Download or read book Bugatti Veyron written by Martin Roach and published by Preface Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bugatti Veyron's statistics are mind-boggling: 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds; a top speed of 253 mph; tyres that cost £20,000 a set and an engine with 10 radiators and four turbos; a launch control system taken from F1; and even windscreen wipers that create sizeable downforce—all delivered complete with a high-end stereo system, luxurious leather seats, and air-conditioning. It was a feat of engineering grandiosity that, in automotive terms, rivals the achievements of the great 19th Century industrialists. Here Martin Roach sets out to track down the mythical beast that is a Bugatti Veyron—and ultimately attempts to drive one. He traces the genesis of this remarkable machine through Bugatti's long and glorious early days and then through its more turbulent modern era. Traveling to the top secret Bugatti Research & Development workshop in Germany; touring the factory and chateau in France where these stunning cars are hand-built; interviewing famous engineers, super-rich owners, and automotive presidents, as well as a host of other expert eye-witnesses to this unique car's many achievements; Roach ponders this mechanical whirlwind and in so doing has written a pageturning study of a modern masterpiece. Bugatti Veyron: A Quest for Perfection discovers and unravels the enigma that is this remarkable car. For the first time, Bugatti has allowed access to the Veyron's chief engineer, designers, test drivers, archivists, the Bugatti factory, photographers, and the president of Bugatti himself.

Download or read book Early One Morning written by Robert Ryan and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “damn near irresistible” novel of friendship, fast cars, and spying for the Resistance in occupied France—based on a true story (Time Out London). On a crisp autumn night in the twenty-first century, a car is pulled from the depths of an Austrian lake. A skeleton grips the wheel. Finally, an answer: William Grover-Williams, the premier English race-car driver of his generation and a hero of the French Resistance, met his end at the bottom of a mountain lake. Or did he? In the Roaring Twenties, Grover-Williams and Frenchman Robert Benoist were teammates and rivals on the Bugatti racing team. Locked in a fierce competition for the world championship, they also raced to win the heart of the gorgeous Eve Aubicq. Then the war changed everything—and nothing. As members of the British Special Operations Executive, Grover-Williams and Benoist dashed across France in support of the Resistance, but it wasn’t just the Nazis they had to watch out for. Double agents were everywhere, and friendship—or love, for that matter—was no guarantee of loyalty. Every morning, Will, Robert, and Eve had to look in the mirror and ask: Whom can I trust today? The wrong answer might just have spelled their doom. Early One Morning is the 1st book in the Secret War Trilogy, which also includes Blue Noon and Night Crossing.
Book Synopsis Discovering Lost Automobiles and their Stories by : Michael Ware
Download or read book Discovering Lost Automobiles and their Stories written by Michael Ware and published by Pen and Sword Transport. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many enthusiasts dream of finding a Bugatti or a Bentley in a barn or a long disused building. In reality, such finds are more likely to be an Austin 7, Ford Popular or a Mini. This book is stuffed with these so called “barn finds”. The author has tried to find out the background to the abandonment and the previous history of the “as found” car when it was in regular use. Why was it put away and apparently forgotten? Many of the stories have appeared in his “Lost and Found” column in “Classic and Sports Car” magazine, but a book gives a chance for the expanded story to be told. The cars featured date from 1900 through till the 1980’s, most come from Great Britain and Europe but there are plenty from Australasia and USA. There are well over 200 different cars plus collections featured. Each story has at least one illustration to go with it. Some of the locations are bizarre, a Daimler buried under a rockery, a Porsche sunk in Lake Lucerne, a Rolls -Royce on the roof of a high rise building in Karachi, or a Morris 8 special in a Gloucestershire pond. There is a chapter on collections of cars, put together by seemingly eccentric owners who never got around to restoring them before their death. The author is not critical of any of these owners and is grateful for the number of cars they have saved from almost certain destruction.
