Book excerpt: “Marvelous . . . [Vonnegut] wheels out all the complaints about America and makes them seem fresh, funny, outrageous, hateful and lovable.”—The New York Times In Breakfast of Champions, one of Kurt Vonnegut’s most beloved characters, the aging writer Kilgore Trout, finds to his horror that a Midwest car dealer is taking his fiction as truth. What follows is murderously funny satire, as Vonnegut looks at war, sex, racism, success, politics, and pollution in America and reminds us how to see the truth. “Free-wheeling, wild and great . . . uniquely Vonnegut.”—Publishers Weekly

Book excerpt: Why do you need this book? Because there are treasures in tradition. In stark contrast to the common belief that youth workers require nothing less than a light show, smoke machine, and sweaty punk-rock band to reach teenagers' souls, more and more youth have actually been moving toward depth and quiet--and away from fluff and noise. Creeds, candles, silence, and ancient spiritual practices are all gaining understanding and popularity among students who're passionately seeking otherworldly and mysterious fragrances. They're realizing that there are treasures in tradition. The Book of Uncommon Prayer is your tool for unearthing, dusting off, and tapping into these treasures--but in ways that are completely contemporary and, more importantly, completely relevant to students. It's personal. The prayers and worship services inside are written for youth ministry--for students and for youth workers! They tell the from-the-gut truth about what you and your kids face every day--and in language that won't leave anybody scratching their heads. It's practical. These tools are for just about any situation you can think of. Need a prayer for a lock-in? For family? For loving enemies? For final exams? How about a mind-blowing "Dumpster" Christmas service? An eye-opening service for All Hallows Eve? Or the most intense service for Good Friday you've ever experienced? They're all here--along with many other innovative vehicles for bringing your students into communion with God. It's unparalleled. This book is for all denominations. It doesn't matter if you’re mainline or evangelical, Protestant or Catholic; The Book of Uncommon Prayer is geared for all teenagers and youth workers in Jesus' church! There's also an entire section of devotions and prayers written specifically for you, the youth worker, to renew and strengthen you when times are tough. Mysterious. Practical. Treasure-filled. (Yes, uncommon, too!) The Book of Uncommon Prayer is a rich source of God-revealing worship and a one-of-a-kind guide for personal renewal that youth workers, camp counselors, Sunday school teachers, adult volunteers (and even students) will love.

Book excerpt: This book describes How to Organize A Day of Giving in your community or a community in need. It also describes why we need A Day of Giving, with statistics on Hunger in America, Homelessness, the New Poor, Number of Homeless shelters, and Unemployment rates. Why A Day of Giving is the answer by describing what it is and how it works. This book gives the history of the event and it success. It shows that anyone with a HEART can do it. Christines testimony on how God supernaturally used her through a willing vessel. It describes the Masters plan with the meaning behind it. It gives the step by step process for planning, organizing, recruiting volunteers, and securing sponsors. This book offers conclusions, encouragements and acknowledgements along with forms and sample sponsorship letters with pictures and commendations for present and previous works. These are good reasons to get involve by organizing A Day of Giving in your community or a community in need. Hunger in American: Hunger in America is out of control when people have to line up to get food from food pantries, church pantries and/or homeless shelters. There was a report on the new hunger in America since the recession from Web history. It listed 12% of California households struggle with hunger between 2006 and 2008, but likely higher to this date. Hunger in America stated that in Illinois rising demands on food banks, especially in Cook County has these types of customers: middle class and suddenly out of work in the midst of the recession. According to Feeding America, the National Hunger-Relief Network did a study on the fact that Cook County is not the only county struggling and to be fair the demand has increase 65% in DuPage County, where it was not considered a major problem to go hunger until the recession hit hard. It was the feelings of shame and embarrassment among the newly poor that brought these people to another countys food pantry in order not to be recognized in their own countys food pantry. If they did not go, they do not eat. Detroit, MI has the highest unemployment in the nation, so they struggle with hunger and housing. New York has the largest increase in demand for food assistance since 1991; this is not just about California, Illinois, Michigan or New York because people are hunger all over the USA and world, especially kids. This breaks my HEART to see or hear of kids or anybody hunger from the lack of food. This is why part of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to each states food depositories so they can supply food to food pantries and homeless shelters, etc. I need everyone to buy this book to lend a helping hand to others in need. Part of the proceeds from sale of this book will help Haiti for a month. Thanks and God bless! Personally speaking, this is not a black or white problem because it affects all people, which makes this a sad story when so many people are hunger. HELP! Homelessness in USA: Homelessness statistics cover areas related to the homeless and hunger and include numbers of the highest rate of increase since the recession of 1991. The largest and fastest growing homeless are families. Because there are so many homeless people, they have setup new tent cities and other large homeless encampments to keep up with the demands. This is by National Alliance to end Homelessness. Tents cities highlights are the new realities as recession wears on after foreclosures force families from their homes, March 26, 2009. Economy Bytes reported on May 18, 2010, the National Alliance presents the state of doubled-up families. The brief examines the implications of the increase in doubled-up families and reflects on how the situation speaks to the recessions impact of homelessness. The New Poor in USA since the Recession: Call them the new poor because these people long accus

It was relieving and healing, subtler than the feeling from getting off on drugs, but it was detectable and lovely, and of course, there was no hangover, just a feeling of more ease than I could remember. I felt a warmth come over me similar to what I felt when I had done heroin, but far from the darkness of that insanity, this was pure light-a way through." - Tommy Rosen, on his first yoga experience Most of us deal with addiction in some form. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The movie The Passion of The Christ dramatically conveyed the price that Jesus paid on the cross to redeem the sins of the world. John Webb Kline's new book, I Could Use a Miracle Right Now, profoundly brings the message of the cross and what it means to us in the 21st century into perspective in a way that few books can. It is a story about one man's life-long encounter with the Living Christ--a story that one might call, The Passion of the Christian. It is a must-read for any true seeker of truth or follower of Christ. Author John Webb Kline describes his inspiring new book as a Workingman's Theology-a theology that helps us to find God in the midst of our everyday struggles and which helps us to make sense out of the seemingly senseless trials and tribulations we all face. Based on stories from his own, often tumultuous, yet miracle-filled life, Webb brings us to the amazing discovery that, not only is God's intervention for our lives real, but it is also there for each and everyone of us-hidden only by our rational worldviews and unbelief. This is a book about hanging on to faith when it would seem perfectly reasonable not to; a book for the faithless and faithful alike; it is a book for those who are feeling so hurt, so angry, or so left out of God's will that they have nothing left but the desire to curse God and die. In today's world, it very well could be your own handbook for survival. Heart to Hand Ministries director, Woody Wolfe has this to say about I Could Use a Miracle Right Now: "Webb is able to take us on that journey to see the true miracles that are the reality of our everyday lives even when the world had blurred our vision. Webb's uncanny ability to put into words, that which is at the heart of the true Gospel message, has been such a blessing to me. I wish this book would have been around during those first days of my full-time ministry when I was still looking to the world for affirmation. To truly understand that God is already knocked out about us, gives us the freedom to be just who we are and Webb has brought that vision of the uncompromising love of God to these pages." With tears flooding my eyes, I mumbled, 'I am so sorry...I thought you were Sasquatch...Please forgive me.' He took a deep breath. 'I believe that before I was conceived, God knew today would be the day I died. I forgive you. I know I have only a few minutes left, so please listen closely. No one is aware of my existence, and I want it to stay that way.' While deer hunting near his home in Mississippi, Dale shoots what he thinks is the legendary Sasquatch. When he goes to retrieve his kill, he is surprised to find a man, instead, with forgiveness and a set of instructions-bury him in the Hinton Graveyard and deliver his bag, unopened, to a certain oak tree across the river. While carrying out Sasquatch's final requests and attempting to clear his conscience, Dale is amazed to learn secrets about Sasquatch's family-as well as his own. Based in part on family stories told by his father, Dale Keith Moore weaves local folklore and history into an exciting and whimsical story that draws readers in.
