These garments, gayly ornamented with shells and colored stones, made very useful and picturesque clothing. Book Synopsis The Wild Man of the West by : R. M. Ballantyne
Download or read book The Wild Man of the West written by R. M. Ballantyne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wild Man of the West: A Tale of the Rocky Mountains is a novel written by Robert Michael Ballantyne. Ballantyne, a Scotsman, was a prolific writer of juvenile fiction during the nineteenth century. He authored more than one hundred books. The Wild Man of the West is the story of March Marson, an experienced teenaged backwoodsman, and his friend Bob Bounce. The two teenagers plan an adventure and escape to the West, where they explore the Rocky Mountains on foot, using their wits and survival skills as needed. The boys encounter terrific wildlife as well as the local indigenous peoples. They also come face to face with the title character, a "Wild Man" of local lore. What they learn about this "Wild Man" surprises them. Ballantyne was a writer of fiction aimed at teenagers, and this work is no different. It is a great adventure story that will appeal to young minds, and has two teenagers as its central characters. It is a coming of age story, with Ballantyne sprinkling in doses of wisdom alongside the action. The story moves quickly, and while character development isn't neglected, this is a book that is forwarded more by action than by dialogue. The Wild Man of the West: A Tale of the Rocky Mountains is typical of Ballantyne's work. It is a well-paced adventure that will primarily appeal to teenaged readers. Individuals looking for a classic tale of Western exploration would be wise to consider this novel. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Redskin and Cow-Boy by : G. A. Henty
Download or read book Redskin and Cow-Boy written by G. A. Henty and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Redskin and Cow-Boy: A Tale of the Western Plains There are but few words of preface needed to a story that is not historical. The principal part of the tale is laid among the cow-boys of the Western States of America, a body of men unrivalled in point of hardihood and devotion to work, as well as in reckless courage and wild daring. Texas, which twenty-five years ago was the great ranching state, is no longer the home of the typical cow-boy, but he still exists and flour ishes in New Mexico and the northern States and Territories. The picture I have given of their life can be relied upon, and its adventures and dangers are in no degree coloured, as I have taken them from the lips of a near relative of my own who was for some years working as a cow-boy in New Mexico. He was an actor in many of the scenes described, and so far from my having heightened or embellished them, I may say that I have given but a small proportion of the perilous adventures through which he went, for had I given them in full it would, I am sure, have seemed to you that the story was too improbable to be true. In treating of cow-boy life, indeed, it may well be said that truth is stranger than fiction. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Boy's Book of Pioneers The great west and north-west of north america has always had a fascination for people; it would seem to be the happy hunting ground of our dreams - the place where a man may live in touch with wild nature, and feel the lash of the wind, the keen smack of the icy air - where real, hard, virile life is to be found and lived. Who of us has not revelled in the stories of the old-time pioneers of the west? Well, here is the story of one of those men - the first white man to venture across into the great unknown. The early history of pierre radisson, the french-canadian who opened up the west, may be summed up as follows: when but just oyer sixteen years of age, he left the fort at three rivers, on the north bank of the st. Lawrence, on a hunting jaunt with a couple of young friends, and was captured by iroquois and carried inland to the mohawk country. He was adopted into the tribe of mohawks, and became a good hunter whilst dwelling amongst them. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
