Book Synopsis Echoes of Ancient Indian Wisdom by : Shantha N. Nair
Download or read book Echoes of Ancient Indian Wisdom written by Shantha N. Nair and published by Pustak Mahal. This book was released on 2008 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The echoes of ancient Indian wisdom can be heard from the oldest of scriptures that existed many years ago. Even thousands of years before they were written down on palm leaves, the teachings were passed on from generations to generations, from the teachers to the disciples in their oral form. These works are amongst the oldest of humanity. They laid the foundation of one of the most tolerant and diverse religions in the world, the Sanatan Dharma or Hinduism, which is marked by a wide range of ethos and philosophical approaches. Covering the vastness and immensity of the ancient Indian scriptures is akin to capturing a gigantic ocean in a small pitcher. Thus, in this book, the author has tried to catch a few 'echoes' resonating with age-old wisdom and has presented them to the readers. the book unravels the knowledge hidden inside the Samhitas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas and Upanishads of the Shruti that form the Vedas, and in the Smriti like Agamas, Dharma Shastras and so on. In short, it provides a glimpse, or rather a macro view of the ancient treasure of India.

Book Synopsis Translating Wisdom by : Shankar Nair

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A free open access ebook is available upon publication. Learn more at www.luminosoa.org. During the height of Muslim power in Mughal South Asia, Hindu and Muslim scholars worked collaboratively to translate a large body of Hindu Sanskrit texts into the Persian language. Translating Wisdom reconstructs the intellectual processes and exchanges that underlay these translations. Using as a case study the 1597 Persian rendition of the Yoga-Vasistha—an influential Sanskrit philosophical tale whose popularity stretched across the subcontinent—Shankar Nair illustrates how these early modern Muslim and Hindu scholars drew upon their respective religious, philosophical, and literary traditions to forge a common vocabulary through which to understand one another. These scholars thus achieved, Nair argues, a nuanced cultural exchange and interreligious and cross-philosophical dialogue significant not only to South Asia’s past but also its present.

Book Synopsis The Customs of the Brahmans by : St. Ambrose of Milan
Download or read book The Customs of the Brahmans written by St. Ambrose of Milan and published by Dalcassian Press. This book was released on 2016-10-15 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work by St. Ambrose is one of the first texts in the West to attempt to give insight into India's priestly class. The processing narrative presents a detailed account of the Brahmans, a group known for their ascetic lifestyle, as recounted by a traveler who sought to learn from them. It highlights their customs, beliefs, and interactions with Alexander the Great, who, despite his conquests, is portrayed as lacking the true wisdom the Brahmans embody. Through dialogues with Dandamis, a Brahman sage, the text critiques the pursuit of wealth and power, advocating for a life of simplicity, spirituality, and harmony with nature. The Brahmans' philosophy underscores the importance of inner peace over external achievements.
