fluid mechanics. However, mathematical descriptions occur near the end of each chapter thus allowing those with a limited mathematical background to make use of the practical details at the beginning of each chapter.
Book Synopsis Calibration and Comparison of Cobra Probe and Hot Wire Anemometer for Flow Measurements in Turbomachinery by : John H. Perry
Download or read book Calibration and Comparison of Cobra Probe and Hot Wire Anemometer for Flow Measurements in Turbomachinery written by John H. Perry and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alternative methods of measuring mean airflow properties within a turbomachine are considered. A three-tube impact pressure probe (Cobra tube) has been calibrated to relate functions of the three tube impact pressures, total pressure and velocity to the angle at which the instrument is yawed to the calibration stream direction for angles between + 60 deg. This permits the flow properties of total pressure, velocity and yaw angle to be established from probe readings obtained by traversing a flow annulus with a tube aligned with the tunnel axis. Curve fitting functions have been developed to enable the calibration relations to be applied to computer orientated data reduction programs. Similarly, calibration functions relating flow direction to velocity and wire angle of a hot wire anemometer probe in terms of bridge voltage, have been assessed. Reynolds number influences are shown to be small for the Cobra tube and negligible for the hot wire anemometer. The two measurement systems have been compared by using the two instruments independently, to measure properties of flow and angle upstream and downstream of a single stage axial flow rotor/ stator research fan. Good agreement was obtained.
