This book was released on 2021-05-05 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every community, tribe, and sub-community in India has its own ghosts. For centuries, the spirit world has captured the imagination of Indians. Some are believed to live near waterbodies and sneak up on passers-by; others roam around fields on summer afternoons, seduce lost men, and, in some cases, protect you from evil. From the north Indian chudails, who are said to prowl neighbourhoods in search of their victims, and the mechho bhoots from West Bengal that love fish, to the fearsome ghosts from Tamil Nadu called muni pei-the Indian ghost family is enormous, with no official headcount. Who are these shadowy creatures that haunt dense forests? What are the mysteries hidden beneath the surface of deep, calm waters? And how are we to understand these restless spirits who have permeated our memories, psyches, imaginations, and literatures? Riksundar Banerjee, an authority on Indian ghosts, investigates stories of creatures from the spirit world from all over India, in an effort to unravel the truth behind the legends, beliefs, superstitions, and experiences all of us are aware of. The result is The Book of Indian Ghosts-an authoritative, deeply researched, and spooky account of the otherworldly beings that haunt India and Indians. The Book of Indian Ghosts is the first of its kind to present a deeply researched account of the supernatural entities that have captured the Indian imagination. Spooky as well as informative, the collection features lesser-known legends, myths and folklore about spirits and ghosts from remote parts of the country. Riksundar Banerjee is an authority on Indian ghosts. He has investigated stories of the spirit world from across the country.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although spectral Indians appear with startling frequency in US literary works, until now the implications of describing them as ghosts have not been thoroughly investigated. In the first years of nationhood, Philip Freneau and Sarah Wentworth Morton peopled their works with Indian phantoms, as did Charles Brocken Brown, Washington Irving, Samuel Woodworth, Lydia Maria Child, James Fenimore Cooper, William Apess, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and others who followed. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Native American ghosts figured prominently in speeches attributed to Chief Seattle, Black Elk, and Kicking Bear. Today, Stephen King and Leslie Marmon Silko plot best-selling novels around ghostly Indians and haunted Indian burial grounds. RenŽe L. Bergland argues that representing Indians as ghosts internalizes them as ghostly figures within the white imagination. Spectralization allows white Americans to construct a concept of American nationhood haunted by Native Americans, in which Indians become sharers in an idealized national imagination. However, the problems of spectralization are clear, since the discourse questions the very nationalism it constructs. Indians who are transformed into ghosts cannot be buried or evaded, and the specter of their forced disappearance haunts the American imagination. Indian ghosts personify national guilt and horror, as well as national pride and pleasure. Bergland tells the story of a terrifying and triumphant American aesthetic that repeatedly transforms horror into glory, national dishonor into national pride.

Vintage storyteller Ruskin Bond has created some unforgettable characters in his novels and stories, but perhaps the most memorable and unusual among them are the ghosts and spirits he has encountered. These ghosts are not always horrific; they are mysterious and often benevolent, or lonely creatures looking for company among humans. Collected in these pages are new stories written specifically for this volume--including Captain Young's Ghost--and classics such as A Face in the Dark and The Haunted Bicycle. Here you will find the spirit of a captain from the British army who returns to the town he founded and rues the lack of Irish whisky; a little boy, long dead, who continues to guide passers-by on treacherous mountain routes; a heartbroken young girl of long ago who seduces young men with her song, and another who longs for a family and some friends. Set in the hills and foothills of North India--the perfect haunt for ghosts and spirits--this collection by the master storyteller will leave you spellbound.

This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Native American history is filled with stories about animals, creation of the Earth and man, life lessons and of course ghosts... Ghosts, spirits, and the “walking dead” were often known to pay visits to their family and those left behind. Many of these stories revolved around lost loves and attempts to reclaim the person taken from them. Other stories spun tales of revenge and payback for those who wronged them. In any case death was looked at as a doorway to the afterlife and not to be feared. In this book, you will be given many opportunities to relive the past cultures of many tribes and their beliefs in ghosts, spirits and the afterlife. You will be presented with stories of individuals who transcended the plane of death to interact with the living and other spirits who have remained earthbound and troubled who have to work through a life lesson to successfully move on. As is traditional, these stories are here for you to share and pass on to the next generation. Included in this collection are the stories: Ghost of the White Deer, The Story of a Poor Man, The Resuscitation of the only Daughter, The Spirit Bride, Heavy Collar and the Ghost Woman, Bluejay finds a Wife, Two Ghostly Lovers, Origin of the Medicine Man, The Medicine Grizzly Bear, A Little Brave and the Medicine Woman, The Man Who Was Afraid of Nothing, The Ghosts' Buffalo, The Land of the Dead, Blue Jay Visits Ghost Town, The Spirit Land, The Skin Shifting Old Woman, and many, more.
